====================================================================== IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ====================================================================== Attendees from October 26 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki, Ming Yan Mentor Graphics Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the October 19 meeting. Walter moved to approve the minutes. Arpad seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Walter to send out edited text on the Aggressors, Terminal lines and Die Pads - Mike noted that it is posted. - Walter commented that he can edit the BIRD document and add the new introductions to the Chapter 12 text. What he sent out was what he wanted to say. He thought there was general agreement on the content but the language could use some work. He will edit the BIRD document to add this text with a pass at cleaning up the language. - Mike to discuss with Walter the naming of "rail" versus "supply" - Mike thought that we need to decide this as a group. "Rail", "supply" and "power" are used in the same context throughout the BIRD, but the IBIS specification is the same way. - Walter suggested to use "rail-supply" and that we should be consistent. Bob suggested to settle on "rail" for this BIRD. Walter stated we can define "rail" as a power or ground for the model_type. Michael noted that we need to clean up the Interconnect BIRD and asked what should be done about the IBIS specification and other pending BIRDs. Walter thought the pending BIRDs should be okay. Mike noted that "rail", "supply", "power" and "ground" all mean the same thing in terms of DC supplies. Michael suggested that for the rest of the IBIS specification we need to do an editorial scrub for consistency later on. Bob agreed. Opens: - None. Terminology List Review: Michael mentioned that he reorganized the list and has noted the number of instances for each term. Some errors highlighted in yellow have been fixed in the upcoming draft 42 of the BIRD document. Some common terms such as buffer have no number of instances, as they are very common. Bob asked about IBIS_File-TS. Michael noted that it has now been removed. Michael added items for supply and rail including upper-case versions. Most major errors for terms that no longer exist have been caught. But, the main problem now is the capitalization and the consistency of the capitalization. Michael noted that Unused_terminal_termination has been changed to Unused_port_termination per Radek's recommendation. He also stated that we will need to go through Walter's introduction. Bob commented that pin is clear, but die and buffer interfaces might not be clear in the IBIS specification. The die interface which we also call pad might cause confusion. Arpad thought that we need to look at the [Series Pin Mapping] keyword, as there is some confusion on whether these are connected to the pins or pads. Michael suggested to add a new keyword for [Series Pad Mapping] to have the naming consistent. Walter asked if we should have a version set specific for Interconnect Models. Michael asked what is the advantage of defining this Interconnect Model version versus using the [IBIS Ver]. He noted that the way we have it now, the [IBIS Ver] is defined in the .ims file. Walter thought it might be useful to do something similar to the AMI Version, but thought we should defer the discussion for now. Interconnect BIRD draft 42: Michael stated that he has marked some comments as done rather than deleting them. He noted that there is still and open issue for Bob and Radek to look into adding some text to the Terminal_number section on page 16 to distinguish between Touchstone and IBIS-ISS implementations. Michael noted that he added some definition text to Terminal_type. Bob suggested that we might consider moving the diagram and table associated with the Terminal_types closer to the introduction to improve readability. Michael asked whether we need a picture with the physical locations of buffer, pad and pin nodes. Walter thought it would be a good idea. Mike commented that it should contain all the keywords. Walter thought we should have a picture of an actual package. Michael said he would look for a public domain picture that could be used. Michael noted that he added text to better define Terminal_type_qualifer, and the rules associated with it. Bob suggested to add pad_names to the list of Terminal_types in the list. Bob commented that we need to change the rule that unused terminals are to be left open rather than terminated with the port impedance. He mentioned that Radek has raised the issue. We should assume no connection and the terminal should be left open. Michael removed the text defining the rule to connect the unused port connection to the reference impedance. Walter noted that it should be left up to the EDA tool to decide what to do with these cases. Michael stated he will have draft 42 posted. Then, Walter will work with that copy to add his introduction text. Mike moved to adjourn. Walter seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection.
