INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS - IEC 62014-3 (ICEM) Integrated Circuit Electromagnetic Model Proposal (formerly, IEC 93/67/NP IBIS and EMC Simulation) - Stephen Peters and Bob Ross still have the action item to review the specification, and Stephen encouraged others to do so as well. Links to the IEMC specification and IEMC cookbook are now on the IBIS website, under the spec link. (After the meeting Jean-Claude Perrin reported via e-mail that the IEC 6204-3 document is available on the web and that his colleague Mr. Sebastien Calvet would like to present at the IBIS summit meeting at DesignCon. Stephen and Bob Ross will add this presentation to the agenda.) - JEDEC JC-16 - Modeling and Testing - No report. - T10, Project 1414-DT - SCSI Signal Modeling (a Technical Committee of the National Committee for Information Technology (NCITS)) - Larry Barnes reported that the technical report passed plenary vote and has been forwarded to Insite for publication. They have also received approval to convert the document to an ANSI specification. This should be completed by the end of the year. Larry also invited all those interested in system level simulation to attend the upcoming T10 project meetings as they will be addressing these issues. IBIS SUMMIT MEETING AT DESIGNCON 2002 Stephen Peters reported on the plans for the IBIS Summit Meeting scheduled on Monday, January 28, 2002 associated with DesignCon 2002 in Santa Clara, California. The IBIS Open Forum is an Associate Sponsor of DesignCon2002. Milt Schwartz sent out the second and third announcements for signup and presentations. The presentations are filled, so we are now interested in signups only for lunch count. Bob Ross reported that we plan the following presentations (titles may change): "IBIS Users Experience", Barry Katz, Signal Integrity Software "A Critique of IBIS Models Available for Download on the Web", Jim Bell, SiQual "IBIS Accuracy at IBM", Greg Edlund, IBM "IBIS Version 4.0 Report", Bob Ross, Mentor Graphics "Connector Specification Discussion", Gus Panella, Molex "EMC Presentation", Guy de Burgh, Innoveda "Lossy Line Characterization and Modeling for SPICE and IBIS" Steve Corey, Time Domain Analysis Systems "JEITA EDA Activity and Proposal", Atsuji Ito, Panasonic "IBIS/XML, Atul Agarwal, Apt Software Avenues "Multi-lingual Modeling with IBIS", Bob Ross, Mentor Graphics "IBIS-ML Futures and Discussion", Stephen Peters, Intel Guy de Burgh and Innoveda will provide the IBIS booth with IBIS member's logos as background. Guy send out a note asking for member company logos on 1/4 inch, 8-1/2 by 11 foam board or to check if the existing one has not changed. One new company provided a logo. Stephen stated that we have booth #704. Stephen will provide Guy with an IBIS write-up for distribution at the booth. Guy will make copies. Stephen also expects to provide IBIS_ML, IBIS Connector Specification, and IBIS Version 3.2 documents for the booth for review (but not for handing out since they are large and also available electronically). Milt is handling the arrangements and National Semiconductor is sponsoring the lunch, free to attendees who sign up. Milt reported that 25 individuals have signed up officially, and Bob expects 40 people to sign up based on word of mouth. Milt plans for about 50 people for lunch. Stephen reminded everyone to sign up so that Milt can have an accurate headcount. Stephen also noted that Fred Balistreri and Applied Simulation Technology will be providing the LCD projector. Free DesignCon2002 exhibition passes are available to interested attendees by signing up through this URL: http://www.designcon.com/2002/promo.asp Bob plans that the Agenda will be sent out by Monday, January 21, 2002 and along with final signup confirmation. DATE 2002 IBIS SUMMIT MEETING Bob Ross reported that plans are underway for a European IBIS Summit Meeting on Friday, March 8, 2002 associated with DATE2002 in Paris France. EADS has joined Innoveda, Mentor Graphics and Zuken in co-sponsoring and funding the meeting. Bob Reported that the Van Gogh/Pissarro rooms (suitable for impressionists) have been reserved again at the Concord Lafayette Hotel next to the DATE show. The first announcement has just been sent for early planning. As before, there will probably be a strong emphasis on EMC/EMI issues. Stephen Peters plans to attend. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE DISCUSSION Bob Ross reported no new models have been received. MAJORDOMO UPDATE Stephen Peters reported that the IBIS e-mail reflector was down due to a hacker attack on the vhdl.org machines over the holidays. This resulted in our FTP site being shut down for a time -- it is now back on line. John Angulo reported slow e-mail reflector response, possibly due to heavy traffic or reconfiguration at the host site at Stanford University. John also reported that messages sent to the ibis and ibis-users e-mail reflectors between December 11 2001 and January 7 of this year were not distributed. CONNECTOR PROPOSAL REPORT Stephen Peters reported on meetings held December 11 and 18, 2001 and January 10, 2002. The next meeting will be held on January 15, 2002. Over the holidays Stephen created a stand-alone specification that documents the Agilent Touchstone(r) format. After review this document will be available on the IBIS website for reference by the connector specification or other IBIS specification. The connector committee is now addressing how feasible it is to expand the proposal to packages. With the addition of s-parameter and frequency dependent matrix support the connector specification could form the basis of a general package specification. There is no decision yet on how this would effect the connector specification itself. There will be more discussion at the next meeting. The connector committee will have a copy of the latest connector specification available at the IBIS Summit for review. IBIS FUTURES REPORT Stephen Peters reported on meetings held December 13, 20 2001 and January 10, 2002. The next meetings are scheduled on January 17 and 24. The committee has been occupied with expressing both IBIS 3.2 and the latest BIRDS in the proposed IBIS-ML language. However, the IBIS-ML specification will not be ready for review in time for the IBIS Summit. Stephen Peters also reported on a new proposal from Mentor Graphics will be introduced at the IBIS Summit Meeting. BIRD73.4 - FALL BACK SUBMODEL Because BIRD73.4 had been discussed extensively in previous meetings, Bob Ross gave just a brief overview of its need and functionality. BIRD73.4 introduces the Fall_back submodel to deal with AVC technologies in a manner similar to the Bus_hold submodel. However, because the action needs to be initiated at the beginning of the control pulse edge, the submodel can only be used for the Driving mode of a driver. It has other restrictions that are documented. The lastest changes have been editorial including some that described the technical operation correctly. Stephen asked for discussion. Lynne Green asked if there were conflicts or restrictions using other submodels with the Fall_back submodel. Bob stated that there were none, and some conflicting operation might be possible. The model developer should use good judgement. This extension along with others are usually targeted for real situations, and Bob was unaware of any situation where there might be a conflict. Stephen added a minor editorial correction (missing "to") in the text that will be added in the approved version. Stephen then called for a roll call vote on BIRD73.4. BIRD73.4 was approved by a unanimous roll call vote of members. Bob will upload BIRD73.4 (with the minor editorial correction) and also upload a new IBIS Version 4.0 Work in Progress document with BIRD73.4. IBISCHK3 & BUG TRACKING STATUS Bob Ross asked Atul Agarwal to investigate and start working on the open BUG reports for ibischk3 Version 3.2.9. Bob expects a few more BUG reports. Stephen Peters asked if this was the last release before IBIS Version 4.0. Bob stated that we do not need to make that decision, but it probably was the last release. ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION Greg Edlund asked what the process is to approve IBIS Version 4.0. Stephen Peters outlined a number of steps for IBIS Committee approval, ibischk4 generation, Committee approval of IBIS Version 4.1 and then submission for a formal letter ballot for ANSI/EIA approval. Roy Leventhal added that he might want to make some editorial comments on pending IBIS Version 4.0 for readability. This can be part of the editorial review process. Greg Edlund asked if laptop computers could be used for the IBIS Summit Meeting at DesignCon 2002. Bob Ross responded yes. Greg can bring his own, although the presentations received early will also be on his (Bob's) laptop. Bob also request foils for backup if we have equipment problems. Finally, Bob noted that he just received an e-mail from Jean Claude Perrin of Texas Instruments in Paris France that Jean Claude was having difficulty in dialing in. Bob forwarded the e-mail to Stephen to check the international dial in processes. Jean Claude reported the possible added IBIS Summit presentation mentioned earlier on ICEM and also of ICEM group participation at the DATE 2002 IBIS Summit Meeting. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be the IBIS Summit Meeting at DesignCon 2002 on January 28, 2002. The next teleconference meeting will be on Friday, February 22, 2002 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM Pacific time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Stephen Peters (503) 264-4108, Fax: (503) 264-1831 stephen.peters@intel.com Senior Hardware Engineer, Intel Corporation M/S JF4-215 2111 NE 25th Ave. Hillsboro, OR 97124-5961 VICE CHAIR: Bob Ross (503) 685-0732, Fax (503) 685-4897 bob_ross@mentor.com Modeling Engineer, Mentor Graphics 8005 S.W.
