================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from April 4, 2018 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Mike called for review of the minutes from the March 28 meeting. Bob Ross moved to approve the minutes. Justin seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Bob and Arpad Muranyi to discuss the port versus node language on page 94 and make a recommendation. - Arpad reported this was discussed in ATM meeting, and it was decided to edit the text in the BIRD189 draft in today's meeting. Mike agreed we can make these changes today. - Arpad to review the "Important" paragraphs on page 30 for inclusion in BIRD189 [AR]. - Arpad reported that this is not done yet. - Michael Mirmak to send out BIRD189.5_draft18_v5. - Mike noted that this has been done. Opens: - Mike stated we will try to resolve some of the comments in BIRD189.5_draft18_v5 and save it as BIRD189.5_draft18_v6. BIRD189.5_draft18_v5 Review: Arpad suggested to clean up the page 94 reference first, since it was discussed in ATM. Mike noted that he fixed the column issue on the table and deleted the corresponding comment. Arpad noted, after further review, that the A_gnd text on pages 5 and 6 is okay, as it already states A_gnd is the simulator global reference node. Bob agreed that this reflects the decision made in ATM. Mike thought it is useful to include the word "simulator". Mike deleted the comment on page 6 noting that it was about a deleted section. Mike noted on page 7 there is a comment regarding adding "rails" or "supply rails", but it is regarding a deleted section. Arpad stated it can be deleted. Mike deleted this comment. On page 9, there are two comments from Radek about the meaning of reference in the General description of rail terminals section. The first comment asks the meaning of the word "reference". Mike thought that reference is well defined. Arpad agreed. The second comment asks if the text is referring to "a reference node" or "a reference terminal". Arpad thought that the text is okay. Bob agreed. Arpad stated that this section is noting that terminal lines connect the terminals of an Interconnect Model to something. In the File_TS case, it is a reference terminal, while for File_ISS, it could be a short and reference node. In other words, it could be both. Mike suggested to delete the comment. Arpad suggested to add to the comment saying that it could be "both for File_TS and File_ISS it can be either signal short to ground (for ISS) or port reference (for TS)." On page 28, there is a comment to reword a sentence in the last paragraph. Mike thought by saying a rail terminal or A_gnd it is one or the other. Arpad commented that this text is okay as it is, and we can delete this comment. Mike agreed. Mike stated there are several comments on page 30 which need to be resolved. Arpad noted that the first two Important notes were written by Radek. Arpad commented he still has issues with these statements. He thought we should delete the first two Important note paragraphs, but Radek might not agree with this. He suggested to wait until Radek can comment on this text. Bob stated he also shares Arpad's concerns on these paragraphs. Arpad noted his AR is related to the 3rd and 4th Important note paragraphs, and he would like to wait and review his revised text in the next the meeting. Mike asked about the comment on page 49 regarding the lower case "vss" in the examples. Randy Wolff was concerned that using lower case "vss" was not consistent with the rest of the example which uses upper case "VSS". Bob noted Spice is case insensitive. The intent of the difference in case was to distinguish between the "VSS" in the pin list and the "vss" in the ISS subcircuit. Mike asked if the case does not matter, why would we not be consistent. Arpad suggested to make them all upper case. Bob stated he would be okay with this. Mike made this change to the Example 13. Arpad asked if we could search the document for all instances of lower case "vss". Mike noted that they are all changed to upper case "VSS". Mike asked about the comment on page 50 regarding Example 13. Arpad stated this is an ISS example showing that Terminal_type A_gnd can be used to short to ground, but there are a lot terminals connected to A_gnd. He asked if all the A_gnd are necessary and what the purpose of this example is. Bob noted A_gnd is used to connect the terminals to allow using an existing Spice subcircuit in a reduced pin Set. Arpad asked if connecting the terminals directly to A_gnd without a termination impedance is a good example to show. He agreed that we must bring out all terminals of the subcircuit. But, he wondered if we should include this example, as it is not the best practice. Bob noted that there are several solutions to connect unused terminals. Mike commented it is useful to show that signal terminals could be connected to A_gnd. He wondered if we could reduce the number of terminals connecting to A_gnd in the example. Bob commented the point of the example is that A_gnd can be used to connect any terminal to ground. Arpad stated the subcircuit should be wrapped to remove the extra terminals. Randy agreed, and he said he would typically reduce the unused ports inside the subcircuit. Mike agreed that is the best approach and expected model makers to reduce the ports inside the subcircuit. Mike asked Arpad how many terminals should connect to A_gnd. Arpad thought that there should be only two. He suggested for terminals 3 and 7 to remain A_gnd, and the other terminals to be changed to signals. Mike made this change to the example. Mike asked about the comment about fixing the line wrap issue. Arpad stated it has been fixed already. Mike asked if we want to post this version of the BIRD as draft18. Arpad thought that we should wait to resolve the existing comments before posting as draft18. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be April 6. Arpad moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. Task List BIRD189.5 editorial additions/changes to be completed:
