During opens, Michael Mirmak noted that the teleconference bridges will change April 1. Minutes have been posted online for all meetings since December. Brad Brim noted that there were no updates on Si2. Regarding the introduction he submitted for EMD, Bob Ross very briefly mentioned that the text was intended to tone down some language about the relationship between EMD and EBD. Walter Katz confirmed Bob’s point regarding a recognized deficiency in EMD, in that EMD places subcircuits in another file, where EBD places its subcircuits in the same file. Walter proposed adding the actual IBIS- ISS subcircuits as part of the EMD file. Bob disagreed. During review of the EMD draft, both Bob and Brad noted that a DC point may or may not be present in the EMD data and that might affect DC path descriptions. Series caps may not contain DC paths. Walter agreed that it is hard to find points in a network that are connected. He suggested that identifying connections are not an EDA tool responsibility but a model maker responsibility. The concept is to identify driver toggling a line as seen at the receiver. Michael asked about defining policy as to a future parser – no significant model quality checking; syntax only, similar to Touchstone (no IBIS-ISS parser yet). Bob and Walter agree; syntax only and simple connectivity where possible should be checked, plus cross-file references. Walter noted that no new feedback has been received on the EMD draft. He suggested a three-part review: 1) functionality correct? 2) editorial word-smithing 3) syntax. Bob suggested that the functions be limited, to only call other EMDs and IBIS files; do not call EBDs. Walter suggested that one can convert an EBD to an EMD separately. Bob noted that the syntax section is missing from the draft. Walter noted that it the syntax section does not need to match IBIS-AMI format for tree structure. Double quotes, strings, spaces – rules for these should be settled. Similar rules for numbers should be settled (Randy Wolff noted that version may be a number; Bob observes it as a string). Walter suggests that a mistake was made in IBIS-AMI in not supporting suffixes and in specific types of strings. Brad suggested that scales/units are one useful feature to support, not currently part of all IBIS specifications. Bob suggested the intention to relax/eliminate rules now in IBIS Section 3. Specific name length limits are not needed. Walter suggested that, in the tree format, all entries or values are really strings. Michael asked where the comment character is defined, as it is used at least once. Bob added that a line-oriented approach will help with comment support. Michael asked whether a line orientation is an anachronism. Arpad Muranyi noted that comment is mentioned in IBIS-AMI for tree syntax; it would be best to define it in one place for multiple documents. Walter added that double quotes around strings shouldn’t be required for EMD; it is required for IBIS-AMI now. Walter accepted the action item to generate a Draft 4 – add comment definition, add Section 3 plus Bob’s introduction. Randy Wolff took the action item to provide a simple example for EMD syntax checking.
