Meeting agendas are typically distributed seven days before each Open Forum. Minutes are typically distributed within seven days of the corresponding meeting. When calling into the meeting, provide the reservation number and passcode at the automated prompts. If asked by an operator, please request to join the IBIS Open Forum hosted by Michael Mirmak. For international dial-in numbers, please contact Michael Mirmak. NOTE: "AR" = Action Required. -------------------------------- MINUTES ----------------------------------- INTRODUCTIONS AND MEETING QUORUM David Lieby, a previous Summit participant, joined the Open Forum for the first time, representing Siemens Medical/Acuson. He has been working with IBIS for about two years. CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak stated that the GEIA had provided financial updates for January 2004 and for the year ending 2003. The 2003 year ended with 28 paid members and income over expenses of approximately $1300. Twelve membership payments were received from January through early March of 2004, with one additional parser licensee. Reminder mailings are being distributed to invoiced members whose payments have not yet been received. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak noted that the previous meeting minutes incorrectly listed Ian Dodd's name. Without objection, the minutes were approved with the noted changes. Michael Mirmak also reported that the Open Forum is using GEIA's approval process for meeting minutes. Minutes will be distributed only after GEIA counsel reviews and approves them. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS No additional announcements were made. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Michael Mirmak observed that Norio Matsui of the JEITA EDA Working Group had forwarded an article from the April edition of EDN Japan. The article described the activities of the Working Group related to IBIS, particularly the use of IBIS 4.1 for consumer applications simulations. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No new issues. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No new issues. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION John Angulo reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. A minor issue has been noted with bounced messages, which are being forwarded manually by the server administrator. Regular "cleanup" of unavailable or incorrect e-mail addresses continues. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS - JEDEC Activity Report Lynne Green reminded the attendees that she and NESA's Ed Sayre will hold a workshop on IBIS through JEDEC from 10 AM to 5 PM on April 16. Registration is available through: http://www.jedex.org The presentation materials will be posted on the IBIS web site after the workshop. - FSA Modeling Committee Lynne Green will also deliver a summary presentation on IBIS model quality at the Fabless Semiconductor Association on April 15. The presentation and brown-bag lunch is open to the public and will be held at: Exar Corp. 48720 Kato Road Fremont, California 94538 For further information, contact Pekka Ojala (pekkao@exar.com) The Fabless Semicoductor Association can be found at: http://www.fsa.org - Other Activities No other activities were noted. DESIGNCON EAST 2004 SUMMIT PLANNING Michael Mirmak reported that all logistics for the summit at DesignCon East 2004 have been completed. Presentations are scheduled from Bob Haller, Lance Wang, Bob Ross and Arpad Muranyi. OTHER EVENTS Eckhard Lenski mentioned that he had informally polled potential participants and presenters for a potential October Euro DesignCon summit in Munich. Responses indicated low interest. Michael Mirmak offered to contact potential US participants and report at the next Open Forum. John Angulo confirmed that he will check the arrangements Mentor Graphics is making for DAC, June 7 - 11 in San Diego. Costs and logistics will be discussed at the next Open Forum meeting. Lynne Green suggested that the first call for papers be distributed in two weeks. IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER Michael Mirmak updated the team on the latest parser plans. A call for parser development bids was distributed in early March. Three serious inquiries have been received, and the organizations interested have been given a specification document describing the parser requirements. One bid has been received, with bidding to close April 30. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Eckhard Lenski noted that the Quality Committee met on March 9. Bob Haller will be reviewing the final Quality Specification at the April 5 summit. Meetings will now be held monthly, with the next meeting on May 4, 2004. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green reported that a new model has been received for review from Motorola in Mexico. The review committee has provided the results of their analysis. Lynne summarized the review process. Models are distributed to reviewers after receipt and Level 0 checks are run under standard EDA tools. Reviewers represent a cross-section of the EDA tool vendor community, and models are presumed confidential. E-mails, usually a page or less, are sent containing a summary of the results. Lynne Green will also consider presenting on the review process at the DAC summit. S2IBIS3 Ambrish Varma noted that Toshiba had recently provided significant feedback and suggestions for improvements to S2IBIS3. These included missing parentheses, clamp tolerances, timing assumptions and loading defaults. Toshiba also matched a SPICE run's output to S2IBIS3 output, with excellent matching. Development also continues on using transient simulations to generate I-V curves, instead of DC measurements. At present, S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current beta version is appreciated and encouraged. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that no changes to either the ICM specification or IBUG reports on the ICM parser have been submitted. One user submitted a question regarding compilation using "bison" which was resolved by using the most recent version. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK SUBCOMMITTEES Michael Mirmak noted that the first meetings of the Futures and Cookbook subcommittees took place on Thursday, March 11. The Futures subcommittee considered six specification changes and split up work on writing up problem statements and proposals for solutions for each. The Cookbook Subcommittee reviewed the 1997 cookbook outline and also assigned individuals to propose changes to cover new features introduced since IBIS 2.1. NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES Michael Mirmak reminded the team that the June DAC IBIS Summit would include elections of officers. Those interested in standing for an office may send self-nominations to Michael for consideration at the Summit. Nominations of third parties are acceptable, so long as the prospective nominee consents to the nomination. Lynne Green noted that the office of Vice Chair would be open at the election. BIRD88: DRIVER SCHEDULE INITIALIZATION Michael Mirmak asked for feedback on BIRD88. No new comments were noted. An approval vote for BIRD88, though permitted under Open Forum rules, has not yet been scheduled, at Bob Ross's request. BUG REPORTS Michael Mirmak reported that the proposed 4.0.2 parser code shows discrepancies between the Microsoft Windows* and UNIX output when run on BUG82's test case. The parser developer notes that this is due to a memory conservation routine intended for DOS and Microsoft Windows* 3.1. This does not occur for compilations using switches for Windows* NT or Windows* 95. John Angulo noted that his previous compilations used switches for Windows 95, while Windows XP and XP Pro use the Windows NT memory model. Michael and John proposed, without objection, that the parser be compiled only with Windows NT options, and that future parser instructions note that the DOS and Windows 3.1 switches are for historical purposes only. Michael Mirmak summarized the latest bug reports, BUG83 and BUG84. Package models without data (only featuring pin names or numbers) are permitted by the parser, even though the specification clearly prohibits this usage. Additionally, use of the [Pin Numbers] keyword without any arguments causes a parser crash. BUG83 was classified as LOW, ANNOYING and OPEN, while BUG84 was classified as MODERATE, MEDIUM and OPEN. The disposition of these in future parsers will be discussed at an upcoming meeting. Arpad Muranyi inquired whether two packages with non-conflicting, independent pin references can be included in the same model with [Package Model] or [Alternate Package Model]. Arpad accepted the AR to check on the parser performance and specification language in such a situation. NEXT MEETING The next Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for April 23, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Standard Time. The next IBIS Summit will take place in Boxborough, Massachusetts on April 5, 2004. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation M/S FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
