====================================================================== IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ====================================================================== Attendees from June 29 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark* Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki*, Ming Yan Mentor Graphics Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. No patents were declared. We reviewed minutes from the 22 June meeting. Walter moved to approve the minutes. Bob seconded. Walter said it would be best if the Commonly Supported Package Sets document presented by him in the previous meeting could be reviewed by other IC and EDA vendors. He suggested sending it to Cadence and Synopsys in particular. AR: Mike send Commonly Supported Package Sets document to Cadence and Synopsys. Bob showed Interconnect Modeling using IBIS-ISS BIRD, Draft 36 br2. Bob asked if aggressors should be specified on both pad and pin lines. Walter said either should suffice. Bob felt it should go at the buffer. Walter said it can go at the buffer, pad or pin. Mike noted that IBISCHK would need to check for inconsistencies if it appears in more than one place. Walter said it should appear on only one place. Bob said it is only needed at the buffer. Walter said it should go on the pin if anything. Randy said it could optionally be on all three. Walter noted that there will be only two connection points for any given model. Walter said there is an error on page 14 of the BIRD. We are not limiting to output type models. Radek asked if we had made a decision on the label for Aggressor. Walter suggested "Aggressor" should instead be "Incomplete_Coupling". Radek felt "Aggressor" might be better. Bob noted that the example should have Aggressor on both sides. Mike suggested using a "Coupling=Incomplete" syntax to allow for other uses in the future. Bob and Walter disagreed. Bob reviewed figure and circuit name changes he made on pages 17 to 29. Bob said Example 4 is pathological case. If there is an ISS capacitance where does it go? Randy said it should have a VSS node to set a good example. Radek said it might instead use the [Pin Reference] we discussed, and that there should be no distinction between ISS and TS in terms of terminal count. Arpad felt we had not yet resolved the TS reference question. Some people may assume node 0 is used. Walter said Randy had resolved that question at the SPI summit in Turin. Some use node 0 and some do not. We have to support both. Arpad said model makers just need to understand what to do. Walter said a cookbook might help. Randy said the terminal 3 for TS should be added to the ISS example, to be consistent. Walter said the Number_of_Terminals also needed to be 3. Bob said Terminal 3 is the N+1 terminal, so N would be 2. Radek said Number_of_Terminals should be 3. We agreed on this, and Bob noted that we might need to make changes elsewhere for this. Radek said it might be more clear to have the number of ports be called "P" and therefore Number_of_Terminals would be P+1. Walter said there should be 2 example sets, one with a reference terminal and one without. Radek said a 2 terminal ISS would need to use node zero inside, or any capacitors would be floating. He said we should not recommend that. Walter said that such a model would have limited accuracy. Randy noted that a 2 terminal model could have just a resistor. Mike suggested having only 3 terminal examples. Walter agreed. AR: Bob update Interconnect Modeling using IBIS-ISS BIRD, Draft 36 to br3 Mike noted that we would surely miss our June 30 deadline to have the BIRD ready. Bob said there is nothing for us to cut out to make for less work. Walter suggested shooting for end of July. ------------- Walter moved to adjourn. Radek seconded. The meeting adjourned.
