Michael Mirmak* Ifiok Umoh Eric Edwards Keysight Technologies Radek Biernacki Mentor, A Siemens Business Arpad Muranyi* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield* Randy Wolff* SiSoft Walter Katz Mike LaBonte Teraspeed Labs Bob Ross* Zuken USA Lance Wang* Michael convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Justin took minutes. Review of Minutes: - Michael called for review of the minutes from the November 18, 2020 meeting. Michael displayed the minutes. Michael noted a typo where the word "change" on line 90 should be "changed". Arpad moved to approve the minutes with this correction. Randy seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Review of ARs: - Michael to review moving the definition of designators to section 13. - Michael suggested to review this live. - Michael to review the EMD bin list. - Michael plans to review this live. Opens: - Arpad sent out a question to the email list. BIRD202.2 draft1 review: Bob asked if we can change the BIRD Number to BIRD202.2. Michael made this change. Arpad asked if we finished discussing all of his comments last time. Randy replied we did not. Michael stated we ended on page 27. Randy was not sure if we fixed the last issue on page 26. Randy asked if we need to change [Define EMD] to [Begin EMD]. Arpad replied this is saying that the signal_names do not have to match and may be different locally. Arpad suggested to change the wording to: "do not have to match". Randy suggested to say "referenced". Michael noted the next comment is on page 27. Arpad stated this is regarding terminals vs. ports. Bob commented this is at one interface. Michael asked if we are referring to the physical connection and if these are considered to be shorted by the tool. Randy replied we are defining what the terminal represents. Arpad commented the confusion is that we tend to use the word "terminal" for different things. Michael asked if terminal has a different definition when we are referring to the terminal lines. Randy replied the terminal line is defining what the model represents. Michael noted on page 25 we define terminal lines and terminals. Arpad commented terminals describe how the nodes are connected. Bob commented we are using the word "terminals" in many contexts. Michael suggested to add, on page 25, terminals are the connection points to other structures defined for each EMD model. Arpad suggested to change the second sentence in this paragraph to "is connected". Arpad asked about the word "structures". He suggested to say terminals are connection points where structures are connected. Michael suggested to list EMD Models and Components as examples of structures. Michael asked if we can have terminals between models. Arpad replied this is illegal in the syntax. Arpad suggested to list the possible structures. Michael suggested to add IBIS-ISS terminals, Touchstone ports, IBIS Pins, and EMD Pins. Bob asked if this is the correct place for this statement, as this is in the Terminal_type associations section. Randy noted this is on page 25, and we start to use the word "terminal" on page 8. Michael suggested to move the first 3 sentences to the introduction and repeat the 2nd and 3rd sentences on page 25. Arpad suggested to add this on page 7. We have other definitions in this section. Michael noted the interface definition refers to EMD model. Michael asked if we can remove the reference sentence and only keep the first interface definition sentence. Arpad thought it is not clear from the definition only. He suggested to list out the boundaries. Michael noted an interface is a group of pins at a boundary. Bob commented it can be a physical boundary, and we could change the word "interface" to "boundary". Randy commented we define interfaces in IBIS Interconnect as pins, die pads, and buffers. Bob was concerned we are meaning different things between Interconnect and EMD. Randy noted we only have pins for EMD. Michael added a sentence: "Interfaces can exist at the EMD Pin List and Designator Pin List interfaces." Arpad suggested to remove the word "can". Arpad asked about the phrase "may be" in the sentence: "Terminals may be at [EMD Pin List] or [Designator Pin List] interfaces." He asked if "may be" should be changed to "can". Bob commented we could have a case of an empty backplane with shorts in the EMD interface going to a reference. Arpad suggested to change "may be" to "exist". Bob commented, from a definition stand point, they exist, but from a modeling stand point, they may exist. Michael to send out EMD 202.2 draft2 [AR]. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be December 9. Arpad moved to adjourn. Randy seconded. The meeting adjourned without objection. ================================================================================ Bin List: EMD Comments to be Resolved: (See BIRD202.1 tracking spreadsheet) IBIS-ISS Parser: - IBIS-ISS parser scope document
