================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from September 25, 2019 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the September 18, 2019 meeting. Walter Katz moved to approve the minutes. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Michael to draft an email response to the SI-List to let them know we can take up Touchstone enhancements after we finish current work on EMD. - Michael reported this is done, and we can discuss next steps in this meeting. - Walter to change the [Define Module] keyword to [Begin EMD] and send out an updated EMD draft. - Walter reported this was done. He noted Randy Wolff and Bob have sent comments, and he has combined these edits. Michael asked if this will be draft 21. Walter will send out a draft 21 after this meeting. - Randy to put together a stacked die model example for EMD. - Randy reported this is not yet done. Opens: - None. Touchstone Email Draft: Michael reviewed the email which he has proposed to the send as a response to the recent discussion on the SI-List. Arpad Muranyi had sent out feedback with concerns about the passive vs. active behavior. Arpad suggested we should make it clear that we are interested in the other needs of the group beyond the list Michael included. Walter suggested to mention sparse matrix as one of the topics. He also suggested for one other EDA vendors to present on their thoughts. Walter would like to wait to send this email out, until we have a first meeting scheduled. Michael noted the problem with the discussions is that the original intent of touchstone should be preserved. He suggested to remove the sentence about active uses of touchstone. Bob noted we have two different directions, one is to be compatible, and one it to not be compatible. Michael noted we approved some changes in the way of TSIRDs for sparse matrix and binary support. Walter agreed and noted these were approved by the committee but not in an official version. Michael noted the Touchstone discussion on the SI-List has been quiet for the last two weeks. He asked when we want to send this email out. Walter stated he would like to finish EMD in the next meeting and move to Touchstone, and he would like to hear from other EDA vendors on their approach. He would like to have some agreement in this group for the approach to the port mapping. Arpad agreed that they have an approach to the port mapping, and he can discuss it with internal people. Arpad stated the discussion on the SI-List went to a direction of people giving their favorite solution, and he would like to have a more clear direction. Michael agreed, noting he would like to have a structured agenda to focus the discussion. Michael will make the changes to this email, but hold on to it, until the schedule on EMD becomes clear and we have time to discuss more in this meeting. Bob was concerned that EMD could be bounced back from the IBIS Open Forum to the Interconnect task group. EMD Draft 20 Review: Walter shared the latest draft with the changes from Randy and Bob. Walter requested Bob review the document to ensure the changes were what he intended. All the changes were editorial. Walter deleted the sentence: "The component rail identifier signal_name shall be the signal_name defined within the IBIS Component." Randy noted he also added some comments. The first comment on page 2 asked about the requirement locating all the EMD models that include a set of specified set of pins. Randy noted the question was if this should be for the model user or the EDA tool. Walter agreed this should be the EDA tool and user. Walter noted the second comment was on the last requirement. It was agreed to remove the word "former" from this requirement statement. Randy noted page 3 has a comment on the hierarchy diagram. He noted the [EMD Designator Map] does not have an end keyword. Walter agreed we want to have an [End EMD Designator Map] keyword. Walter will add an [End EMD Designator Map] keyword [AR]. Bob was concerned this might be inconsistent. Michael stated the assumption in the past is that a keyword section ends when a new keyword begins. Arpad stated this can make parsing more difficult. Michael asked if the keyword has sub keywords then we should have an end keyword. Walter agreed this is a good approach. The next comment on page 8 is to move the text about extended nets to the bottom of page 7. Walter agreed with this change. The next comment on page 9 is on the EMD Designator Map phrasing. Randy stated he was not sure what the sentence is saying. Walter stated will need to review this and make a recommendation. Walter noted the next comment, on page 13, is to fix the intent of the connection being an aggressor_only. Bob noted this is a technical change, as we do not support pin_name to pin_name connections. Walter suggested to change this to signal_name. Bob stated this would work. The next comment is in the rules section. Bob was concerned that we need to rework this section to make the rules more clear. Walter noted that this was written based on the suggestions Bob had sent. Bob noted there are issues with breaking down bus_labels. Michael asked if these are technical changes. Michael asked Bob to rework the rules in the designator section [AR]. Walter to send out EMD draft 21 [AR]. Michael asked if we can hand EMD off to another group. Bob suggested to keep the review here. Bob suggested to add bus_label in cases where we mention signal_name. He also suggested a formating change to the reference designator mapping syntax. Michael suggested for Bob to make these changes and send this updated draft out. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be October 2. Mike LaBonte moved to adjourn. Bob seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. ================================================================================ Bin List: EMD Comments to be Resolved: 1.
