================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from August 7, 2019 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the July 31, 2019 meeting. Randy Wolff moved to approve the minutes. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Mike LaBonte to have the Touchstone survey results posted to the website. - Mike will check with Steve Parker on this. They had planned to post this as a "New" banner. - Randy to look at the minutes to determine if any action is required on the EMD "file format structure" issue. - Randy reported that he searched the minutes and found this in the April 17, 2019 minutes. Michael asked if we have made any decisions on this issue. His understanding is that this issue is closed. Bob replied this has been resolved by the evolution of the document. - Bob to put his EMD related motions in writing in the form of an email. - Michael noted this is done. - Michael will send out the corrected version of the EMD document. - Michael reported he sent out a draft 11 that fixes two typos. Michael asked Walter Katz if these changes are reflected in draft 12. Walter replied these are included in draft 12. Opens: - Michael will not be able to host on August 14 and 21. - Michael noted IEEE P2401 LPB ballot is up until August 21. Any feedback on LPB should be passed on before the ballot vote. - Bob raised an issue with Aggressor_Only related to the parser rules. Michael asked if the rules are expected to be new rules and if we need BIRDs to add these rules. Bob noted it would be helpful to have a section on Aggressor_Only rules. Michael asked if we can get a summary of these rules. Bob will send out an email with the rules he is proposing [AR]. Arpad Muranyi asked if these are new rules or clarifying the intent. Bob replied both. - Walter has a resolution, in draft 12, to the EMD structural changes. He would like to discuss this. EMD Discussion: Michael noted the first motion from Bob is to remove the "emd_" prefix from the EMD pin list heading column. Bob made the motion remove the "emd_" prefix. Walter seconded the motion. Walter stated these were added to clarify the meaning of the columns, but he has no objection to removing these. The motion passed with no objections. Michael stated the second motion is to change "signal_type" to "signal_tag". Arpad asked what "type" and "tag" mean here. Walter replied the column has the possible selections of POWER, GND, and NC. If it is blank, it is an I/O. Bob stated the reason for the change is the convention we have in IBIS where types are defined as subparameters. Signal_type is a different way of using the parameters. Bob noted we could use "type" by itself, but the name "signal_type" is confusing. Walter noted there are many different types in IBIS such as Model_type, Submodel_type, etc. Each of these has a list of possible values. This is consistent with signal_type. Walter commented "signal_tag" will be more confusing. Arpad asked what is the meaning of the word "tag". Michael asked if this is more informational or if it is a functional parameter. Bob replied it is a subparameter. Walter asked if there is any consistency rule this is breaking. Bob replied "type" is used as a signal value subparameter under a keyword. Michael asked if this is a consistency issue. Bob replied terminal_type is a different case since it is not a subparameter. He would like to avoid a similar situation to Model_type. Walter seconded the motion and called for a vote. Arpad asked what are the possible items that will be listed under signal_typ. Bob replied POWER, GND, and NC. Arpad asked if these already appear under other types. Bob stated yes, that it is not the issue. Walter commented these names are used under model_name. The roll call vote tally was: Intel - No Mentor - No Micron - No SiSoft - No Teraspeed Labs - Yes The roll call vote concluded with a vote tally of Yes – 1, No – 4, Abstain – 0. The motion did not pass. Bob raised a third motion to allow EMD to support multiple [Define Module] keywords in a single EMD file. Bob noted there is no syntax change, and there is no technical reason to not include this possibility. Arpad asked, if this was approved, would it act as a model selector. Bob replied we already have this issue, as we can select multiple EMD files. Arpad asked, if this is not included now, can we remove this restriction later. Bob stated this is correct, but there is no reason to include this restriction. Walter commented this is a burden on the EDA tools as they will need to account for this in the GUI. Walter noted, for EBDs, EDA vendors are not supporting this and model makers are not using this. Arpad agreed that this is an issue for their GUI developers, and he is opposed to allowing this. Bob stated this is a consistency issue, as it is allowed for other top-level keywords. The roll call vote tally was: Intel - Abstain Mentor - No Micron - No SiSoft - No Teraspeed Labs - Yes The roll call vote concluded with a vote tally of Yes – 1, No – 3, Abstain – 1. The motion did not pass. Walter will make the changes to reflect the changes from these motions and the changes recommended by Michael [AR]. Bob noted he also has some suggestions on the examples. Next Meeting: Mike volunteered to host the meeting the next week. The next meeting will be August 14. Randy moved to adjourn. Arpad seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. ================================================================================ Bin List: EMD Comments to be Resolved: 1.
