====================================================================== IBIS EDITORIAL TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/Editorial_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-editorial@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-editorial/ ====================================================================== Attendees from May 26 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki, Ming Yan Mentor, a Siemens Company Arpad Muranyi Micron Technology Justin Butterfield, Randy Wolff* Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Randy Wolff moved to approve the May 19 minutes; Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were approved with no objections. Previous ARs: Bob Ross to update "file" and "file name" in a BIRD186.3 draft. This was done. Opens: Bob Ross asked when the next meeting would be held, noting that chair Michael Mirmak has conflicts in the Friday time slot. Bob suggested Wednesdays. Randy Wolff noted that that would allow us to meet every week. AR: Mike LaBonte to pursue scheduling editorial meetings for Wednesdays. BIRD 186.3 draft 8: Bob Ross show draft 8c of BIRD 186.3. Mike LaBonte noted that it had "8b" inside. Mike showed a comparison of draft 7 to 8 changes, excluding formatting changes. Bob reviewed the changes made in draft 8: - The changed parts are in red text. - uppercase characters added to the legal file name set. - Period added to the legal file name set. - In item 10, a "120" in an original text portion had been changed to "1024", now restored. Mike asked if we should not repeat line length limits, have it in only one place. Bob said we repeat the values for readability, but we could simply refer to the initial limit definition instead. Mike said the line length limit was for .ibs files, but he was not sure if it applied to .ebd or .pkg files. He noted that there is no line length limit for .ami files, and was not sure about .iss files. Bob pointed out a place where ".ibs" had been changed to "IBIS file types". Randy suggested that each file extension should be spelled out, instead of using "IBIS file types". AR: Bob Ross to spell out the extensions of "IBIS file types" in BIRD 186.3. Bob said item 14 of section 3.2 gives the file extensions that require ASCII characters. Mike said it may be that some IBIS files use non-ASCII characters, and tools including ibischk might not care. Mike suggested that on page 11 "renumber" might be "change", noting that Radek Biernacki had noted that renumbering does not apply to characters. Mike said that in the [File Name] section the phrase "shall not include any path" seemed awkward. Bob suggested "cannot be a file reference". Mike felt the meaning of that was not clear. This issue was discussed without conclusion. Bob said he changed individual edit instructions to "before and after" cuts and pastes of complete sections, to specify "file" to "file reference" changes. Mike noted that the "from" section had some text in red. Bob said that that highlighted what was about to be changed. He pointed out that in the "to" section it now had "file reference". For example it had "points to the referenced file relative to the .ibs file". Mike said the references were actually relative to the directory containing the .ibs file. AR: Bob Ross to explain "file reference" as directory relative in BIRD 186.3 draft. Bob noted that some lines that are to be deleted were in red strikeout. Mike suggested we might have a future discussion about conventions on editing markup styles. Bob said we always stated what needs to change and then the change, and that common sense should apply. Bob noted that column heading changes had been adjusted to retain alignment. Mike said that in a specified change to page 140 of IBIS 6.1, the reference to section 3 had been changed to "the [File Name] keyword". Randy had found 8 typographical errors in the BIRD draft, as well as "and a the tree root" which was an error found is in the original IBIS 6.1. He said the "a" should be dropped. Mike asked if the BIRD would catch all such errors found in the spec. Mike checked IBIS 6.1 and found that it did catch all of them. Mike said that in the [Reference Designator Map] changes, "name" was in red where it did not need to be red. Also "it" is was highlighted in one place that needed to change, but the change was not there. Mike felt that the changes made to the DLL_ID section looked good. Mike LaBonte moved to adjourn. Bob Ross seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned without objection.
