CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak stated that the GEIA provided a complete financial report for the Open Forum through the end of March. The Open Forum is under budget by approximately $700, with $13,000 in revenue. Approximately $19,000 in annual revenue is required to cover expenses, mostly allocation of dues to GEIA, our parent organization. Membership stands at 17 organizations, with at least eight more renewals required in order to guarantee meeting our budget targets. Michael also noted that Silvaco has become the latest organization to purchase a parser license. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak noted that minutes from the April 23 Open Forum meeting were awaiting approval. Without objection, the minutes were approved without changes. Michael Mirmak also reminded the group that the Open Forum is now using the GEIA's approval process for meeting minutes. Minutes are distributed only after the GEIA counsel reviews and approves them. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Michael Mirmak announced during the meeting that all eda.org documents can be accessed using a mirror: http://www.ibis-information.org Note that the "pub/ibis" text should be removed from directory names when this URL mirror is used. This is noted in the Notes at the end of these minutes. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq announced that the several broken links on the IBIS web site have been fixed. Michael Mirmak also noted that a new index of IBIS Summit presentations has been created and posted to the Summits page. The index may be sorted by title, date, author and author's organization, and may be automatically updated through a Perl script. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No new issues. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No opens were noted. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION John Angulo reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. The "spam" messages on the hypermail archive appear to have been one-time problems and have not recurred. The backlog of subscription requests has been cleared. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Michael Mirmak noted that he had received a summary of several events from Lynne Green. An IBIS Workshop was held at JEDEX on April 16th. It had six attendees. The presentation is posted on the IBIS/Articles page. Lynne's Fabless Semiconductor Association presentation on the IBIS Quality work on April 15th had about 12 attendees. She also presented on AMS modeling to an IEEE chapter at Northcon. Finally, Lynne will present a paper on IBIS Quality at the International Cadence Users Group meeting in September in the San Jose area. DAC 2004 SUMMIT PLANNING John Angulo reported that no difficulties have yet been encountered in DAC Summit planning. Lunch and refreshment arrangements are being finalized, and prices are fairly well understood. Registration stands at 13-15, with traditional attendance being 20-25. More registrations are expected in the coming weeks. Guy de Burgh reported that his attendance at DAC was highly unlikely. No booth for IBIS is planned for DAC. Ian Dodd accepted the AR to bring Guy's LCD projector, if it is available. OTHER EVENTS No other events were discussed. IBIS VERSION 4.0 AND 4.1 PARSER Michael Mirmak noted that work continues with the GEIA to establish NDA and licensing procedures Michael Mirmak also updated the team on the latest parser plans. Bidding closed April 30. Three bids have been received and are under consideration. He also noted that the likely costs of the parser require a minimum of four to six new parser license purchasers. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Robert Haller reported that the Quality Committee continues to review the Quality document, example, and checklist. No decision has yet been taken on formal approval of the documents. Outside organizations will be asked to test the procedure first, to ensure industry acceptance. Robert is considering working with the IBIS Model Review Committee to help boost interest and usage of the Quality procedure. Meetings are now being held monthly, with the next meeting during the first week in June, 2004. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE No new models. S2IBIS3 Ambrish Varma reported that version 0.3 of S2IBIS3 has been created and uploaded to the S2IBIS3 web site. A list of changes is available. Ambrish noted that no major issues have been voiced, but many minor bugs have been fixed. The number of inquiries regarding S2IBIS3 has been high recently. Syed Huq inquired about a "front end" to the program. Ambrish responded that this was certainly desirable, but none was planned. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that IIRD1.1 (ICM Issue Resolution Document) has been issued. This is summarized in the Technical Discussion section below. No other parser or specification issues have been reported. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK SUBCOMMITTEES Michael Mirmak noted that meetings of the Futures and Cookbook subcommittees continue regularly. The Futures subcommittee is considering six specification changes and is creating and reviewing problem statements and proposals for solutions for each. The most recent topic discussed was user-definable measurement parameters. The Cookbook Subcommittee has a draft outline for the new document and will be generating text for each section in the coming meetings. NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES Michael Mirmak reminded the team that the June DAC IBIS Summit would include elections of officers. Those interested in standing for an office may send self-nominations to Michael for consideration at the Summit. Nominations of third parties are acceptable, so long as the prospective nominee consents to the nomination. John Angulo reported that he will not be standing for Postmaster. Lynne Green has previously noted that she will not be standing for Vice-Chair. Roy Leventhal, Syed Huq and Randy Wolff all reported that they were willing to continue in their current posts, with Syed also willing to accept the Vice-Chair's position. At present, the slate of officer nominations includes: Chair: Michael Mirmak Vice-Chair: Syed Huq Secretary: Randy Wolff Webmaster: Syed Huq Postmaster: (open) Librarian: Roy Leventhal BIRD88: DRIVER SCHEDULE INITIALIZATION Michael Mirmak asked for feedback on BIRD88. No new comments were noted. Bob Ross suggested that an approval vote be scheduled for the June 4 meeting, to inspire review of the BIRD. Feedback on the changes is strongly encouraged. An approval vote will be held during the June 4 Open Forum meeting. BIRD89.1: KEYWORD HIERARCHY TREE Michael Mirmak introduced BIRD89.1. The BIRD is essentially unchanged from the previous version, except that the [Add Submodel] keyword is now correctly listed as being within the scope of [Model], as suggested by John Angulo. Bob Ross also noted that the traditional change notation of "|**" was not used in this version, but that this can be noted and corrected at the vote. No other changes were suggested. An approval vote will be held during the June 4 Open Forum meeting. IIRD1: CLARIFICATION OF MULT FOR S-PARAMETERS Michael Mirmak introduced IIRD1.1. The IIRD text has been updated, as suggested by Bob Ross, to remove the justification used for the restriction of Mult to 1 in the proposed text. An approval vote will be held during the June 4 Open Forum meeting. Additionally, Michael noted that the Mult subparameter is only restricted to integers. As a result, values of 0 or even -1 are technically permissible. Bob suggested that this was useful in the PKG IBIS context, but may not be so for ICM. The parser's behavior should be checked with such values, and then another IIRD may be filed. BUG REPORTS Michael Mirmak introduced BUG85 and BUG86 for consideration. BUG85 documents a minor error in the wvfm.h header file, where a function is inappropriately declared. The issue has no known impact to parsing output, but causes warnings during UNIX compilation. Without objection, the BUG was classified as "annoying," "low priority" and "open." It will be fixed in the next release. BUG86 documents the compilation options available for Microsoft Windows* and Microsoft DOS*, and notes that using compilation switches appropriate for earlier operating systems may cause unexpected results when the executables are run on more recent systems. The readme file for the parser should be changed to reflect the proper use of the switches. Without objection, the BUG was classified as "annoying," "low priority" and "open." It will be fixed in the next release. Bob Ross suggested that both of these issues could be resolved by the IBIS Open Forum members without requiring additional effort by a software developer. Michael agreed, and suggested accumulating several of these issues before distributing an executable update. Of the remaining open BUG reports, BUG80 is awaiting resolution of BIRD89.1. John Angulo reported that he had investigated BUG84 in detail. The parser crashes with an empty [Pin Numbers] entry because of an attempt to reference a non-existent array (a NULL pointer is being de-referenced). The array is improperly sized because the existence and/or size of the array is not established and checked before the array is accessed. John suggested that this requires a one-line code solution, in addition to a warning or error message. John accepted the AR to provide the solution and message text. Additionally, John noted that no warning or error is reported if the [Pin Numbers] entry is numerically larger than the actual number of pin entries listed. Michael will check the specification to see if this is a legal construction. NEXT MEETING The next Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for June 4, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Standard Time. Votes on BIRD88, BIRD89.1 and IIRD1.1 are scheduled. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation M/S FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
