No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the July 20, 2022 meeting. Michael displayed the minutes. Arpad Muranyi noted a double colon on line 103. Randy Wolff moved to approve the minutes. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Arpad Muranyi to give an example of the physical connectivity needed for EMD automation [AR]. - Michael suggested to keep this AR open. - Arpad and Randy to review the intermingled text between Touchstone 1 and Touchstone 2 sections. - Arpad started to work on this. He suggested to keep this open [AR]. - Michael to send TSIRD4.1 to Randy. - Done. - Michael to add the TSIRD4.1 changes to the Touchstone Draft 8. - Done. Opens: - Arpad would like to start with the Touchstone separation draft. Discussion: Draft separating Touchstone 1 and 2: Bob would like to discuss the Touchstone 1 integration. Arpad thought the cleanest way to separate the text was to include the original Touchstone 1 draft and remove the new stuff, but he could not find the original Touchstone 1.0 document. Randy and Michael had found the 1.1 document with a watermark, but this was a draft. Arpad was not sure if this was approved. Bob stated we might have uploaded Touchstone 1.1 as the starting point for Touchstone 2. The Touchstone 2 specification is the official document that includes Touchstone 1. Randy stated there never was a Touchstone 1.1, as it was only a draft. Michael stated it is not that simple to find the original Touchstone 1 document and use it. Arpad asked if he could use the Touchstone 1.1 document as a baseline for Touchstone 2. Bob replied that this will not work. Walter Katz asked if there is an approved Touchstone 1 specification. Randy replied we only have Touchstone 2 as an approved specification. Walter asked if we should revisit the decision to allow the ".sNp" file extension. Bob noted the extension is allowed to be anything. Arpad asked how to proceed. Randy suggested to separate the document piece by piece. Michael asked if we have anything to review in this meeting. Arpad stated there are not any changes to review in the draft. Randy stated we could start with the draft he sent out. Outline for Touchstone 3: Michael shared the outline document. The idea was to structure the document and the features that we want to include. Bob did not want Touchstone 1 relegated as a difference from Touchstone 2. What we call Touchstone 1 should be specified and documented separately. Walter suggested to add a section on how to convert a Touchstone 1 file to Touchstone 2. Bob noted the parser does this. Michael asked why are we doing the separation if we are not moving the Touchstone 1 to an archived specification. Arpad replied we want to keep the Touchstone 1 files intact but still allow the new keywords, such as PLS and port mapping, to be used. Walter asked why not convert the file to Touchstone 2. Randy replied the proposal is to wrap the Touchstone 1 syntax in a set of keywords. Michael noted, when you add the new keywords, the file becomes a Touchstone 3 file. Michael asked if there is an industry need for port mapping in a Touchstone 1 file. Bob stated the syntax that we produce should support the new features in a Touchstone 1 file. Michael asked if there is a need in the industry to have a Touchstone 1 file with the PLS data. Bob noted the standard in the industry is still the Touchstone 1 format. Walter stated, if we use the new keywords, then a new parser is required. Arpad stated the proposed outline is a radical change to the structure of the specification. He suggested it might be easier to start writing the specification from scratch by following the outline. Michael noted the outline is meant to be a compromise between the two approaches. The outline is largely based on Touchstone 2 assuming the Touchstone 1 text has been separated. Arpad noted the introduction is very intermingled between Touchstone 1 and 2. Michael commented the introduction could be rewritten. Arpad asked if we need still need to complete the separated draft. Michael replied it is still helpful. Bob suggested the PLS and port mapping should be separate sections. He suggested there would be rules for interactions with keywords. Randy asked if it would be helpful to mention what version keywords are available in. Michael asked how we handle this in IBIS. Randy replied we do not list this in IBIS. Michael stated we do have this in AMI. We could add this for Touchstone. Bob noted this in the IBIS expanded tree diagram. Michael will send out draft 2 of the outline [AR]. Bob moved to cancel next week's meeting. Arpad seconded. No objections. Arpad moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be August 10. ================================================================================ Bin List: 1. Touchstone 3 2. Pole-residue support for Touchstone 3.
