CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak updated the team on the current state of Open Forum finances. Membership stands at twenty-two (22) organizations after new confirmation of payments received from the GEIA. Bob Ross requested that a discussion be held later in the meeting regarding budgeting for 2005. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the September 17, 2004 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. Michael noted that no requests for changes have been received and asked for objections to approving the minutes as written. No objections were raised. The minutes were approved. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq and Bob Ross reported that the EIGROUP IBIS web site was down, but that the EDA sites were still functioning. No data was available from the GEIA on when the site would be restored. Bob Ross noted that a Russian article involving high-speed simulation and ICM was published in 2003. Machine translation provided some of the basic details on the work. The original paper, in Russian, can be found at: http://dbserv.ihep.su/~pubs/prep2003/ps/2003-30.pdf NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No new models have been received, and no links updated since the last report. ANNOUNCEMENTS/OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No update. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Bob Ross noted that the Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging meeting (EPEP 2004), scheduled for October 25-27, 2004 in Portland, Oregon, will feature a discussion on a new macromodeling approach to avoid SSO problems under IBIS on Sunday, October 24. Several IBIS participants were trying to make arrangements to attend. See the site below for details on both meetings: http://www.epep.org/ SUMMITS - PCB Conference East IBIS Summit, October 4, 2004, Westford MA Michael Mirmak summarized the PCB East summit. Twelve attendees from eight organizations took part, with presentations on SSO issues, IBIS organization, Quality, and C_comp adjustment. Michael extended thanks to Syed Huq for logistical arrangements and to NESA's Kathy Breda for help in hosting the East Coast participants. - DesignCon IBIS Summit, January 31, 2005, Santa Clara, CA DesignCon 2005 will take place starting in late January, with a Summit scheduled for Monday, January 31. Michael reported that the contract agreement with the IEC covers all logistics, including a luncheon during the keynote address. Refreshments are still under investigation. John Angulo took the AR to determine if someone from Mentor would be able to disassemble the booth after the show. - DATE European IBIS Summit, March 11, 2005, Munich, Germany DATE 2005 will take place in Munich, with a Summit planned for Friday, March 11. Ralf Bruening of Zuken is making arrangements for the room and other logistics. - JEITA Asian IBIS Summit, Feb-March 2005, Tokyo, Japan No update, as the team is awaiting confirmation of dates from JEITA. Sponsorship opportunities for all these Summits are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross noted the Quality Checklist presentation at the recent IBIS Summit, and reported that the Committee is working with a semiconductor vendor to include Checklist verification in its public models. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE No new models have been received. S2IBIS3 No updates. Bob Ross stated, in response to an earlier discussion regarding clamp-subtraction algorithms, that NCSU is under no requirement to update existing S2IBIS2 code. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER Bob Ross reported that a beta release of the IBIS 4.1 parser has been completed and approved. Michael Mirmak confirmed that parser licensees have received the beta code. Several major issues gating parser development have been resolved with the help of the Futures Committee, and final code development is on-schedule, pending resolution of Open Forum financial issues. IBIS ANSI BALLOT STATUS Randy Wolff observed that PINS forms were being prepared for IBIS 3.2 reballoting, as well as future IBIS 4.2 and ICM 1.1 balloting. When completed, the GEIA will handle actual ballot distribution. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that IIRD specification updates continue to be received. No parser activity is expected until all pending IIRDs have been resolved. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that both the Futures and Cookbook Committees held meetings on Thursday, October 7. The Cookbook Committee continues to revise the IBIS 4.0 draft cookbook document and focused recently on the proper description of parasitic and ESD diode components. The Futures Committee recently discussed and closed a variety of open issues related to multi-lingual extensions and the use of user-defined analog and digital ports. Upcoming topics include ICM to IBIS 4.x interfacing for package model descriptions. The Futures Committee is also expecting a proposal from Cisco Systems on SSO and core power modeling for its next meeting. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES Bob Ross raised questions concerning the 2005 budget. Presently, the Open Forum is below its target number of members for the year (23 as opposed to 25). Additionally, not enough parser license fees exist in the budget to cover current parser contract costs. Michael Mirmak acknowledged these issues, and reported that a new budget was being prepared with a smaller assumed member base and with no funds allocated for post-4.1 parser development in 2005. Assuming that the EIA portion of the IBIS Open Forum income remains a stable percentage, the 2004 deficit can be minimized and no deficit will exist in 2005. Bob noted that raising membership dues was not likely to be accepted as an alternative. Michael agreed and emphasized the need to demonstrate value for membership dollars in Open Forum activities. BUG REPORTS John Angulo summarized his proposed resolution to BUG80: do nothing. As it stands, the specification keyword hierarchy and ordering will be clarified by BIRD89.1. There are also too many dependencies on keyword order to be easily included in a simple parser revision. The current language suffices to identify an incorrect ordering of keywords. No objections were raised to this solution. Bob Ross and Michael Mirmak will close the BUG80 report on the web site. BIRD90.2: MULTIPLE A_TO_D SUBPARAMETERS CLARIFICATION Bob Ross summarized the changes to BIRD90.2. The new text corrects an erroneous reference to "port_name." No other changes have been made or proposed. The BIRD is ready for a vote at the next Open Forum teleconference. BIRD91.1: MULTI-LINGUAL LOGIC STATES CLARIFICATION John Angulo summarized the changes to BIRD91. Corrections were made to ensure that D_switch was properly included both for [External Model] and [External Circuit]. Additionally, the type and value restrictions on reserved ports were clarified. Bob Ross noted that the language proposed for the [External Model] and [External Circuit] portions of the IBIS specification is the same. He suggested that the new passages be consolidated for inclusion at the beginning of the multi-lingual section of the document. John Angulo agreed to draft an update to the BIRD which consolidates the language. IIRD8: DISTINCT MODEL_PINMAP AND MODEL_NODEMAP NAMES Bob Ross presented IIRD8. The proposed changes demand unique pinout descriptions at the beginning and end(s) of interconnects under both the [Tree Path Description] and [Nodal Path Description] keywords. This also enables potential links between ICM and IBIS in the future. No issues or objections were raised to IIRD8 during the meeting. Bob noted that IIRD8 assumes that IIRD6 will be rejected. IIRD7.1: CLARIFICATION OF OFF-DIAGONAL MATRIX TERMS Michael Mirmak summarized the changes in IIRD7.1. The text now eliminates mention of "model authors" and uses the word "zero" rather than "0.0" or other numeric variants to describe the resistance matrix values of short-circuits on the diagonal or no-coupling data on the off-diagonals. No objections were raised to the changes. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES No new issues raised. NEXT MEETING An Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for October 29, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. Votes will take place on BIRD90.2, IIRD4.1, IIRD5, IIRD6, IIRD7.1, and IIRD8. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
