CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak updated the team on the current state of Open Forum finances. Membership stands at twenty organizations. No new memberships have been received, though the membership roster has been corrected to include all the paid members. The records backlog with the GEIA has been cleared. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the August 6, 2004 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. Michael noted that no requests for changes have been received and asked for objections to approving the minutes as written. No objections were raised. The minutes were approved. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq reported that discussions continue with the GEIA over the proper default web URL to use for the IBIS official home page. Bob Ross suggested that "ibis.htm" is the traditional URL used in IBIS publications and that an automatic redirect needs to be posted as soon as possible. The current "default.htm" page is used as the official page. Syed will report progress in the next meeting. Syed also reported that the "Upcoming Events" page has been updated with the latest information for PCB East and DesignCon 2005. Bob Ross mentioned that the August 2004 issue of EDN magazine (US edition) mentioned IBIS models as part of system design and EDA analysis. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE Lance Wang reported that he is working on a Library page update, which is now 90% complete. The update should be ready for review by the next Open Forum meeting. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS No announcements were made. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No Opens were raised MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Bob Ross reminded the attendees that the 13th Topical Meeting on Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging (EPEP 2004) is scheduled for October 25-27, 2004 in Portland, Oregon. Bob noted that Ambrish Varma will be presenting on SSO issues with IBIS models. Also, the Future Directions in IC and Package Design Workshop (FDIP'04) is scheduled the day before on Sunday,October 24, 2004. See the site below for details on both meetings: http://www.epep.org/ SUMMITS Michael Mirmak reviewed the upcoming IBIS Summit schedule. - PCB Conference East IBIS Summit, October 4, 2004, Westford MA PCB East is scheduled for October, with a Summit tentatively planned for Monday, October 4. Syed Huq reported that a first call for papers was distributed in mid-August. - DesignCon IBIS Summit, January 31, 2005, Santa Clara, CA DesignCon 2005 will take place starting in late January, with a Summit scheduled for Monday, January 31. Michael reported that a new marketing contact name for DesignCon had been found and that a draft contract between the Open Forum and DesignCon had been exchanged. So far, the terms are not substantially different than those from previous summits. DesignCon expressed flexibility regarding dates, but suggested that Monday, January 31 is still the best in terms of minimizing conflicts. Bob Ross asked that Michael find out whether a free lunch could be obtained as part of the keynote address on Monday. - DATE European IBIS Summit, March 11,2005, Munich, Germany DATE 2005 will take place in Munich, with a Summit planned for Friday, March 11. Michael has asked Zuken regarding room arrangements and date preferences and will report their response at the next meeting. - Potential JEITA Asian IBIS Summit, Feb-March 2005, Tokyo, Japan Bob Ross inquired as to whether a teleconference would be feasible for the potential Japan IBIS Summit in 2005. Michael agreed to look into this. Sponsorship opportunities for all these Summits are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross reported that meetings continue to be held monthly. The summer meetings have been suspended due to numerous absences. The next meeting is scheduled for September 7. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green stated that no new models have been received. S2IBIS3 Ambrish Varma reported that additional people are starting work on S2IBIS3 improvements, particularly on the GUI. An update to the program is anticipated around December. Additional volunteers, especially for implementation of new keywords, would be most helpful. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER Michael Mirmak summarized the state of the IBIS 4.1 parser. An alpha release of the parser is expected shortly, to establish the appropriate integration of limited 4.1 features without changing 4.0 behaviors. Bob Ross is acting as a technical contact for parser development questions. Bob Ross noted that several editorial BIRDs are expected shortly to address issues of clarification in the 4.1 text. These include disconnected pads and pins in Figure 12 of the specification, an assumption of external connectivity through ICM and the need for an explicit link between IBIS 4.1 and ICM. BIRDs will be discussed in the Futures committee before introduction to the Open Forum. IBIS ANSI BALLOT STATUS Randy Wolff reported that he has submitted a PINS form to the GEIA to being the process for ANSI balloting of ICM. An official project number will be issued shortly. Randy also stated that the GEIA and ANSI set no minimum times between revisions. Therefore, we can reballot IBIS 3.2 and then ballot 4.x as soon as it is ready. Bob Ross suggested that IBIS 3.2 reballoting would be the most appropriate choice, with IBIS 4.2 to follow. Lynne Green inquired as to whether a cost was associated with additional ballots. Randy took the AR to investigate this and report back. A vote will be taken at the next meeting as to which specification should be balloted. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak again raised the issue of closing ICM to changes for the next revision, ICM 1.1. At present several IIRDs are pending consideration by the Open Forum but no major technical enhancements have been proposed outside of adding frequency-dependent RLGC matrices. Bob Ross suggested that at least one more IIRD is pending, possibly related to IBIS links. ICM 1.1 discussions will be tabled until all pending IIRDs have been dispositioned. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that both the Futures and Cookbook Committees are continuing to meet during a shared time every two weeks. The Cookbook Committee has begun reviewing a first draft of the revised IBIS cookbook, particularly on assembling device data into IBIS models. The Futures Committee recently discussed an updated SSO treatment proposal. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES No new administrative issues were raised. IIRD3: RLGC MATRIX CLARIFICATIONS Michael Mirmak reviewed IIRD3 - RLGC Matrix Clarifications. No changes had been suggested since the last meeting. Bob Ross proposed two stylistic comments: an additional comma and the removal of double dashes. No other comments were offered. Michael called for a vote. The IIRD was approved unanimously and will be posted, with Bob's suggested changes, as IIRD3.1. BIRD90: MULTIPLE A_TO_D SUBPARAMETERS CLARIFICATION Bob Ross introduced BIRD90. The BIRD adjusts language in the IBIS specification relating to how SPICE digital I/O conversion is performed. At present, each signal converting analog signals to a digital port is required to have a different name, except in the case of different node connections. In actuality, other types of variation should be allowed to exist uner the same name, particularly corner. Bob noted that the text mistakenly uses "port_name" rather than "D_port" to refer to port descriptors. John Angulo inquired whether having both D_to_A and A_to_D column naming restrictions removed should be considered. Bob agreed to issue BIRD90.1 to address the use of "port_name" in the text. He will address John Angulo's question separately. IIRD4: REMOVAL OF EXTRANEOUS ARGUMENT FOR [END ICM SECTION] KEYWORD Kelly Green summarized IIRD4, part of a series of IIRDs to align the specification language with the intent of the specification as noted in comments made in the parser release notes. IIRD4 addresses the string argument to [End ICM Section] requirement in ICM 1.0. No other keyword ending a data section requires an argument, either in ICM or IBIS. This is regarded by the Open Forum participants as a typographical error which should have been removed in the final version. The current parser checks for this and issues an error if the argument is missing. The IIRD removes the requirement, but makes no statement about the treatment of ICM 1.0 models by the parser. Bob Ross stated that, as this is an acknowledged error, the parser should flag the additional argument as an error, even in ICM 1.0 models. Arpad Muranyi raised the issue of revision levels and parser treatments, as Bob's solution would impact existing models. Previously, major revisions were considered "not to exist," while minor revisions were treated as final, public editions. Bob responded by stating that any parser should be considered a work in progress. As such, the Open Forum should recognize and remove errors as they occur. Kelly agreed to reissue the IIRD, to make the removal of the argument mandatory rather than optional. IIRD5 and IIRD6, both filed by Kelly, will be discussed at the next IBIS Open Forum meeting. BUG REPORTS Due to lack of time, no discussion was held. John Angulo will propose a formal resolution to BUG80 at the next Open Forum meeting. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES No new issues raised. NEXT MEETING The next Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for September 17, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. A vote is scheduled, as to which IBIS version to use for ANSI balloting purposes. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
