================================================================================ IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP http://www.ibis.org/interconnect_wip/ Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org Archives at http://www.freelists.org/archive/ibis-interconn/ ================================================================================ Attendees from November 29 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark Cadence Design Systems Bradley Brim Cisco David Siadat Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak* Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki, Ming Yan Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield*, Randy Wolff* SAE ITC Maureen Lemankiewicz, Logen Johnson Signal Integrity Software Walter Katz*, Mike LaBonte* Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* University of Aveiro in Portugal Wael Dghais Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin Butterfield took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the November 22 meeting. Mike LaBonte noted that he reduced line length before posting the minutes, as the website has an issue if lines over 90 characters. Mike moved to approve the minutes. Randy Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Bob Ross to create a new baseline draft of BIRD189.5 and send it out to the group. - Bob noted that draft11_v1 has been sent out. - Bob to send out updated text on Pin Mapping/Bus Labels. - Bob reported that this is done. Opens: - None Summary of ATM: Arpad Muranyi made a proposal to change BIRD189 in regards to dealing with the reference connections for File_TS. He noted that in the ATM meeting it was decided to proceed with adding a new Terminal_type named "A_gnd". When the parser sees the A_gnd Terminal_type, it would connect that terminal to node 0. For File_TS, A_gnd would only be allowed for the reference node, while for IBIS-ISS, any terminal could be connected to A_gnd. Arpad stated that he also suggested to add some warning text about using node 0 in power aware simulations. Michael noted that BIRD189.5_draft11 does not include these changes to add A_gnd. Bob commented that the version of BIRD189.5 he sent out was draft11_v1, while Arpad's version should be draft11_v2. He noted that there are some editorial changes to make to Table 41 in regards to the A_gnd proposal. Mike suggested if we can agree on the changes in draft11_v1, we can post it as the official BIRD189.5_draft11. He would like to limit the amount time the current draft is in limbo. Michael stated that all it takes is a motion to post a draft. Mike moved to post BIRD189.5_draft11_v1 from Bob as the official BIRD189.5_draft11. Arpad seconded. There were no objections. Mike will post draft11_v1 as draft11 to the website. [AR] A_gnd Proposal: Bob noted that there are some editorial changes to move the A_gnd text and change Table 41 to add A_gnd as a Terminal_type. Arpad showed the changes made in draft11_v2 for the A_gnd addition. He commented there are two outstanding issues. The first is if node 0 should be allowed on the subcircuit definition line. Arpad noted that some existing Spice simulators do not allow this. HSPICE gives a warning for this, while IBIS-ISS does not prohibit it. He proposed to add an additional rule to prevent voltage source loops. The second issue is whether A_gnd can be used any number of times on the File_TS. Walter Katz thought that IBIS-ISS should have a rule that node 0 not be allowed in the subcircuit line definition. He commented that the rule could also be made in BIRD189. Arpad agreed, and stated his question is on the logistics of where this rule should be. Walter proposed to add the rule to BIRD189 first, and it can be added to the IBIS-ISS specification later. Michael asked Bob to work with Arpad to add this rule to the document. [AR] Michael stated we do not have a change procedure for IBIS-ISS, and asked Mike to add a discussion item to the next Open Forum meeting agenda to discuss this. [AR] Pin Mapping/Bus Label: Michael asked if Bob's proposed text on bus_labels is implemented in the current draft. Bob stated that it is not. Michael stated he would like to entertain motions for having this added to the latest draft. Bob noted he had sent out changes to the [Die Supply Pads] Other Notes section. The purpose of this text is to tie [Pin Mapping], [Pin], [Bus Label] and [Die Supply Pads] together. He noted the text uses the term "entries" to denote the value of the bus_label. Walter stated that he has read this and he agreed with the changes. Walter moved to add the additional bus_label text next draft of BIRD189.5. Arpad seconded. There were no objections. Bob will put the bus_label text into the latest draft along with the node 0 rules from Arpad. [AR] Remaining Issues: Bob commented that there are remaining editorial issues to address. Michael noted that there will be an editorial pass. Walter suggested to discuss the Interconnect Model Groups and Sets resolution next. He requested for Bob and himself to present their sides. He also suggested for Michael and Arpad to work together to set the upcoming meeting agendas and to use time in the ATM meeting to discuss the issue. Bob stated that any resolutions or motions affecting BIRD189 should come out of the Interconnect meeting and not the ATM meeting. Walter agreed this was the best approach, but that it would be good to use time in the ATM meeting to discuss their differing positions. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday December 6. Bob moved to adjourn. Walter seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. Task List BIRD189.5 editorial additions/changes to be completed: 1. File_TS0 and File_TS referencing warning language. 2. Remove the word "reference" from the IBIS-ISS examples.
