Michael Mirmak* Ifiok Umoh Eric Edwards Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield* Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz* Mike LaBonte Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Zuken USA Lance Wang* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the August 12, 2020 meeting. Michael displayed the minutes. Randy moved to approve the minutes with this change. Arpad seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - None. Opens: - Michael noted we have a draft 21 that Randy sent out. EMD Draft21 Review: Randy shared EMD draft21. He reviewed the changes from last week related to changing the word "associated" to "assigned". Michael noted the question from the last meeting was the difference between EMD Pin List and Pin and the relationship to the data book name. Randy had pointed out the third sentence in the EMD Pin List section is taken from the Pin keyword. Michael asked why EMD Pin List should be different. Walter replied an IBIS Component represents a component with a data book. Modules can have a data book, but the question is what does the signal_name in the data book look like. In IBIS Component, every Pin has a unique signal_name, while this is not the case for EMD. EMD uses the signal_name to say the nets are connected inside the EMD. He suggested the data book name can be confusing for EMD. Michael clarified we mean signal_name and not pin_name in this context. Walter noted pin_name always has to be unique. Michael asked if we can remove the phrase "data book". Walter agreed with this. Bob noted the signal_name is used to describe connectivity. The EMD Pin List can be changed to match the connectivity. Michael asked if we want to say that the meaning of the column entries are detailed elsewhere. Walter suggested to change the sentence to remove "data book", and add a sentence with more description. Randy suggested to provide more detail later in the text, such as on page 7. Bob commented this section is for I/O pins. Randy asked about the parenthetical regarding bus_label, since we do not have bus_label on I/O pins. Walter replied, if the signal_names are the same, they are connected. If they have bus_label, they could be shorted. Bob suggested to break this up into two sentences. Bob also suggested to repeat this in the EMD Pin List. Michael asked if this is the first place we mention the word "connected". Randy replied we define "connected" later. Bob noted we need to define the two meanings of connected. For rails, the meaning of connect is shorted. Walter commented there is only one definition, where there is a low impedance path. While, "shorted" is a technique to short the terminals. Michael noted the the definition of "connected" is on the bin list. Randy asked if we want "connected" in quotes. Michael asked if this is the first instance. Randy replied it is. Michael suggested to have the quotes on the first instance. Randy asked where to repeat the sentence in question. Michael suggested lower in the usage rules of the EMD pin list. Michael asked if we repeated the connected statement and if we want to repeat that as well. Bob noted we are reaching ahead to the EMD model. Michael stated we are simply introducing the concepts. Bob commented bus_labels can be shorted as well. Michael noted we can do more things inside the EMD models. Bob noted, if we are talking about shorting, we need to include bus_label as applicable. Randy noted bus_label is already mentioned. Michael asked, regarding the Designator Pin List on page 13 in the second paragraph, if any of the changes we have made clarify the Designator Pin List. Randy thought this would need more clarification. Michael suggested to simplify and clean up the language related to the word "assigned". Arpad was concerned with the phrase "assigned by". Randy noted this paragraph relates to the issue of hierarchy. Michael asked if we want to say "top-level EMD". Randy replied, no, as the issue is the overriding of the signal_name. Bob noted different vendors would have different signal_names for the component and module. Randy suggested to remove "top-level". Michael suggested to say "associated EMD level". Bob commented this implies there is no constraint to remapping. Randy stated there is no restriction on remapping signal_names across EMDs. Michael suggested, in the last sentence of this paragraph, to move the word "interchange". He also asked about the word "terminology". Randy noted this could be different signal_names. Arpad suggested to change "terminology" to "naming conventions". Arpad asked about the word "reassigned" in the second sentence. Randy suggested to change this to "different". Randy asked if we can remove the comment. Arpad agreed. Michael noted the example needs to be updated with bus_label. Randy and Bob had updated the example and fixed some issues. But, they still need to add comments to this. Michael asked if this will be handled offline. Randy and Bob will add comments to the bus_label example [AR]. Michael asked about the cascading restrictions. Randy replied there is still a comment about this to review on page 35. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be August 26. Arpad moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. ================================================================================ Bin List: EMD Comments to be Resolved: (See BIRD202.1 tracking spreadsheet) IBIS-ISS Parser: - IBIS-ISS parser scope document
