(attaching a text version of the minutes for ease of archiving) ====================================================================== IBIS EDITORIAL TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/editorial_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-editorial@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-editorial/ ====================================================================== Attendees from June 17 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark* Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki* Mentor Graphics Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. Curtis Clark agreed to take the minutes. No patents were declared. Meeting minutes for the previous meeting on May 27th had not yet been made available for review. Known issues list for IBIS 6.1: Mike LaBonte reviewed a submission from Curtis Clark for some error corrections in the PAM4 parameters section. Page 232: Curtis suggested "sampled" should be "samples" in the following sentence: In summary, UI, bit_time and symbol_time are the same and correspond to the time between the waveform sampled at the receiver latch. Mike LaBonte agreed the original sentence needed fixing, but instead suggested "waveform" should be "waveform edges". In that case "sampled" could be retained and the final sentence would be: In summary, UI, bit_time and symbol_time are the same and correspond to the time between the waveform edges sampled at the receiver latch. The group agreed with the fix proposed by Mike. Page 235: Curtis noted that "not" should appear before the word "declared" in the following sentence: The PAM4_UpperThreshold, PAM4_CenterThreshold and PAM4_LowerThreshold parameters are ignored when the AMI Reserved Parameter Modulation is declared or set to "NRZ". The group agreed. In addition, Mike LaBonte and Radek Biernacki suggested that for clarity 'or set to "NRZ"' should be replaced with 'or is declared and set to "NRZ"'. The group agreed with this change, too. Curtis then noted that for consistency this second change should also be made in two other places: Page 234: The PAM4_Mapping parameter is ignored when the AMI Reserved Parameter Modulation is not declared or set to NRZ. Page 237: The PAM4_UpperEyeOffset, PAM4_CenterEyeOffset and PAM4_LowerEyeOffset parameters are ignored when the AMI Reserved Parameter Modulation is not declared or set to "NRZ". AR: Mike and Curtis took the AR to update the 6.1 Known Issues document with the changes agreed upon in the meeting. This has already been done, and the results can be found in item #6 of: http://ibis.org/ver6.1/ver6_1_known_issues.txt Review of Bob Ross' proposed modifications to the "Introductory Text for Referencing draft 1" first produced by Michael Mirmak. Note: During the discussion, the group produced a clean version (no markup) containing Bob's suggested wording for this document. This has been uploaded to the editorial task group page as draft #2. http://ibis.org/editorial_wip/ Bob noted that he had slightly modified the first paragraph, including adding the phrase "or derived from data sheet information." Mike suggested that he thought the last sentence in the first paragraph was not consistent with the paragraph and should be moved or removed (note: in draft 2 the sentence was moved to the end of paragraph 3, which is likely a temporary location). Bob noted that paragraphs 2 and 3 had been extensively modified, and that his goal was to remove the "negative" statements. Paragraph two had focused too much on "IBIS does not capture everything," and paragraph 3 had focused too much on "EDA tool simulation is not defined." Radek broadly agreed with paragraph 1, but noted that we should explicitly explain that the goal of IBIS to provide this data for the purpose of simulation. Radek noted that the data gathering used to create the IBIS file is limited to the DUT. He agreed with Bob and noted that paragraph two had been trying to say we have simulations that are not covered by the data. But he noted that this is always the case, for example an S-parameter file contains data at discrete frequencies, and a simulation may require data at intermediate frequencies. So he felt this "negative" point was not worth any emphasis. Radek also preferred to limit mention (or not mention at all) that EDA tools may not be 100% consistent. Again, he said this is entirely expected. Bob agreed with adding Radek's introductory statement of the purpose of the IBIS file (a container for data to be used in simulation). Mike noted that we have to be careful about what wording we add without making sure it's consistent with what is said elsewhere, or seeing if it is already said elsewhere. The group discussed where this Referencing Introduction might be placed in the IBIS document. There were questions about whether section 6 "Buffer Modeling" or Section 2 "Statement of Intent" would be best, but Bob and Radek pointed out that it applies to many things outside of a [Model], so Section 2 was a better choice. Radek proposed that this Referencing Introduction might be inserted in Section 2 after the fourth paragraph (prior to the paragraph that begins with "Version 6.1 of this electronic template..."). This led to a brief discussion about the term template, which Bob said dated from version 1.0 when the IBIS file really was a simple template for data. AR: Mike to post the draft 2 document (already done). AR: Radek agreed to draft an improved version of paragraph three of the posted draft 2. Editing will continue in the next meeting. Bob moved to adjourn. Radek seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned.
