================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org ================================================================================ Attendees from August 23, 2023 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Broadcom James Church* Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak Michael Brownell Keysight Technologies Ming Yan Marvell Steve Parker MathWorks Walter Katz* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield Siemens EDA Arpad Muranyi*, Randy Wolff* ST Microelectronics Aurora Sanna Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Illinois Jose Schutt-Aine Zuken USA Lance Wang* Randy Wolff convened the meeting and took minutes. Michael Mirmak had a scheduling conflict and was unable to attend. No patents were announced. Minutes of the August 16, 2023 meeting were not completed for review. No ARs were recorded from the last meeting. Review of Pole-Residue Proposal, Draft 8: Arpad showed a draft 9 of his pole-residue proposal that is in progress. He wanted to make a few more changes before distributing it. Arpad changed the title to remove "file". The new title is "Standardized Pole-Residue Representation of Touchstone Data". Arpad noted that Touchstone data uses the reference impedance as the normalization factor. Vladimir commented (offline) that in pole-reside fitting the normalization is by frequency. Arpad added that after further clarifications by Vladimir, potential issues with normalization may go away. Arpad noted yellow highlights are questions left for review and discussion. One question is if we should duplicate identical subparameter descriptions or reference earlier definitions for some of the keywords. Red highlight underlined text are new additions in this draft. Vladimir had a comment (offline) that support of symmetry would reduce the number of [Begin Pole-Residue Data] / [End Pole-Residue Data] keyword pairs from N^2. Walter asked how to know if data is pole-residue or legacy data. Arpad said you'd have to read the file to look for one or the other keywords. Arpad noted we would likely have two files with original S-parameter data and fitted pole-residue data. Randy had suggested a keyword that points to the original S-parameter data file from the pole-residue data file. Walter noted he intended to make a motion at some point to allow this and prohibit both types of data in the same file. Walter thought it would be useful to have a keyword in the file for the data type. A unique file extension for the pole-residue data is desired (not .s#p). If the file had keywords indicating the data type and optional pole-residue type, then [Network Data] could contain either S-parameter or pole-residue data. Arpad said he would think about this new idea to understand the complexity of expanding the definition of [Network Data]. Arpad added a statement clarifying that when using [Begin Common Poles Data], indexing is not needed because the set of poles is common to all ports. Arpad noted we need to decide about support of sparse matrices. Randy added that a rule could be established that if any indices are undeclared, they would automatically be assumed to be "0". Bob asked about the equation on page 3, is it specific to Y-parameters given the equation calculates a value for "Y"? Arpad will look into that. Bob asked about the ordering of pole-residue data lines and what data is in each data line. Arpad reviewed the format. Bob asked if complex conjugate pairs are prohibited. Arpad has a statement in the BIRD about this. Bob and James thought the "m" subscript related to "1 to M" data lines was confusing and planned to review this further. Randy added that the Ym(s) equation was not referenced in any of the text. Arpad brought up the discussion point again about adding pole-residue to Touchstone versus in a separate specification. Arpad noted that Michael had earlier suggested that we assume it will be part of Touchstone for now. Arpad added he was writing the TSIRD as if it could be in a separate specification. Arpad will distribute draft 9 when completed [AR]. Bob moved to adjourn. Arpad seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, August 30. ================================================================================ Bin List: 1) [Complete draft Touchstone document separating version 1.0 and 2.0 into their own chapters] - REMOVED 2) Create structures to encapsulate Touchstone 1.0 data in Touchstone 2+ specifications - TABLED 3) Complete draft Touchstone 2.0 document containing TSIRD3 and TSIRD4 draft (Muranyi) – COMPLETED IN DRAFT 10 4) Complete pole-residue format BIRD draft (Muranyi) 5) Complete port naming proposal (Katz) 6) Create alternatives to the Touchstone 1.0 option line before the "R" character - TABLED 7) Complete ISS-IRD 1 Draft - Enable Cascading of S-parameters Through W-element (Mirmak) - TABLED 8) Complete/revise Touchstone 3.0 draft outline (Mirmak) – dependent on several items above Tabled ARs: - Arpad to give an example of the physical connectivity needed for EMD automation.
