================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from January 17, 2018 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the January 12 meeting. Mike LaBonte moved to approve the minutes. Randy Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Walter Katz to rewrite the rail terminal rules section clarifying the term "name". - Walter reported that this has been done in BIRD189.5_draft15_v8. - Bob Ross to send out BIRD189.5_draft15_v5. - Bob reported this is done. - Walter to make changes to the phrase "Legacy Package Models" in the Requirements section. - Bob reported this is done. - Mike and Arpad to discuss the Aggressor graphic in the ATM meeting. - Arpad reported that the Aggressor graphic was discussed and there were some updates done to the graphic. Mike noted that he would like to post BIRD189.5_draft15, then have the figures added in draft16. Michael asked if the figures are finalized. Arpad said there was no final decision, but no one had expressed objections to them. Arpad commented that we may want to add some text. Bob was concerned that pin 4 in Arpad's drawing does not have an model where it as a victim. Arpad noted that is the point of the drawing. It illustrates a problem case, where if you want to simulate pin 4, which is an aggressor in two models, the model used would be based on the order of appearance. Mike had added a single sentence to introduce his figure. Mike suggested for Arpad to add some text to introduce his version of the Aggressor drawing [AR]. Mike stated he would also like some description about the color coding. Walter agreed. - Bob to add a note to Background/History section stating that the example flow may no longer apply. - Bob reported that this note has been added. Opens: - None. BIRD189.5_draft15_v9 review: Michael asked if this version includes all of the latest updates. Walter replied that it does. Walter started on page 7 noting that he implemented some suggestions from Arpad on the wording of the last sentence in the I/O pin_name rules section. Bob suggested for the phrase "model maker" to be lower case in this section. Bob also noted that "models" should be Interconnect Model Groups referenced by Interconnect Model Sets in the last sentence of this section. Mike noted that this sentence is addressing the case where we are looking through the models, there are no models in which the pin is a victim pin, and the EDA tool has to settle for an Aggressor_Only pin. He thought model makers should, as a good practice, avoid this case. Bob noted that this is a default case based on an order dependent rule. Walter added a sentence stating the best approach is for model makers to avoid this situation. Walter had added a definition for Pin_Rail terminal and it was reworded in the ATM meeting. He also modified the Pad_Rail and Buffer_Rail terminal definitions to be consistent. Arpad expressed concern about the use of the word "terminal". He asked if we are talking about a physical terminal or the terminal line. Bob noted that we have three ways of defining terminals at the pin interface: pin_name, signal_name, or bus_label. Arpad asked about the examples and the meaning of the second column in the terminal lines. He commented that the second column is not the terminal but rather the terminal_type. Michael asked if Arpad would use a different word. Arpad thought that the phrase "Pin_Rail terminal" is imprecise. He preferred to use the wording: "a terminal_type of Pin_Rail". Walter suggested to change "Pin_Rail terminal" to "a terminal whose terminal_type is Pin_Rail" and will make this change [AR]. Bob noted that Buffer_Rail is different, as it includes Pullup, Pulldown, etc. Walter expressed concern that changing all instances of Pin_Rail terminals and Pad_Rail terminals in this way will make these sections unreadable. Arpad stated that he can help Walter implement these changes. Michael asked about any comments that still need to be resolved in the document. Walter noted there is a comment about the table error. Mike suggested to remove the comment and this can be resolved in editorial work. Walter deleted the error message and the comment. Michael asked about the status of the A_gnd example. Bob to fix the reference terminal in the A_gnd example [AR]. Michael asked about the order of the edits. Walter suggested the following order of edits: 1. Walter and Arpad to change the Pin_Rail, Pad_Rail and Buffer_Rail terminal phrases. 2. Arpad to add the Aggressor graphic and text. 3. Bob to fix the A_gnd example. Mike suggested to leave the graphics out of draft15 and add it to a later draft. Bob agreed. Michael asked about the changes to Requirements 12 and 15. Walter noted that this is done. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be January 19. Arpad moved to adjourn. Mike seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. Task List BIRD189.5 editorial additions/changes to be completed: 1. Add a new example showing the A_gnd syntax
