================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from October 11 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki, Ming Yan Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the October 4 meeting. Mike LaBonte moved to approve the minutes. Randy Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Bob Ross and Arpad Muranyi to add the Unused port termination text. - Michael reported we can consider this closed. - Mike to post BIRD189.5 draft9. - Mike reported that this is done. Opens: - Michael noted he will not be available to host the meeting next week. Bob stated he will also not be able to attend. Mike moved to cancel the meeting next week. Bob seconded. There were no objections. Unused port termination: Bob shared his proposed text for the Unused_port_termination subparameter. He noted that this text is not yet incorporated in the BIRD draft. The Unused_port_termination subparameter has two selections, Open and Reference. He added a statement that the expected action is for the EDA tool to reduce the matrix size. There is also a statement that the EDA tool may override these selections, although Radek may object to this statement. Bob noted that Radek had sent out an email with his choices, which would add the ability for the model maker to include per port termination values or a single termination value. Bob stated the rules section defines when the Unused_port_termination subparameter can be used. Michael asked if the parser would read the touchstone file and determine if the Unused_port_termination would be required. Arpad noted we have the Number_of_ports parameter. Bob added that he has assumed that we would not read the Touchstone file, since we have the Number_of_terminals parameter. He is hoping that we do not have to parse Touchstone and ISS files. He commented that Touchstone 1 is a problem, since the parser would have to read the entire file. We have assumed the Number_of_terminals value is correct, but at some point, we could consider linking with the Touchstone parser. Bob commented that in Touchstone 2 there can be differential S-parameters, but he believes the termination and reduction of these ports could be done in the same way. But, we would have to be careful if someone is trying to remove only one of the differential S-parameter pairs. Mike asked about the sentence: "The expected action is to reduce the matrix size by removing all unterminated ports from the matrix that is being simulated.", and if it applies to only the selection of Reference. He also asked if we should be saying what the EDA tool is expected to do. Walter Katz suggested to make the statements about Open and Reference in separate paragraphs. He suggested to remove expected and change it to allowed. Bob thought is OK to say "expected". Bob commented that the purpose of this parameter is to allow the EDA tool to reduce the matrix. Walter noted that the purpose is to eliminate the reflections on these unused ports. Arpad commented that there will be some reflections. Michael asked if this sentence can be removed, as we rarely do this in other contexts. Bob thought that we should include it to clarify the expected behavior of the tool. Michael suggested to replace the phrase "expected action is" with "optionally may". Arpad commented that the phrase "unterminated ports" should be "unused ports". Bob changed the last sentence to say "EDA tools may offer options to the user to override the Unused_port_termination subparameter." Bob moved to add the amended Unused_port_termination text to BIRD189.5 draft 10. Arpad seconded. There were no objections. File_TS0 Additions: Michael asked if the File_TS0 additions are closed. Bob noted that these additions are in draft 9. Michael asked if there is any further discussion needed on these. Walter thought that we can close this issue. Selection Mechanism: Arpad had an AR to write some text on the selection mechanism. He noted that we need to discuss the issue further. Walter asked about the multiple pins in one group issue and if this will be addressed as part of this discussion. Michael noted that this will be our top issue for next time. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday October 25th. Walter moved to adjourn. Bob seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection.
