[IBIS] RE: [ibis-macro] Re: IBIS-ATM teleconference - Agenda for 4/12/2011

1) With recorded data and the possibility for
post processing I don't see any violation
of causality.

2) The user can only ask the EDA tool to do
something if the EDA tool has a certain feature
implemented. Since the meaning of Model_Specific
parameters are not defined, I would think the
EDA vendors will have a pretty hard time to
figure out what features to implement.

Arpad,

Several comments on the following:

Model_Specific parameters must not be used for purposes which may alter
past, present or future simulation results in any way. In case there is
a
need to use parameters of (Usage Out) or (Usage InOut) for such
purposes,
those parameters shall be defined as Reserved_Parameters and fully
described in the specification.

First, "alter past" violates causality.

Second, in my e-mail " The roll of IBIS, Model Maker, EDA Tool, and
Model
User" sent Sat 4/9/2011 1:43 PM I avowed that "The User decides how he
wants the outputs of the model to be used." So if a User asked an EDA
tool
to alter the results of a simulation based on any output of any model
(including, but not limited to AMI models), how can IBIS prevent this.
Therefore this statement cannot stand.

Walter

The file for the Out/InOut BIRD draft has been posted to the ATM web
site
for today's discussion:

Please take a few minutes to look it over for the meeting if possible.

Thanks,

Arpad

Agenda
======

1) Opens
2) Call for any related patent disclosures
3) Review of ARs:

Any other AR-s?

Old ARs:

Arpad: Review the documentation (annotation) in the macro libraries.
        - deferred until a demand arises or we have nothing else to do

4) Cross talk BIRD draft
    - any last minute comments?
    - vote to submit it to the IBIS Open Forum

5) Out_InOut BIRD draft
    - discussion
    - schedule a vote

6) (Format) Table Syntax Clarification (Row 21, 22)
    from Ambrish, Walter and Bob
    - last week we decided to accept Bob's suggestions from these:
      - Table_BIRD_Ambrish_02.pdf (Ambrish)
      - Table_BIRD_Walter_05.pdf (Walter)
      - Table_BIRD_Bob_proposal_02.pdf (Bob)

7a) BIRD 123.2, jitter parameters (includes Row 37)
    - review latest changes (additions) from Walter
    - do the changes answer the questions raised before:
      - remove Usage Out from the BIRD? or
      - specify which function (Init or GetWave) can return values?
      - specify what the EDA tool should do with the returned values?

7b) BIRD 121, data management parameters (file support)
    - questions, comments?

7c) BIRD 124, dependency table
    - questions, comments?

8) Analog BIRD draft (Walter)
    - questions, comments?

9) Backchannel BIRD draft (Ken)
    - questions, comments?

10) IBIS-AMI Section 6c Tables Update (Table1_3_BIRD_draft_1.pdf)
     - this is on hold until all related items are defined

11) Define relationship between Type and Format (Row 25 in Task List
    Type_Format_Table_BIRD_02.pdf)
    - this is on hold until all related items are defined

Remaining Task List items:
==========================

Row 18: What is the ambiguity between Format and Text Strings?
        - answer: See row 25

Row 21: According to the BNF, the Format = Table syntax is invalid.
        - If Format is removed, this s not a problem, but if Format
is there the problem still exists. Do we need to fix this?
          - we will address this when talking about Table

Row 22: The syntax for a leaf is:
        (Row 22 in Task List)
           <leaf>: ( <parameter name> whitespace <value list> )
So in a Table which is written like this: (-50 -0.1 1e-35),
           -50 is actually a parameter name, i.e. a string, not a value.
        -deprecate Table back to List?
        - we will address this when talking about Table

Row 23/24: Fix the two tables to reflect what is in the text
           - Bob started a BIRD draft which will be finalized
             as other BIRDs are completed

Row 25: Define relationship between Type and Format
        - discuss Walter's suggestions

Row 26: This is basically the same as the items in Row 46-47.

Row 33: Is AMI_Init restricted to change first column of impulse_matrix
        only?
        - Sigrity is writing a BIRD draft on this (Ken)

Row 35: Clarify questions about impulse response
        - this needs to be discussed

Row 37: Usage Out for reserved (jitter) parameters
        - which function (Init or GetWave) can return these?

Row 46/47: Remove certain parameters and keywords
           - this needs to be discussed

Thanks,

Arpad
