Michael Mirmak* Marvell Steve Parker MathWorks Walter Katz* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield* Randy Wolff Siemens EDA Arpad Muranyi* ST Microelectronics Aurora Sanna Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Illinois Jose Schutt-Aine Zuken USA Lance Wang* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the February 23, 2022 meeting. Michael displayed the minutes. Arpad Muranyi motioned to approve the minutes with the comments he provided over email. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Michael to propose changes to the Touchstone 2 Example 15. - Michael has added this to TSIRD4. - Arpad to check if the "NC" pins shall not appear on any Terminal lines rule should be stated in the EMD Model section. - Arpad checked this and sent out an email. He did not find any rule in the EMD Model section about "NC" pins. Randy Wolff had proposed new text to be added. Arpad has sent out an updated version of the BIRD draft with this text. - Bob to come up with a test case for a VCC problem example. - Bob sent out an example regarding this issue. Arpad found a rule which prohibits this. Bob stated that the rules are spread out in the IBIS specification and are not consolidated in any one place. Arpad noted the rule prevents the same signal_names from having different signal_types. Bob stated a more clear rule would be to not allow mixed situations. Michael asked if we need any clarification on this. Bob replied it would be helpful, so that the Designator Pin List could be checked by itself. Arpad suggested to look at this in the context of the text he has added in the Designator Pin List Relaxation BIRD. Opens: - None. Discussion: Designator Pin List Relaxation: Arpad shared the latest draft with the sentence added to page 380 in the pin rules section. Bob agreed with the sentence, but it does not say that "NC" is prohibited as a signal_name entry. Arpad noted that rule is already stated elsewhere. Michael asked where that rule is now. Arpad replied this rule is on page 368 and 364: "If a pin has a signal_type POWER, then all other pins with the same signal_name as this pin shall have signal_type POWER." This is under the Designator Pin List and under the EMD Pin List. Bob agreed this rule does cover the issue. He was not sure if it is an error or warning from the parser. Arpad noted "NC" on an EMD pin means that there is no outside connection, but on the inside we could have a connection. Bob motioned to submit draft 11 of the Designator Pin List Relaxation BIRD to the IBIS Open Forum. Arpad seconded. There were no objections Arpad will remove the highlights and send the Designator Pin List Relaxation BIRD to Randy for submission to the IBIS Open Forum [AR]. TSIRD4: Michael shared TSIRD4 which clarifies and corrects the examples. The draft 4 spells out the required keywords and fixes a typo in Two-Port Data Order. The TSIRD only has the proposed text with the changes highlighted in red. There are clarifications to the introduction of Example 15. Michael asked if we should submit the TSIRD with the same process as a BIRD. Bob replied we can send the document to Randy, and he can handle the logistics. Arpad motioned to submit TSIRD4 to the IBIS Open Forum. Bob seconded. There were no objections. Michael will send TSIRD4 to Randy for submission to the IBIS Open Forum [AR]. Michael asked if TSIRD4 was formally introduced yet. Bob replied it has not been introduced yet. Frequency Data in Multiple Lines: Michael asked if there is any action needed for the frequency data on multiple lines question. The complex number pair can be split in Touchstone 2 and not in Touchstone 1. Bob had tested this, and the parser matches this behavior. He suggested there was no action needed on this. Walter Katz commented that one of the examples is possibly confusing on this point. Michael stated we can consider this item closed. Pole-Residue Format: Michael asked if we want to wait to discuss the Pole-Residue format until after DesignCon. Walter asked if there is any proposed specification. Michael replied there is not a formal document yet. We have not received any donations of a proprietary format. There are two formats from Vladimir Dmitriev-Zdorov and Jose Schutt-Aine. Bob suggested we can discuss this further at DesignCon. Arpad stated he would not mind to use Vladimir's format. Michael stated we would need to work out the legal discussion, but we should get through some of the technical questions first. Bob commented we would want to support Y and Z-parameters, and we would need to enhance the format for this. Arpad suggested to discuss it further with Vladimir. We could invite him here or wait until DesignCon. Arpad motioned to adjourn. Walter seconded. The meeting adjourned. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be March 9. ================================================================================ Bin List: 1. Touchstone 3 2. Pole-residue support for Touchstone 3.
