====================================================================== IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ====================================================================== Attendees from July 13 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark* Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki, Ming Yan Mentor Graphics Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. No patents were declared. The attendees reviewed minutes from the July 6 meeting. Bob Ross noted that there was a reference in the minutes to BIRD 132, but that didn't seem in context. There is no BIRD related to pin name. Bob moved to approve the minutes. Walter seconded. The minutes were approved with no objections. Review of ARs: - Mike LaBonte to post IBIS Interconnect BIRD draft 37 with changes. Done. Terminal names: Walter Katz suggested using the Reference_supply names used in [Receiver Threshold] keyword for the new [Interconnect Model] keyword. Mike LaBonte showed the [Receiver Threshold] section in IBIS 6.1. Bob Ross agreed that we should move toward consistency with these names. Walter proposed changing the 5 Buf_PU_ref etc. to the names used for [Receiver Threshold], such as Pullup_ref. Mike LaBonte asked if these would retain the "Buf_" prefix. Walter and Bob agreed they should not. We decided to wait for others to be present before voting on this. Terminal types: Walter Katz showed a proposed Terminal_type association table. Walter summarized the changes he was proposing. Bob Ross proposed changing "A" in the table to "Aggressor". Walter made that change and also changed "Z" to "Die", and "Y" to "S". Other changes were considered. Randy Wolff suggested that the table cells could be blocked out somehow, and the notes would explain the meanings. Bob suggested using colors to do that. Randy and Curtis Clark said color should not be relied upon in IBIS. Bob suggested cross-hatching. Arpad suggested putting abbreviated notes into the cells. Mike LaBonte thought we could have "X"s with superscript note numbers. With so many ideas, Bob and Walter agreed to work on this before the next meeting. AR: Bob and Walter edit Terminal_type association table Interconnect Model Sets: Walter Katz showed a proposed [Interconnect Model Set] syntax. Walter said there should be [Interconnect Model Set]s that would work somewhat like [Alternate Package]. They could reside in external files. He gave an example of an IBIS file that might have 8 components, each with different packages, for the same die. In this case each [Component] would have [Interconnect Model Selector]. Bob Ross asked if a power delivery network (PDN) [Interconnect Model Set] would include any I/O terminals? If not, then any buffers would have to be simply shorted to pins. Bob said Walter's Commonly Supported Package Sets document was ambiguous on that. Walter asked Randy Wolff if he would like to have various categories of models to be in separate sets. Randy said on-die decoupling is purely in the PDN. Walter said two sets might be used together. Mike LaBonte said only one set at a time would be used, chosen by the user. Arpad Muranyi said each set should have the same pins. Walter said there might be different sets for each functional pin group. Bob suggested discussing what a set requires next week. Arpad said the scope of [Interconnect Model Set]s is top level, not really under a [Component]. Walter said it made sense for these to be in external files, and two [Component]s could use the same package. Mike said the [Interconnect Model Selector] would be under [Component], and [Interconnect Model Set] would be top level. Bob agreed, saying it was equivalent to [Define Package Model]. Enclosed vs. Name Referenced Interconnect Models: Bob Ross showed a presentation proposing that [Interconn Model]s be called by name, not by being enclosed with an [Interconnect Model Set]. Bob said models could then be reused within a file. Walter Katz cited the example case with 8 [Component]s, each with different packages. He wanted a separate .ims file for each one. The models would have names like DQ1, DQ2. Walter said with Bob's proposal the tool would have to read everything to find the named models. Bob said they would all be in the .ims file or .ibs file, not spread across many files.. Walter moved to adjourn. Bob seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection.
