====================================================================== IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.eda.org/ibis/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ====================================================================== --------------------------------------------------------------------- MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, April 9, 2014 Attendees denoted by * Agilent Technologies - Radek Biernacki* Altera - David Banas Cadence Design Systems - Brad Brim Intel - Michael Mirmak Mentor Graphics - John Angulo*, Arpad Muranyi*, Andrey Matvienko* Micron Technology - Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff Signal Integrity Software - Walter Katz* Teraspeed Consulting Group- Bob Ross* Arpad Muranyi hosted the meeting. No patents were declared. No opens were declared. Arpad: Should we continue with the meeting, since most of those who requested the presentation prepared for the meeting are not present? Walter: Yes, it would be still useful to review the pre-layout examples in BIRD 163 style. Arpad: Shared the presentation slides and discussed each slide. Walter commenting on the last slide: We need to support coupled pre-layout models, and agreed that this will require user intervention. Arpad: This is also a question about how much automation we expect from IBIS, and how useful it is if the user has to do things manually. Bob: Can parameters be passed? Arpad: Yes, the parameter passing features in IBIS v6.0 are all applicable to these examples, and BIRD 165 has additional flexibility for passing parameters individually to each instance of an [External Circuit] from the [Circuit Call] keyword. Bob: Can Touchstone files be instantiated directly without going through the IBIS_ISS subcircuit wrapper? Arpad: No, these BIRDs do not address that. BIRD 144 addressed that topic but it was rejected by the IBIS Open Forum. If this feature is needed, we can address it with a new BIRD. Walter: Strings should probably be enclosed in single quotes in the examples. Arpad shared the IBIS_ISS specification on the screen to look up the proper syntax of string parameters. Arpad: What are the next steps? What decision(s) have to be made to progress with these discussions? Walter: We need to decide whether we want the SiSoft proposal using the [Define Package] approach or the Mentor/Cadence BIRDs with the [External Circuit] syntax. The decision should be made in the Interconnect meetings, brought to the ATM meetings, and then the ATM Task Group can make a final recommendation to the IBIS Open Forum. The meeting ended at 8:55 a.m. Pacific time. AR: Arpad: Email the presentation to the Interconnect reflector and ask Mike M. to post the presentation. =============================================================================
