Currently, he is working in Roseville, California on analyzing system design issues using external vendor IBIS models. CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak mentioned that Open Forum membership holds steady at 28 organizations. An updated GEIA financial report for November has been received, and shows no change in overall revenue or expenses since the October report. Michael also reported that the 2004 membership drive has already resulted in several renewal commitments from current members and one new member. Bob Ross suggested that invoicing be conducted as soon as possible to give members and prospective members maximum flexibility in budgeting their dues. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS The November 14, 2003 meeting minutes were approved with no changes. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS No additional announcements were made. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Bob Ross noted that Samtec has presented a web seminar on connector modeling technologies, where ICM and IBIS were extensively discussed. A recording of the seminar can be found at: http://www.connectorwizard.com/communication/webinar/home.asp NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No new models received. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No new issues. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross noted that the transition of the IBIS reflectors to majordomo is complete. Reflectors for ibis-bug@eda.org and icm-bug@eda.org have been established (see below). Recovery from the recent mailing list and EDA.org site outage is complete, though some mail messages received during the outage have been lost. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS - JEDEC Activity Report No update - FSA Modeling Committee Lynne Green reported that the Fabless Semiconductor Association has begun a Model Quality initiative within their Modeling Committee and has solicited participation by the IBIS Open Forum's IBIS Quality Committee. Lynne will present to the FSA in San Jose on April 15, 2004. Lynne will provide links and other background information in a future meeting. The Fabless Semicoductor Association can be found at: http://www.fsa.org - Other Activities No update DESIGNCON 2004 SUMMIT PLANNING Bob Ross reported that he had spoken with Brock Silvey of IEC, the organizers of DesignCon. The keynote speech of the conference will take place at noon on February 2, the day of the IBIS Summit. Lunch will be provided from 12 to 12:30 PM that day, with the speech to begin at 12:30 PM and to last 30 minutes. Bob confirmed that lunch is provided to registered participants at the keynote, and suggested that the Open Forum direct Summit attendees to register for the keynote luncheon. Those registering for DesignCon before December 19 receive free admission; prices increase to $75 after December 19. An announcement regarding lunch was suggested for the IBIS reflectors, to be sent out as soon as possible. Michael Mirmak and Lynne Green will discuss the appropriate text of the announcement after the meeting. Lynne commented that perhaps reserved tables might be made available for IBIS, though Bob noted that this may not be feasible with the number of DesignCon participants. Bob observed that Syed Huq was researching refreshment options and would provide an update soon. If hotel refreshments were not available or could not be procured for the Summit, Bob suggested pricing local refreshment service. Michael will report on this at the next meeting. Michael also noted that Panasonic had provided an electronic version of their logo, which will be displayed at the IBIS booth. No other logos have been received in response to the Open Forum request. EUROPEAN DATE SUMMIT PLANNING Bob Ross reported that Cadence Design Systems, Mentor Graphics and Zuken are collaborating to sponsor the IBIS Summit at DATE. A call for papers has already been provided to the IBIS reflectors. Bob noted that the summit will run from 9 AM to 2 PM Paris local time. Six presentations have already been scheduled. Speakers and participants are welcome to contact Ralf or Bob for further details. The Summit will take place on Friday, February 20, 2004 in Paris. IBIS VERSION 4.0 PARSER FUNDING AND STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that a beta release of the IBISCHK4 parser has been received and distributed to parser code licensees. Bob Ross noted that all BUG report issues and new 4.0 specification features appear to have been closed. Without objection, the beta code was approved as the final release of the IBISCHK4 parser. The code must be edited a final time to eliminate any mention of "beta" in the output or source, and to change the version to 4.0.1. Michael will contact the parser developer to execute these changes and distribute the final release. Michael noted that the remaining funds due to the parser developer, Apt Software Avenues Pvt. Ltd., for IBISCHK4 total to US$17,635. This amount has been budgeted by the IBIS Open Forum and the GEIA for 2003 parser development. Michael called for a vote on whether to disburse the funds to the developer. The vote passed unanimously. Michael will arrange for an invoice to be provided by Apt to the GEIA. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross reported that meetings continue every two weeks. Document edits are proceeding. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green reported that no new models have been received by the committee since the last meeting. S2IBIS3 Ambrish Varma reported that he has completed a beta 0.2 version of S2IBIS3 and has posted it publicly. An announcement was distributed to the IBIS and SI-LIST reflectors. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current beta version is appreciated and encouraged. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that the 1.0 parser code and executables have been posted to the IBIS web site on EDA.org. Announcements regarding the release were sent to the IBIS and SI-LIST reflectors. A new electronic mail address, icm-bug@eda.org, has been established to process BUG reports related to the ICM parser. Michael raised the issue of a specification change process for ICM. Bob Ross noted that several names have been proposed for ICM change documents, as the "BIRD" acronym used for IBIS may not apply. Michael suggested that participants interested in proposing a name for the ICM change process send their proposals to the IBIS Open Forum board. A suitable name will be selected at the January 9, 2004 meeting. NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES No new issues. BIRD83.2: SERIES ELEMENT CLARIFICATIONS Michael Mirmak summarized BIRD83.2, an update to BIRD83. Michael noted that several typographical errors in the BIRD text have been corrected. Further, a recommendation is made in the text that, should the BIRD be approved, a BUG should be filed to ensure that the parser properly checks the relationship between [Series Switch Groups] and the function_table_groups column under [Series Pin Mapping]. Michael called for a vote, stating at Lynne's request that the BIRD text is to be included in IBIS 4.1. BIRD83.2 was approved unanimously. BIRD84.1: DRIVER SCHEDULE CLARIFICATIONS Arpad Muranyi summarized the changes made in BIRD84.1. The ordering of the new text has been altered and the meaning of "events" relative to the EDA tool's internal stimulus pattern has been clarified. John Angulo raised some concern regarding c_comp and whether the text changes properly address how c_comp is handled by EDA tools. At present, c_comp is only meaningful within the top-level model of a [Driver Schedule] structure. Once this aspect of the specification was clarified, John withdrew his objection. Michael called for a vote. BIRD84.1 was approved unanimously. It will be included in the next release of the IBIS specification (4.1). BIRD85.2: SLEW TIME CLARIFICATIONS John Angulo introduced BIRD85.2, an update to BIRD85. The revisions now include a more precise definition of the use of R_load. Arpad Muranyi observed that the treatment of [Ramp] in the 3.2 and 4.0 specifications was quite specific -- "The R_load subparameter is required if a non-standard load is used." The current version of the BIRD does not address the fact that R_load is required, but instead states that R_load is optional. The text therefore conflicts with the [Model] definition of R_load. As this effect was not intended, Arpad suggested that the BIRD be rewritten. The current BIRD text was withdrawn from consideration by John. A BIRD85.3 version, addressing the issues above, will be distributed for discussion at the next Open Forum meeting. Arpad and John will meet outside of the Open Forum to resolve all remaining issues with the text. BIRD86: CLARIFICATION OF SUBMODEL MODE Lynne Green introduced BIRD86, regarding modes of [Submodel] operation. The current text of the [Submodel] definition permits [Submodel] modes of "Driving," "Non-Driving," and "All." However, the specification does not clearly state if "All" refers to both Driving and Non-Driving modes of operation. Additionally, the parser does not check for inconsistency between the model type (for example, Input) and the [Submodel] mode. The BIRD is intended for inclusion in IBIS 4.1 Bob Ross expressed some disagreement with the BIRD as written, as [Submodel] has traditionally been more loosely interpreted by EDA tools than the BIRD text would allow. The current BIRD text was withdrawn from consideration by Lynne. She and Bob will work separately to resolve the remaining issues. A BIRD86.1 version will be distributed for discussion at the next Open Forum meeting. IBIS VERSION 4.1 THIRD READING Michael Mirmak announced the third official "reading" of the IBIS 4.1 specification, and called for comments. Bob Ross and Michael discussed how the new multi-lingual extensions were to be included in the 4.1 specification. Bob Ross noted that a separate chapter, 6b, now includes the extensions information. Michael suggested that these should be more closely integrated with [Model] chapter 6, as the information under [Model] is modified by the extensions. Bob proposed that this be deferred until a rewrite of the specification planned for IBIS 4.2. Michael observed that, in order to allow at least three weeks to review the complete 4.1 draft once all open BIRD proposals have been addressed, the final reading and approval vote cannot take place before the Open Forum meeting on January 30, 2004. This assumes that no further BIRD reports are received and that BIRD85 and BIRD86 are resolved during the January 9 meeting. Michael also reiterated his suggestion that, to address BUG80 appropriately, a hierarchy similar to the ICM and unofficial IBIS tree document should be included within the IBIS specification itself. Participants agreed that inclusion of the tree should be deferred until IBIS 4.2 Bob observed that, similar to the tree, the BNF description for the IBIS specification has not been revised since IBIS 3.0. This should be updated, though it may be released only as a separate document. A draft version of IBIS version 4.1 is available on the web. Both an ASCII text and an Adobe PDF version are available at: http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/ver4.1_wip/ Note that the text of BIRD83 and BIRD84 has been included in the latest draft. NEXT MEETING The next Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for January 9, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Standard Time. Votes regarding the approval of BIRD85.3 and BIRD86.1 are scheduled.
