No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the September 20 meeting. Mike LaBonte moved to approve the minutes. Randy Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Michael to discuss the unused port issue with Radek. - Michael reported this is done, and Radek sent a detailed response which he will ask for permission to send out to the group. - Mike to post BIRD 189.5 draft 8. - Mike reported that this is done. Opens: - Bob noted that he has comments on the draft on some small changes such as removing red text. Arpad also has some comments on the full document, and he sent out a list of items to be addressed to the reflector. Bob suggested to deal with the File_TS changes first. Mike noted that there are also a few items noted with comments in the document. Mike suggested to have these details added to the agenda in advance. - Arpad suggested to add the selection discussion to the agenda as this is a new topic that needs to be addressed. BIRD189.5 draft 8: Bob made some changes to the File_TS rules to move similar items closer together. Mike noted there is a typo in the Terminal line rules section where "to" is misspelled. Bob noted that only the format rules for IBIS-ISS and File_TS are discussed in this section. He pulled out one of the rules regarding references from this section. He simplified the Number_of_terminals rules section. He also added some Number_of_terminals rules specifically for File_IBIS-ISS, File_TS and File_TS0. Arpad asked why File_TS requires at least two terminals. Bob replied that for an S1P file you would have one port plus the reference, and a zero port S-parameter file does not make sense. Mike noted there was an extra period in one of the sentences in the first paragraph of the Number_of_terminals rules section. Bob noted in the Terminal_line rules that he made the syntax a larger font size. In Terminal_number, he added a rule that the number matches the IBIS-ISS terminal position. He also moved the paragraph about Terminal_number for File_TS. In the bullet list, he changed terminal to Terminal_number. He also changed reference to "reference terminal for the Touchstone file". Mike asked if the N for number of ports is defined. Bob replied it is defined previously in the document. Arpad asked why the reference port is described as "undeclared" in the Terminal_number rules. Mike thought "undeclared" might not be the correct word. Bob stated that all voltages are relative to the reference terminal. Michael suggested to remove the word "position" in the sentence "For File_TS, the Terminal_number shall match the Touchstone file terminal (port) position, plus an undeclared reference line, as shown below." Bob changed this sentence to port number rather than position and clarified Terminal_value. Arpad suggested to make the same to File_TS0 paragraph as well. Bob noted that he cut and pasted these sections, and some other changes might be required. Michael asked if these changes need additional review. Arpad asked if we can get draft9 v2 with these changes to review. Bob thought yes, but noted the mark-up view shows a lot changes with sections being moved around. Bob moved to call this version BIRD189.5_draft9_v2. Randy seconded. There were no objections. Bob took an AR to create BIRD189.5_draft9_v2 and send it out to the reflector. Arpad asked about Radek's comments and if Michael can paraphrase them. Michael commented that Radek is looking at a current based analysis, and the default for unused ports should be an open. The model maker should be able to override the default open. Radek's suggestions listed several options for terminating. He also does not like the word "may" in the Terminal line rule text. Bob stated that we removed the Unused_port_termination as there were too many options. Radek has listed several options and prefers the model maker to choose. Bob would like to shift the decision to the EDA tool. This is a key question of who will decide how to determine the termination for unused ports. Arpad asked what context we are talking about for the termination; the case where the terminal is not connected or model reduction. Michael thought we have the case where you have an s50p and you want to use it as an s4p. Radek stated he prefers the user to make the final decision. He prefers to not leave it up to the EDA tool as you might get inconsistent results. Bob stated it is the EDA tool that does the termination for unused ports for Touchstone. Bob asked if we should dictate this or state the options for the EDA tool. Radek called to have a meeting on Friday. Michael stated he will not be able to host. Arpad suggested to use the ATM time slot. Mike suggested for Radek to send out his questions to Arpad to get them on the agenda. Radek will take an AR to send out this text to the reflector. Mike moved to adjourn. Arpad seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection.
