CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak updated the team on the current state of Open Forum finances. Membership stands at twenty-one organizations, after confirmation of payments received from the GEIA. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the August 27, 2004 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. Michael noted that no requests for changes have been received and asked for objections to approving the minutes as written. No objections were raised. The minutes were approved. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES No updates. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE Lance Wang reported that a revised library page has been completed and is ready for posting. Over thirty links have been updated, but no new vendors have been added. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Lynne Green noted that Silvaco has added public links to transistor models in AMS format on its website. She inquired whether references to these could be added to the IBIS Model Library on the web site. Michael suggested that the group needed to decide whether more general AMS industry education and enabling was an explicit goal of the Open Forum, aside from enabling of new IBIS 4.1 features. Bob suggested that a separate section be added to the Model Library with references to the Silvaco models. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES Lynne Green inquired as to the status of XML and IBIS, noting that both Todd Westerhoff and Mike Labonte of Cisco had recently asked about XML support. Michael Mirmak suggested that this topic would be best added to the agenda of the upcoming IBIS Futures Committee meeting. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. A minor delay was noted which affected distribution of the IBIS Open Forum teleconference agenda. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Lynne Green announced that two papers written by her have become available for posting. The first is "AMS Modeling at 5000 feet" while the second is on IBIS quality. Both will be posted on the IBIS website. The 13th Topical Meeting on Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging (EPEP 2004) is scheduled for October 25-27, 2004 in Portland, Oregon. Ambrish Varma will be presenting on SSO issues with IBIS models. Also, the Future Directions in IC and Package Design Workshop (FDIP'04) is scheduled the day before on Sunday, October 24, 2004. See the site below for details on both meetings: http://www.epep.org/ SUMMITS Michael Mirmak reviewed the upcoming IBIS Summit schedule. - PCB Conference East IBIS Summit, October 4, 2004, Westford MA PCB East is scheduled for October, with a Summit tentatively planned for Monday, October 4. Bob Ross noted that the recent calls for papers incorrectly listed the day as Tuesday. The final call for papers and the agenda, scheduled for September 27, will correctly list the date and day. Michael summarized the list of presentations and the team agreed that a half-day summit, held after lunch on the East Coast, would best fit the material. - DesignCon IBIS Summit, January 31, 2005, Santa Clara, CA DesignCon 2005 will take place starting in late January, with a Summit scheduled for Monday, January 31. Michael reported that discussions continue with the DesignCon planners at the IEC. John Angulo noted that the IBIS display booth has been moved to San Jose, California, but that the logo plaques were being stored in Redmond, Washington. Michael suggested that both should be stored with a responsible individual at the same location. - DATE European IBIS Summit, March 11,2005, Munich, Germany DATE 2005 will take place in Munich, with a Summit planned for Friday, March 11. Ralf Bruening of Zuken has kindly agreed to continue in his role of organizer. Further details will be announced as they become available. - JEITA Asian IBIS Summit, Feb-March 2005, Tokyo, Japan Michael reported that a discussion at the JEITA EDA Working Group was held September 8 in Japan, with interest continuing to be high in participation in a summit and in IBIS 4.1. Sponsorship opportunities for all these Summits are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Robert Haller reported that meetings continue to be held monthly, with a focus on maintenance of the Quality Checklist. The most recent meeting took place on September 7. The group is now seeking greater corporate acceptance of the Quality guidelines. Mike Labonte will present on the Quality Checklist at the October IBIS Summit. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green stated that no new models have been received. However, she lost e-mail access for three days and so may have missed requests. If no response has been received to a recent request, please re-file the model review request with Lynne. S2IBIS3 Bob Ross noted that recent traffic on the SI-List highlighted a potential issue with clamp double-counting under S2IBIS2 and possibly S2IBIS3. While the issue is technically a violation of the intent of the specification, negative impact to simulation is unlikely. Lynne Green noted that the current cookbook language on clamp subtraction may also be misleading. According to Lynne, the most common issue seen in models submitted to the Model Review Committe is improper clamp current accounting. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER Bob Ross reported that an alpha release of the IBIS 4.1 parser was approved according to the requirements of the development contract. A beta release is likely within two weeks, which will be used to help clarify remaining specification issues, especially involving reserved and unreserved port naming rules. IBIS ANSI BALLOT STATUS Randy Wolff stated that no cost is associated with ANSI ballots through the GEIA. No barrier therefore exists to reballoting IBIS 3.2 and, at a later date, balloting IBIS 4.1 or a subsequent version. Randy moved that IBIS 3.2 be submitted to the GEIA for reballoting. The motion was seconded and the members present unanimously approved the motion. Randy will resolve any remaining questions directly with the GEIA. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak deferred discussion of this topic to the technical portion of the agenda. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that both the Futures and Cookbook Committees are continuing to meet during a shared time every two weeks. The Cookbook Committee recently discussed additional changes to chapter 4 of the draft IBIS 4.0 cookbook, which covers forming silicon data into an IBIS file. The Futures Committee discussed current IBIS 4.1 parser issues and also reviewed a proposal from The Mathworks, Inc. to standardize the AMP specification. While no immediate applications of AMP to IBIS-related design tasks were apparent, the team recommended that The Mathworks hold a separate discussion, announced through the industry reflectors, with tool vendors and other users who might be interested. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES No new administrative issues were raised. BIRD90.1: MULTIPLE A_TO_D SUBPARAMETERS CLARIFICATION Bob Ross summarized the changes in BIRD90.1. The BIRD adjusts language in the IBIS specification relating to how SPICE digital I/O conversion is performed. The BIRD text now removes "port_name" as a reference to port descriptors. Bob stated that, as many issues related to ports under IBIS 4.1 are still under discussion, this BIRD should be kept open until a later date. BIRD91: MULTI-LINGUAL LOGIC STATES CLARIFICATION Ian Dodd and John Angulo introduced BIRD91. The BIRD clarifies the exact logic states required on the D_receive and D_drive ports used for multi-lingual model descriptions. Further, analog ports are limited to electrical natures, and language types for analog ports must be part of the STD1164 definition. Bob Ross commented that several stylistic issues exist in the BIRD, particularly regarding the usage of D_switch. He will consult with Ian and John offline, and a revised BIRD may be issued to address these concerns. IIRD4.1: REMOVAL OF EXTRANEOUS ARGUMENT FOR [END ICM SECTION] KEYWORD Kelly Green summarized the changes to IIRD4, part of a series of IIRDs to align the specification with the parser. The BIRD now removes any reference to version-specific parsing of an argument to the [End ICM Section] keyword. As a result, any such argument present in an ICM file will be flagged as an error. Bob Ross suggested that the BIRD itself add language to the specification noting that the original argument was erroneous and has been removed. Bob and Kelly will discuss offline whether a new IIRD4.2 is required. IIRD5: REMOVAL OF RECOMMENDED LINE LIMITS Kelly Green explained the purpose of IIRD5, which removes language from the specification limiting the length of keyword lines within the header. As the parser does not check these lengths and no reason exists to limit the lengths, the requirement should be removed. No objections were noted. IIRD6: [TREE PATH DESCRIPTION] REQUIRES TWO PINMAPS Kelly Green summarized IIRD6. At present, ICM requires at least one pinmap to be defined for each [Tree Path Description]. Kelly believe this to be ambiguous and suggests that two pinmaps be required. This would force single-ended interconnects, such as terminators, to be described using nodal rather than tree path formatted descriptions. Bob Ross observed that this may not be an acceptable solution and that significant debate on this issue had taken place in private messages. He noted that an IIRD8 is in development which will supplant IIRD6 and require specific names for pinmaps if more than one is present, to prevent confusion. This will also assist in integrating IBIS and ICM. With Kelly's assent, Bob recommended that IIRD6 be rejected with the relevant discussion focused on IIRD8. IIRD7: CLARIFICATION OF OFF-DIAGONAL MATRIX TERMS Michael Mirmak briefly summarized IIRD7. The text resolves a misunderstanding in the current ICM specification regarding off-diagonal resistance elements. Such elements, to be consistent with industry usage, should have the units of ohms and express the relationship between current on one conductor and voltage on another. Therefore, zero ohm element values mean no coupling and no relationship between the conductors exists in resistance terms. Today, the specification makes several contradictory statements regarding the meaning of these off-diagonal elements. Bob Ross expressed concern regarding statements advising model authors to exercise caution when creating models which might have off-diagonal resistance elements. Michael noted that this was to avoid making statements requiring specific EDA tool treatments of ICM data. Bob and Michael will resolve this issue offline. BUG REPORTS Due to lack of time, no discussion was held. John Angulo will propose a formal resolution to BUG80 at the next Open Forum meeting. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES No new issues raised. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Summit will be held October 4, 2004. A teleconference has been arranged. An Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for October 8, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
