================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from September 4, 2019 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the August 28, 2019 meeting. Randy Wolff moved to approve the minutes. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Walter Katz to make the approved changes and send out EMD draft 16. - Walter reported this was done. - Mike LaBonte to send the IBIS 7.0 known issues document to Steve Parker for posting the website. - Michael reported he does not see this on the website yet. We will need to verify this next meeting. Opens: EMD Draft 16 Review: Michael asked about the open bin list item regarding the [Define Module] keyword. Bob replied he would like to defer the discussion on this, as he does not have a proposal on what to rename the keyword. He has a few suggestions, but not a formal proposal. Bob commented, in draft 16, "Electrical Module Description" was changed to "EMD Description". Walter commented this was a global change and was changed by accident. Walter will make the correction from "EMD Description" to "Electrical Module Description" [AR]. Michael asked if the name "Electrical Module Description" has any use in any keywords. Walter replied this is consistent with Electrical Board Description. Bob commented the phrase should be "Electrical Module Description". We have to be careful with EMD not just being a .emd. Randy noted we need to make sure to define the EMD abbreviation on first use in the IBIS specification. Michael asked about the title of the BIRD. Walter thought it is okay. Randy suggested Electrical Module Description (EMD). Michael asked if we are close to starting editorial edits. Walter stated, in his opinion, the technical issues are resolved. Bob commented one technical issue is the extended nets and if each extended net needs its own net name. Walter commented the signal_name will likely be the CAD net name in the EMD pin list and the designator pin list. Bob asked how the connectivity is determined. Walter replied the signal_names match. You may have a case of a series resistor, which form extended nets. We may need some clarifications on signal_name, extended nets definitions, and CAD nets. This is a documentation issue. Bob stated we use signal_name for IOs, and we assume the signal_names for all the modules are the same. He was concerned that the signal_names may be different for different instances in the database for the extended nets. Walter stated he will review what is in the draft and propose a rewrite. Bob suggested we might need a CAD net name to distinguish the names for the IOs. Michael suggested we set a formal date for transitioning to editorial review. Bob suggested it is premature to close out technical changes, as we may find additional technical issues. Bob asked about Table 41, since we defined bus_labels, we should include bus_labels in the table. He suggested to allow bus_labels here. Walter noted these are bus_labels in the EMD file and not in the Interconnect Model. Bob noted this is not clear and there is no reason for this description. Walter noted the EMD does not know anything about what is inside the designator model. Bob suggested bus_labels and signal_names can both be qualifiers. Walter suggested to follow BIRD189 on this. Randy agreed that the qualifiers can be bus_labels and signal_names. Walter agreed this would be consistent with BIRD189, but we should be clear that EMD does not look into the IBIS component. Bob suggested to change the title of Table 41 as it misleading. Bob suggested bus_labels should be added as a Terminal_type_qualifier. Bob commented we need to clarify the interaction with Aggressor_Only of the EMD and Aggressor_Only inside the component. Walter noted it was decided there was no interaction between the two. He does not plan any changes on this. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be September 11. Arpad Muranyi moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. ================================================================================ Bin List: EMD Comments to be Resolved: 1. Should the [Define Module] keyword be renamed? 2. Documentation of CAD nets, extended nets and signal names definitions. 3.
