====================================================================== IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ====================================================================== Attendees from July 19 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki, Ming Yan Mentor, A Siemens Company Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Mike called for review of the minutes from the July 12 meeting. Randy Wolff moved to approve the minutes. Arpad Muranyi seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Mike to update the BIRD189.5 draft 2 and send it out to mailing list. - Mike reported this is done. Opens: - None BIRD189.5 draft 2: Mike reviewed the changes he made on BIRD189.5 from draft 1 to draft 2. On page 10, the word "interface" is added back in per the discussion last time. Arpad asked about the comment regarding the term "silicon die". Mike replied that he will delete the comments which have been resolved. Mike noted the word "or" in the bullet list on page 17 has been deleted. On page 18, the word "integer" has been replaced with the word "numeric". Figure 52 has had some further fixes applied to add dots for the node connections making it more consistent with the IBIS specification. Example 4 is now fixed per Bob's comment last time. In regards to the sentence "A bus_label may be defined also by the [Pin Mapping] keyword" in the [Bus Label] description, Bob suggested to make the sentence more specific. Mike asked if this sentence could be deleted. He also suggested that we might need a bus label clarification BIRD later on. Bob thought that we should clarify bus label as a requirement for BIRD189. Mike added the [Pin Mapping] section does mention the term "bus label". Mike stated the options are to delete the sentence or add the places where bus labels can be defined. Arpad suggested to add the other places where bus labels can be defined. Mike added [Pin], [Pin Mapping], and [Die Supply Pads] to the sentence. Bob mentioned he sent an email on July 10th which details his proposed changes to sentence. Mike deleted the comment which suggested a possible change to [Pin Mapping] text. Mike raised the issue on page 19 in the Unused_port_termination rules with the term "GND". Arpad asked if this sentence should say to connect to the reference. Mike suggested to use the term "local reference", but said he is not opposed to saying "its reference". Bob commented that we do not define the term "local reference". Arpad added that this section also applies to IBIS-ISS. Randy suggested to say "a reference terminal" leaving it generic. Arpad wondered if this statement is too ambiguous, and he asked how the EDA tool would know which reference to connect to. He asked about Example 4 which has a different reference for each section of interconnect model. Mike added a comment that this section will need clarification. Mike asked about Randy's comments on the BIRD. Randy stated on page 11 that the last few paragraphs have "[Interconnet Model]" with the brackets where we are not referring to the keyword. Mike agreed these should have the brackets removed. Bob thought there are some instances where it makes sense to have the brackets. Arpad suggested to keep the brackets and add the word "keyword" to the instances in the second sentence of the last paragraph. Randy commented on page 27 in the example the word full has a '1' in it. Bob commented on page 20 in the Number_of_terminals rules, Randy had suggested the number of terminals for subcircuits and touchstone N+1 rule should be in this section. The sentence in the Terminal line rules section should be moved to the Number_of_terminals section. Mike moved the sentence "The value shall equal the number of subcircuit terminals for an IBIS-ISIS subcircuit, or the number of ports plus 1 (N+1) used in a corresponding associated Touchstone file" to the Number_or_terminals rules section. He also modified the sentence in the Terminal line rules. Mike noted that the main remaining issue is the referencing question. Arpad commented that in Example 4 the first interconnect model's reference is VSS, while the second interconnect model's reference is presumably Pulldown_ref. There is a [Pin Mapping] connection, as well, that defines the references or current paths. Arpad questioned if the [Pin Mapping] data can be ignored in this example. Arpad continued that we should look for a more explicit way to define which pins are the reference. Bob added that there may be current on the reference. Bob suggested to take up this topic next time. Randy noted that the subcircuit name in the second interconnect model in Example 4 has a space in it. Arpad will tentatively put some discussion time on the agenda for next week's ATM meeting about this topic as well. Arpad moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection.
