====================================================================== IBIS EDITORIAL TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/editorial_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-editorial@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-editorial/ ====================================================================== Attendees from July 8 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark* Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor Graphics Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Walter Katz moved to approve the minutes of the June 24 meeting. Bob Ross seconded. No objections were raised and the minutes were approved. During Opens, Walter noted that he had sent out a list of suggested Vtable equations via the reflector (shown as alterations to p. 53). Michael asked Mike LaBonte to check whether this change is already part of the edits list; it is. Bob agreed with Walter on the change content. Arpad Muranyi asked what is meant by “source” term in the revised language. The specific wording will be discussed later. Mike noted that the new Pin Referencing BIRD addresses some of this. The team seems to have lost interest in definitions. Mike proposed reviewing the new I-V table text. Walter summarized his changes, which primarily are dedicated to describing the reference terminals correctly, *globally* (except for External Model). Vtable is the lookup into the voltage-controlled current source. It gets rid of Vcc-relative as a concept. Walter deferred to Bob for how ECL should be described. On ECL, Bob suggests replacing Vcc with Pulldown_ref; the other ECL rule is replace Pullup_ref with Pulldown_ref. Bob noted that ECL technology needs to be defined precisely in the specification. Bob noted that [Voltage Range] or [Pullup Reference] are mentioned; the same pair or option should be noted for [Pulldown Reference] in the new text. Michael suggested an alternative notation based on SPICE probing: V(node, node), where both nodes of the measurement are explicit. This avoids problems with implications of voltage “at” nodes and makes the values for the equations clear. Arpad agreed. Mike suggested that a terminal name be added. Randy will be showing some diagrams soon for multi-element C_comp where the terminal name for measurement is listed. Walter notes that ideal node zero is present in all three nodes in actual equations; this cancels, so the equations are correct. Michael agreed, and would prefer both notations appear at least once, with an explanation of the extra reference node. Arpad noted an inconsistency: V-t tables for the Pullup should have been measured from pad to Vcc-rail; instead, V-t tables are measured relative to pulldown, etc. rail. Walter proposed that Pullup_ref be used as language for both node and voltage. Arpad suggested that this might mix up voltage and node concepts for users. Walter agreed, and suggested that V(Pullup_ref) is the voltage at that terminal with respect to some other terminal. Just think of it as the node. A brief discussion on nodes vs. terminals was conducted. These are the same thing, as agreed by Walter and Arpad. Mike observed that the left side of equation is currently “Vtable” – the term “voltage” is being used explicitly. Voltages in the data tables are correct, per Walter; Mike notes that this column is called “Voltage”. Mike noted that he cannot post Draft 3 as only a draft 1 was ever distributed. Mike accepted an AR to send out the reference Pullup_ref document and Mike and Bob will edit it offline. Walter proposed that Draft 1 be reviewed offline, then that the team assess the comments during the meeting. This comment resolution approach is much more efficient when used by other groups. Randy Wolff moved to adjourn. Mike seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned.
