NOTE: "AR" = Action Required. --------------------------------MINUTES----------------------------------- INTRODUCTIONS AND MEETING QUORUM No new participants. CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak updated the team on the current state of Open Forum finances. Several member organizations have announced that they will not be renewing their memberships for 2004. Further, several reductions in force at member companies have thinned the available contacts for signal integrity and IBIS. Membership renewal reminders continue to be sent out by the GEIA, but at least six (6) additional renewals are needed to prevent a budget shortfall for 2004. Attendees were encouraged to recommend new members to the board. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes pending for approval. These included both the June 4 teleconference minutes and the June 8 Summit minutes. Michael noted that the membership roster incorrectly omitted IBM as a paid member company. Further, Bob Ross suggested that Ansoft's representation was incorrectly noted. Michael acknowledged this change and asked for objections to approving the minutes with both changes. The minutes were approved without objection. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES No new press or web updates were reported NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE Lance Wang, the new Librarian, noted that he was working with outgoing Librarian Roy Leventhal to transfer the files and procedures for library maintenance. He also stated that he was checking the active links for the next page update. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Michael Mirmak announced the officers for the 2004-2005 board, elected at the San Diego IBIS Summit: Chair: Michael Mirmak Vice-Chair: Syed Huq Secretary: Randy Wolff Webmaster: Syed Huq Postmaster: Bob Ross Librarian: Lance Wang Michael welcomed the new officers and thanked the outgoing board members. Bob Ross and Michael Mirmak noted two books that mention IBIS. Both were on display during the DAC 2004 exhibition. "The Electronic Design Automation Handbook" by Dirk Jansen, published in July 2003 by Kluwer Academic Publishers, features extensive descriptions of IBIS and the Open Forum in Chapter 17. http://wkap.nl/prod/b/1-4020-7502-2 "The Handbook of Digital Techniques for High Speed Design" by Tom Granberg, published in May 2004 by Prentice Hall, features several mentions of IBIS, particularly in Chapter 21, "Modeling with IBIS," and Chapter 24, "IBIS Modeling and Simulation of High-Speed Fiber-Optic Transceivers." http://vig.prenhall.com/catalog/academic/product/0,1144,013142291X,00.html OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No opens were noted. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. He mentioned some bounces among IBIS reflector subscribers due to a recent reduction in force in one company. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Lynne Green announced that her paper on IBIS Quality had been accepted by the Cadence Users' Group and would be presented in September. DAC 2004 SUMMIT REVIEW Michael Mirmak summarized the DAC IBIS Summit in San Diego. Twenty-three attendees from nineteen organizations participated. Several "new faces" were in evidence. The presentation subjects varied widely, from administrative updates to noise simulation algorithms to proposals for the new web page design. Michael thanked Lynne Green and John Angulo for their logistical help in making the Summit a success. OTHER EVENTS Michael Mirmak reviewed the upcoming IBIS Summit schedule. PCB East is scheduled for October, with a Summit tentatively planned for Monday, October 4. DesignCon 2005 will take place starting in late January, with a Summit scheduled for Monday, January 31. Guy deBurgh accepted the AR to check on his availability for transporting the IBIS booth to the show floor. DATE 2005 will take place in Munich, with a Summit planned for Friday, March 11. Eckhard Lenski reported that no details were yet available, though Ralf Bruening of Zuken will likely handle the arrangements. Sponsorship opportunities for all these Summits are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda and other announcements. Michael accepted the AR to contact NESA to confirm their sponsorship of the October PCB East IBIS Summit. Some concerns were raised regarding attendance, as NESA is physically located in Massachusetts, while PCB East will be held in New Hampshire. Bob Ross mentioned that the EPEP 2004 conference is scheduled for October in Portland, Oregon and that a number of participants in EPEP are also involved with IBIS. The deadline for submissions is in mid-July. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross reported that meetings continue to be held monthly. A special meeting was scheduled for June 15 but was cancelled due to lack of attendees. The next meeting is scheduled for July 6. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green stated that two new models had been received by the committee, but that one may have been intended for private, rather than Committee, review. Both contained double-counting of clamp curves and other problems. The necessary improvements were noted and provided to the authors. Lynne suggested that additional documentation on parser errors was noted in the current Quality document, but should also be included in the upcoming Cookbook revisions. Michael Mirmak reiterated a call for a parser specification which would explain common errors and algorithms. S2IBIS3 No updates to S2IBIS3 were reported. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER Michael Mirmak reported that the board has made a tentative choice as to the parser developer for the IBIS 4.1 contract. However, no official announcements will be made until the terms of the contract are approved by the GEIA. Appropriate communication will be made to each bidder individually. Lynne Green inquired whether the Open Forum should vote on the contract. Michael responded that the Open Forum had to vote to approve the expenditures for payment of the contract. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS No new parser or specification issues have been reported. ICM updates are being discussed during Futures subcommittee meetings. Bob Ross suggested that a "work in progress" draft of the ICM 1.1 specification be prepared to incorporate the approved changes with the usual "|*" notation. Michael Mirmak took the AR to create this document and add the changes noted so far. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK SUBCOMMITTEES Michael Mirmak noted that meetings of the Futures and Cookbook subcommittees continue regularly. The Futures subcommittee is considering six specification changes and is creating and reviewing problem statements and proposals for solutions to each. The most recent topic discussed was user-definable measurement parameters. The Cookbook Subcommittee has a draft outline for the new document and will be generating text for each section in the coming meetings. Recent committee material is being stored at: http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/futures/ or http://www.ibis-information/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES The attendees briefly discussed the requirements for ANSI balloting of the IBIS specification. The GEIA has recently requested that IBIS be approved again as an ANSI specification, similarly to IBIS 3.2. The consensus was that balloting was desirable, but that the procedure and restrictions were not clear to the participants. Randy Wolff took the AR to research the requirements and timeline and report these in the next Open Forum teleconference. BIRD88.3: DRIVER SCHEDULE INITIALIZATION Bob Ross summarized the changes in BIRD88.3 as primarily grammatical, with thanks to Arpad Muranyi for the suggested improvements. No technical changes have been made. Randy Wolff noted that the BIRD text incorrectly identifies the proposal that introduced [Driver Schedule] into IBIS as "BIRD85.3." This should be "BIRD35.3." Bob Ross accepted the change but stated that he would not issue a new revision of BIRD88.3 to address it. Michael Mirmak noted that the BIRD will be eligible for a vote at the next Open Forum teleconference. BUG REPORTS Regarding BUG80, John Angulo reported that the current parser code contained references to "Orphan Keywords" in approximately six locations. John proposed that, with the approval of BIRD89.1, the parser behavior today is technically correct but that the error message of BUG80 is uninformative. John proposed that the text be changed to "A keyword interrupted a preceding component description." Substitution of other appropriate terms for "component" would be used for other "Orphan Keyword" error reports. Bob Ross suggested that, while this change was acceptable, doing nothing was also an acceptable method of dealing with BUG80. John agreed, but would provide the proposed text to the Open Forum for a vote at the next meeting. Michael Mirmak noted that the appropriate language for fixing BUG83 and BUG84 remained to be posted to the BUG web page and took the AR to do so. NEXT MEETING The next Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for July 16, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. A vote on BIRD88.3 has been scheduled. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
