================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from April 15, 2020 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak*, Ifiok Umoh Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi * Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the April 8, 2020 meeting. Walter Katz moved to approve the minutes. Randy Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Bob to propose changes to the EMD Parts language. - Bob reported this is done, and he sent out an email about this. - Bob to propose changes to the EMD Pin List section. - Bob reported this is not yet done. - Bob to rewrite section 13.6. - Bob noted this is still in progress. - Randy to send out the examples once they are updated with the latest syntax. - Randy reported this was sent out on Monday. - Bob to send out draft 6. - Bob noted this is not yet done. Michael noted we may change this in today's meeting. Opens: - Randy commented the IBIS 7.0 example of the Interconnect Syntax had a few issues, and it was not passing the parser. He made some changes to the package models, and he plans to send out the updated example which fixes these issues. Michael asked if there was any need to the talk about it in this meetings. Randy stated it would be good to talk about it next week. - Arpad noted he has questions on the new keywords and the value of adding these keywords. Michael asked if he had a specific issue. Arpad commented the EMD Parts keyword adds an extra level of indirection. He asked how this reduces the complexity of the EMD. Arpad also asked how any conflicts between the Voltage List and the Voltage Range would be resolved. Michael replied EMD Parts allows the syntax to connect directly to the IBIS file. Arpad noted the name substitution may not help. Walter stated, when he went through the process of creating an EMD, he had part numbers for each designator but not IBIS files. It was a separate process to associate parts with IBIS files, as this information could not be obtained from the board file. Arpad asked if this still requires associating the parts with the IBIS files. Walter replied, yes, but this only has to be done once for each part. Walter commented the reason for the Voltage List is for the pullup and pulldown voltages. He asked how we would do a pullup resistor without this information. Arpad noted one of the issues is how to resolve the conflicts. Walter stated we always have this conflict, and the Voltage List is informational. EMD Draft Review: For the EMD Parts, Bob made changes to the section including the NA in the File Reference column. He also added to the example with the NA NA. The second paragraph deals with the case where the IBIS file component may be incomplete. This would use NC or Terminator. The last paragraph notes the suggestion for documentation. Michael asked if the vendor is the EDA vendor or the IC vendor in this text. Randy suggested this should be the EDA tool which may deal with these special cases in a vendor-specific solution. Arpad asked if the example parts have to start with X, and suggested to use something other than X. Bob stated he will change this. Randy asked if "the vendor" should be made more specific such as changed to "the EDA tool vendor". Bob agreed we can do this. Randy noted a couple of typos with pullup and the sentence that starts with "the pins whose functions not supported" is missing the word "are". Bob agreed with Randy's comments on the consistency of file_reference and part_name. Randy also noted the Component is not consistent, and we should follow the EBD Reference Designator Map. Randy also suggested a rewrite of the EMD Parts Usage Rules. Bob will send out a draft2 of the EMD parts rewrite [AR]. Michael asked about the NA usage in the EMD parts and if this resolves the issues with this new format. Randy thought it looks good. Michael stated we can add this section to the list to integrate into the BIRD. Randy shared his updated examples where he has added the EMD Parts and Voltage List and changed the Designators section. He had to create part numbers for some of components, as they were not in the database. Randy stated we need to decide if we want to include all of these examples in the BIRD and where we want to include the pictures. Bob noted we can add these examples to section 13.6 and move the connection rules to a new section 13.7. The connection rules do not refer to the figures. Bob suggested to paste in the figures and have separate labeling for the figures. Randy noted some of the figure text could be integrated in the body of the text. Michael agreed this is the preferred approach. Michael asked if we are putting these figures by the respective keywords or as a comprehensive example. Bob replied he is thinking of this as a comprehensive example. But, the examples may apply to different sections and rules separately. Bob suggested to have comments and break up the portions of the examples with separators, but he was not sure the best approach for this. Michael suggested for Randy to organize the examples in a word document [AR]. Randy suggested he and Bob talk offline. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be April 22. Bob moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. ================================================================================ Bin List: EMD Comments to be Resolved: (See BIRD202.1 tracking spreadsheet) IBIS-ISS Parser: - IBIS-ISS parser scope document
