======================================================================= IBIS EDITORIAL TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/editorial_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-editorial@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ======================================================================= Attendees from August 15, 2018 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff SiSoft Walter Katz, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Minutes from the August 3 meeting had not yet been sent for review. Review of ARs: - Mike LaBonte to post IBIS 7.0 draft and checklist documents. - This was done. - Mike LaBonte to add Arpad's latest comment to 6.1 known issues. - This was done. - Arpad Muranyi to look into consistency of chapter headers and numbering. - This was done. Michael reviewed the agenda topics: - Review of Version 7.0 Plan/Proposal documents – Ross - Review of task list – LaBonte - Approval of new edits required to ver7_0_180727.docx - Selection of editor for next release Arpad Muranyi showed his AR document ChangeNumbering.pptx. Arpad noted that after the main chapter titles we have keywords, and they are not numbered. At section 6 we have 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, then an unnumbered introduction and keyword definition. The same happens after 6.4. We should number the headings that introduce each group of keywords. The chapter 8 intro should be numbered. Chapter 10 begins using sub-numbering rigorously. In 10.3 the sub-numbering stops. The Reserved_Parameters sections are then not numbered until 10.4. Modulation does not have sub-headers. Some irregularities may have been missed. Bob Ross said it was a good idea to adopt consistent numbering. It should be done after folding in the new BIRDs. We should distinguish between chapters and sections. Mike L. suggested using chapter.section.subsection terminology. Arpad saw no need to distinguish between sections and subsections. Bod said numbering has not been used to show association between sections. For example, the keywords that are part of [Model] are not numbered so that they are hierarchically under [Model]. Bob also said that we define what Reserved_Parameters are but we do not define what Model_Specific parameters are. Michael Mirmak noted that the lowest level is 5 deep. Bob said we need to be consistent about that. Mike L. suggested checking the references to sections to see what level of depth they reach. Michael M. said we may not have many such cross references, IBIS tends to refer to section titles and page numbers. Michael Mirmak asked if we should have only "chapter" and "section". Bob suggested having only "section". Arpad said "chapter" is used only twice in IBIS 6.1, and "section" is used many times. Mike L. agree with Bob. Arpad felt that a top level chapter should not be section. Michael M. noted we rarely use a noun, and the first page refers to top level "areas" as sections. Arpad agreed it would be easier to replace chapter with section. Mike L. liked the idea that numbering should show keyword hierarchy, saying that the actual hierarchical arrangement of keywords was not obvious to him until he wrote an IBIS parser. Bob described some keywords that were and were not at the same level. Michael M. asked if we want to assign specific numbering depths to keywords. Mike L. noted that the numbering then would match the depths in the tree diagram. Arpad asked if subparameters would be likewise numbered. Michael M. suggested that everything below the Keyword level could be indented but not numbered. Bob Ross said keywords with hierarchical numbers would not imply an order of importance. He noted that Vinh for example could not follow an unrelated keyword, it must appear after [Model]. Michael Mirmak said renumbering to show keyword hierarchy might be too big a job to take on. He noted that section 10 had the greatest depth. Mike L. said that those numbered headings in section 10 were about concepts, not keywords, and we should not remove numbers where doing so would produce a long series of unnumbered headings. Arpad Muranyi showed IBIS 6.1 section 4, noting that numbering the keywords there would shift the text to the right. Mike L. suggested that such indentation might make existing syntax examples and figures no longer fit the page width. Bob Ross said we should defer action on this until we have a stable document. Arpad suggested it might be easier to add an [End *] keyword for each keyword, to denote hierarchical enclosure. Michael Mirmak said we should change "chapter" to "section" and enforce numbering on headers but not keywords. Bob and Mike L. agreed. These changes will be added to the task list. Michael Mirmak said we need to decide who will edit the next draft. Arpad moved to assign Michael M. the task of editing the next draft. Bob Rss seconded. Michael M. accepted. There were no objections. Arpad Muranyi asked what his AR was supposed to resolve. Michael Mirmak said we were to identify and track the issues, and this was done. Bob said we will need to fix the introduction to general Reserved_Parameters. Michael Mirmak showed the checklist of issues. He asked if we need to address this in the next draft. Bob Ross said we need to check what is already done in the latest draft. Michael M. said he would start addressing checklist issues beginning at #5. He asked what date should be in the "Implemented" column. Bob said it should be the date that the draft fixing the issue was sent. Bob Ross noted that there were 8-character indents in some places that were excessive. These should be looked at. Michael Mirmak to edit new IBIS 7.0 draft and send to group. [AR] Mike LaBonte moved to adjourn. Arpad Muranyi seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. The next meeting will take place August 17.
