====================================================================== IBIS EDITORIAL TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/Editorial_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-editorial@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-editorial/ ====================================================================== Attendees from March 17 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki*, Ming Yan Mentor Graphics Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield, Randy Wolff* Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Bob Ross had a comment on the March 3 minutes. He noted that he mentioned that inductance_matrix and related terms had been removed from the specification as sub-parameters. He meant instead to refer to banded_matrix and related terms. Walter Katz moved to approve the minutes. Arpad Muranyi seconded. Michael reviewed the AR list, with four items. Only two remain in progress; the other two have been completed: 1) Mike LaBonte and Bob have been reviewing issues related to figures intended for IBIS 6.2. They have concluded the figures should be in a separate BIRD. Updates have been sent out for two figures, and an additional (third) figure is ready. Mike has a separate draft for BIRD181.1 2) Mike has been working on an updated list of issues for resolution in 6.2 and 7.0, using the "IBIS 6.2 Resolutions" presentation with list of items decided in prior meetings, plus unresolved issues. Mike will continue work here, and send out the latest document. Walter noted that another BIRD, BIRD181.1 - I-V Table Clarifications, needs to be on the bin list for discussion. Bob noted that a rewrite is required of that BIRD, for consistency. Bob also noted that he has a separate presentation that he would also like added to the bin list. Mike reviewed three figures he generated in preparation for IBIS 6.2. Figure 1 was updated based on comments from Bob to simplify connecting lines. Mike also had received feedback from Randy Wolff regarding the use of +/- as a standard symbol for DC voltage supplies. Michael asked regarding Figure 2 about reversing Vref terminal polarity on one output; Radek Biernacki and Arpad disagreed. Bob suggested that different Vrefs could be used in this case. Walter asked how different Vref sources would be collected, in terms of syntax. Bob noted that this differs between pseudo- and true-differential buffers. Mike noted that the figures lack context due to the surrounding text not being included in the presentation. ARs: Mike will adjust surrounding text, separately from BIRD181.1 work. Mike showed a new figure, Figure 7, which adds an explicit definition of Vcc. Walter suggested simplifying the drawing to remove [Power Clamp Reference] and [Voltage Range]; the latter is assumed if [Pullup Reference] is missing. Arpad suggested adding connection dots to the figures as appropriate. Arpad and Radek both suggested that the full text regarding [Voltage Range] as an alternative stay part of the figure. Bob stated that he was concerned about node names and bracketed words being applied together; names and nodes are separate concepts. Radek added that a BIRD may be needed to define node names in the IBIS conceptual structure. Michael asked whether Figure 7 may need to change in light of BIRD181.1 changes. Mike noted that he will proceed with a new BIRD in parallel with 181. Walter added that the new BIRD will be dependent on 181. Bob stated that several other issues still exist, including a missing Vtable reference in the old Figure 7. If Vcc is 0 V and Pulldown_Ref is -5 V, then Vtable range ends up -Vcc to Vcc, which is wrong. Mike suggested that the new BIRD would contain corrected text plus Bob's suggested improvements. Further discussion on the topic was deferred. Regarding BIRD181.1, there was some team confusion about whether BIRD 181.1 was voted upon and posted. AR Mike to check on submission date, currently listed as Oct. 2016. Mike showed the document, and noted that Table 16 is replaced and new, matching equations are used. "Ref" and "Supply" as suffixes are used in the new equations. Bob noted that supply_ref etc. is not defined. Radek observed that the original table used -Vcc to 2*Vcc ranges. Bob further stated that the new table is not compatible with the rest of BIRD 181, which defines a pulldown_ref. Michael suggested the team use drawings here, as span, node and voltage values are confused in the documentation. Bob replied that the span is between the references per BIRD181, as GND doesn't mean anything anymore. Michael noted that curve-tracing examples have been supplied showing reference options in the past as part of IBIS training. This may clarify some referencing questions. Radek asked that the node names be described very clearly; Bob suggested that the "Usage Rules" section defines nodes. Voltages are therefore defined incorrectly in BIRD181. Bob and Radek both advised caution using "Vcc". Bob added that Series MOSFET text placement is incorrect as it has not yet been defined by that point sequentially in the document. Mike noted that, as a result, Series MOSFET and Series Current may also need examination. Next time: full review of change list for BIRD6.2 vs. 7.0. In addition, discussions are pending on BIRD181 and Bob's presentation. Bob moved to adjourn. Mike seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned without objection. ARs: Michael to send curve-tracing measurement drawings as examples Mike & Bob to work together to resolve language in BIRD181 and referencing text Walter to send out his own proposals for new language on referencing - DONE Mike to adjust text surrounding new IBIS 6.2 figures, separately from BIRD181.1 work Mike to check on submission date for BIRD181 vs. BIRD 181.1 (currently listed as Oct. 2016)
