A side note on "SPICE". Even if you can "decrypt" an HSPICE
model, the model may not be appropriate for use in another
"spice" simulator. It is safer to obtain a parameter set that
has been specifically qualified in your simulator tool.

Using a "model" (set of parameters) meant for one SPICE simulator
in another can change simulation results, sometimes significantly.

Why is that, you ask? The implementation of model equations (such
as BSIM3) is different in different simulators. When a foundry provides
a "process model", it is targeted to a specific EDA tool (such as
HSPICE,
Spectre, Eldo). Different models for different tools have different
parameter
values, and sometimes even different parameters.

Just out of interest, what is the encryption scheme used in HSPICE and
similar
tools and how robust are they regarded to be in these days of hackers?

This is true. But the major limitation with ICX3.0 I found is that it
does not allow encrypted spice IO models. Unfortunately, almost all IC
vendors provide
only encrypted IO models(& transistor library) even under NDA
disclosure
and they only runs with Avanti! hpsice tool. I can't take advantage of
the
new ICX3.0 spice feature in such circumstances. However, the old feature
of extracting the topology in spice format, hooking up spice models
externally and
running under hspice is a work around solution for the above limitation.
