================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org ================================================================================ Attendees from October 18, 2023 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Broadcom James Church Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Michael Brownell Keysight Technologies Ming Yan Marvell Steve Parker MathWorks Walter Katz* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield Siemens EDA Weston Beal, Arpad Muranyi*, Randy Wolff* ST Microelectronics Aurora Sanna Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Illinois Jose Schutt-Aine Zuken USA Lance Wang* Michael Mirmak convened the meeting and took minutes. No patents were declared. During minutes review, Arpad Muranyi moved to approve the minutes; Lance Wang seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. During AR review, Michael noted that his ARs regarding Sam Chitwood's inductance loop and referencing presentations, plus his AR regarding Pete Pupalaikis's compression algorithms for network parameters, are still in progress. Michael added that he has an AR to ensure Steve Parker is posting relevant documents to the IBIS Interconnect Task Group page. [AR] Arpad noted that his AR regarding research for the phrase "less than allowed" related to noise parameters was still open. No answers were yet available from his colleagues. Bob Ross suggested that, if noise data is no longer used by the industry, we should refrain from changing this section significantly. He added that normalization could present a problem if too many changes were made to this section. Walter Katz suggested that Touchstone 2 could prohibit noise parameters entirely. Arpad advocated for simply leaving the text unchanged. No opens were raised. Michael opened the Touchstone 2.1 draft 2 document to continue the review. Randy Wolff asked whether, regarding normalization for noise parameters whether the existence of two (or more) separate resistances in the examples and potential syntax presents a problem. The equations are not shown. Is the syntax for noise parameters with multiple references broken? Michael noted that the [Reference] keyword is already noted to have no effect on noise parameter data. Bob added that the text could be modified to use "References" with the implications left to the user. Randy suggesting ignoring the issue for the present. The team discussed Examples 19 and 20, concluding that both are completely consistent with each other and the rules in terms of normalization, despite having different noise parameter x5 entries; this is due to the different normalization rules between Touchstone 1.x and 2.x. The team engaged in some discussion about non-comment text being permitted after the [End] keyword; the text currently treats this as an error. Arpad suggested shortening Example 21, as it exists only to illustrate the [End] keyword. This was done. Michael took the AR to check the revised example with the parser. [AR] The team reviewed Appendix A and the use of the term "resistance" as opposed to "impedance", given that the appendix is mostly theoretical. Arpad favored using "resistance", while Bob mentioned using "general impedance" or a similar phrase. Randy noted that "R0" or "Ro" was used in the equations, implying real-only resistance. The team noted inconsistencies in the subscript notation for "mixed-mode" and "standard" in the equations; these were corrected to use lower-case notations in all but one case. Michael took the AR to modify the last remaining equation. [AR] Michael also observed an earlier section where the letter "n" was used inconsistently with previous text. He took the AR to revise this text and send out a revised draft. [AR] The team agreed to review the revised text in the next meeting, with the objective of releasing the document to the IBIS Open Forum for a vote. Arpad moved to adjourn; Bob seconded. The meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be held October 25, 2023. ================================================================================ Bin List: 1) [Complete draft Touchstone document separating version 1.0 and 2.0 into their own chapters] - REMOVED 2) Create structures to encapsulate Touchstone 1.0 data in Touchstone 2+ specifications - TABLED 3) Complete draft Touchstone 2.0 document containing TSIRD3 and TSIRD4 draft (Muranyi) – COMPLETED IN DRAFT 10 4) Complete pole-residue format BIRD draft (Muranyi) 5) Complete port naming proposal (Katz) 6) Create alternatives to the Touchstone 1.0 option line before the "R" character - TABLED 7) Complete ISS-IRD 1 Draft - Enable Cascading of S-parameters Through W-element (Mirmak) - TABLED 8) Complete/revise Touchstone 3.0 draft outline (Mirmak) – dependent on several items above Tabled ARs: - Arpad to give an example of the physical connectivity needed for EMD automation.
