CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak updated the team on the current state of Open Forum finances. Membership stands at 17 organizations, with at least eight more renewals required in order to guarantee meeting our 2004 budget targets. Additionally, only two new parser licenses have been sold in 2004 to defray 4.1 parser development costs. Michael urged the attendees to consider renewing their memberships as soon as possible, if they have not already done so. He also encouraged those present to consider purchasing parser licenses or directing those interested in IBIS to purchase licenses. Michael will report on this in detail at the DAC 2004 IBIS Open Forum summit. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak noted that minutes from the May 14 Open Forum meeting were awaiting approval. Without objection, the minutes were approved as written. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq accepted an AR to update the on-line IBIS roster to reflect the current membership by the end of June. Syed will also be removing inactive links and contact information. Syed also reminded the team that major updates were being developed for the web site. He would, however, like new features to be included as the result of user demand. Therefore, he will be creating a poll or other survey to obtain industry feedback on the features most needed by visitors. Additionally, pages associated with the membership and parser information and purchase will be added. Syed will review this plan in more depth during the DAC 2004 IBIS Summit. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No new issues. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS No announcements were made. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No opens were noted. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION John Angulo reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. John accepted an AR to check on the status of the SpikeIndia domain, which has recently encountered problems in receiving reflector messages. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS No new events were discussed. DAC 2004 SUMMIT PLANNING John Angulo reported menu and audio-visual requirements had been resolved with the host hotel. No issues have been reported. Bob Ross noted that 22 registrations had been received. OTHER EVENTS No other events were discussed. IBIS VERSION 4.0 AND 4.1 PARSER Michael Mirmak noted that work continues with the GEIA to establish NDA and licensing procedures Michael Mirmak also updated the team on the latest parser plans. Bidding closed April 30. Three bids have been received and are under consideration. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Robert Haller reported that the Quality Committee continues to develop illustrative examples of implementation of the Quality document and checklist. Robert also noted that some models are already appearing in the industry which make use of the Quality notation. Meetings are held monthly, with the most recent meeting held June 1, 2004. A special meeting will be held on June 15. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE No new models. Lynne Green will present a summary of Committee activities and methods during the DAC 2004 IBIS Summit. S2IBIS3 No updates to S2IBIS3 were reported. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS No new parser or specification issues have been reported. ICM updates are being discussed during Futures subcommittee meetings. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK SUBCOMMITTEES Michael Mirmak noted that meetings of the Futures and Cookbook subcommittees continue regularly. The Futures subcommittee is considering six specification changes and is creating and reviewing problem statements and proposals for solutions for each. The most recent topic discussed was user-definable measurement parameters. The Cookbook Subcommittee has a draft outline for the new document and will be generating text for each section in the coming meetings. Bob Ross mentioned Michael's suggestion to reactivate the Futures section of the web site, and suggested moving the documents now posted there to an "old" subdirectory for reference. NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES Michael Mirmak reminded the team that the DAC IBIS Summit would include elections of officers. Those interested in standing for an office may send self-nominations to Michael for consideration at the Summit. Nominations of third parties are acceptable, so long as the prospective nominee consents to the nomination. John Angulo reported that he will not be standing for Postmaster. Lynne Green has previously noted that she will not be standing for Vice-Chair. Roy Leventhal, Syed Huq and Randy Wolff all reported that they were willing to continue in their current posts, with Syed also willing to accept the Vice-Chair's position. Bob Ross noted that, in the absence of other nominees, that he would be willing to serve as Postmaster. At present, the slate of officer nominations includes: Chair: Michael Mirmak Vice-Chair: Syed Huq Secretary: Randy Wolff Webmaster: Syed Huq Postmaster: Bob Ross Librarian: Roy Leventhal BIRD88: DRIVER SCHEDULE INITIALIZATION Michael Mirmak asked for comments on BIRD88. Bob Ross noted that Arpad Muranyi had pointed out some textual issues in the BIRD, as well as some potential problems with the initialization considtions for [Driver Schedule] states. The BIRD was withdrawn from consideration. Bob Ross will issue an update, BIRD88.1, for the next Open Forum teleconference. BIRD89.1: KEYWORD HIERARCHY TREE Michael Mirmak asked for comments on BIRD89.1. Arpad Muranyi inquired about whether all keyword and subparameter scopes were handled by the BIRD. Michael responded that all specification rules regarding keyword scope were incorporated into the table in the BIRD text. Bob Ross also noted that the traditional change notation of "|**" was not used in the posted version, but can be fixed in the final version used in the specification text. Michael called for an approval vote. BIRD89.1 was passed unanimously and will become part of the IBIS 4.2 specification. Bob accepted the AR to add the BIRD text to the new, draft WIP document. IIRD1: CLARIFICATION OF MULT FOR S-PARAMETERS Michael Mirmak requested comments on IIRD1.1. None were offered. Michael called for an approval vote. IIRD1.1 was passed unanimously and will become part of the next ICM specification. Michael accepted the AR to create a new, draft WIP document. The issue of legal values for use with Mult and Len will be addressed through a separate IIRD. The parser's behavior will also be checked for non-integer, zero and negative values of Mult and Len. BIRD42.3: I-T TABLE DISCUSSION Syed Huq summarized his thoughts on resubmitting BIRD42.3 for consideration by the IBIS Open Forum. Both core power noise and SSN-related buffer power delivery are of great interest to the design community. As BIRD42.3 directly addresses buffer power distribution in an IBIS context, approval of the BIRD would improve SSN simulation in the industry, while also paving the way for a future core power noise simulation method. Bob Ross noted that he will be presenting a detailed background report on the application and limitations of BIRD42.3 at the DAC 2004 IBIS Summit. At a minimum, the I-T tables described by BIRD42.3 must be time-correlated to the buffer V-t tables in the model. Additionally, measurement procedures and inclusion of pre-driver effects need to be clarified further before the BIRD could be approved. John Angulo also noted that several I-T and V-t tables may be required for good correlation,as edge rates tend to slow when voltages (and/or currents) are reduced through buffers. BUG REPORTS Michael Mirmak observed that, with the approval of BIRD89.1, the proper behavior of the parser becomes more clear in cases where keywords are placed outside of their proper scopes. John Angulo noted that the current parser code checks the scope of the keywords involved in BUG80 in numerous places and may require significant work to exhaustively change. John accepted the AR to provide a new error or warning message for BUG80 issues and to check the code for all the locations where relevant keyword scopes are analyzed. The Open Forum will decide, after John's report, whether to report a formal error and, if so, what the error message text should be. The remaining BUG reports have resolutions defined and are awaiting incorporation in the next parser release. NEXT MEETING The next Open Forum meeting will be held at the IBIS Summit during DAC 2004, San Diego, from 8 AM to 5 PM on June 8, 2004. Elections of IBIS Officers will take place at that time. The next Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for June 25, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Standard Time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation M/S FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
