CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak reported that he is in discussions with GEIA on the proposed budget for 2005. There is a GEIA board meeting next week, and they are expecting projections of membership numbers for next year. There are 23 members this year including one late join with 12 member commitments already for next year. The GEIA has expressed a desire for memberships to increase for 2005, so the target is 29-30 members for 2005. Along the lines of budgeting, GEIA is not looking at distinct line items anymore except for committee meetings like summits and other miscellaneous expenditures. Michael also reported that we are under budget for the year. The question arose of should we consider raising membership dues? Michael was not in support of this. Bob Ross opposed this as well, pointing out that IBIS draws large and small companies, and many small companies can not afford to pay increased membership costs. Lynne Green suggested considering charging for lunch at summit meetings. Another question also arose of how to make membership more attractive, because membership dues don't get you much over and above what you get off the website. It was suggested that limiting some content to members such as access to the cookbook would give a more tangible benefit. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the October 4, 2004 Summit and the October 8, 2004 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. Randy Wolff noted that Lance Wang's contact information incorrectly showed CA instead of MA in the address. This error will be updated in future IBIS minutes. The minutes of both meetings were approved with the noted editorial comments. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq reported that the events page has been updated. Also, the FAQ page was updated regarding a cut and paste error pointed out by Mathworks. Syed is waiting for update info on new members to update their contact information. It was mentioned that there needed to be further discussion at a later time about ideas for updating the site to create member and non-member areas. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No new models have been received, and no links have been updated since the last report. ANNOUNCEMENTS/OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES No update. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that the reflectors are operating normally and that no major outages have been noted. Michael Mirmak mentioned a proposal to post links to email archives on the website. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Bob Ross reported on the Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging meeting (EPEP 2004), held October 25-27, 2004 in Portland, Oregon. Bob attended the modeling meeting where there was much academic interest in modeling formats using neural network concepts. There was much discussion on how to make a new format popular. IBIS was mentioned as a popular standard to look at. There was also a presentation on power distribution network modeling issues that was an outgrowth of a DesignCon paper on I-t tables for IBIS models. Eckhard Lenski mentioned that a proposal on some multi-lingual modeling seemed to fit nicely with IBIS 4.1. Michael Mirmak reported that he will be attending an IEEE DASC committee meeting Nov. 12 in San Jose at Mentor Graphics. He will be discussing links between IBIS and multi-lingual extensions. SUMMITS - DesignCon IBIS Summit, January 31, 2005, Santa Clara, CA DesignCon 2005 will take place January 31 - February 3, with a Summit scheduled for Monday, January 31. John Angulo reported that he is still in the process of making arrangements for the IBIS booth. He will be able to get the booth setup, and another Mentor representative will take care of it the rest of the time. - DATE European IBIS Summit, March 11, 2005, Munich, Germany DATE 2005 will take place in Munich, with a Summit planned for Friday, March 11. Ralf Bruening of Zuken is making arrangements for the room and other logistics. - JEITA Asian IBIS Summit, Feb-March 2005, Tokyo, Japan JEITA members are still in the planning stages. Nothing new to announce. Sponsorship opportunities for all these Summits are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS ANSI BALLOT STATUS Randy Wolff reported that Michael Mirmak had proposed changes to the descriptive sections of the Project Initiation Notification System (PINS) forms. These were made, and the PINS forms were approved by Michael and forwarded to Chris Denham of the GEIA to begin the balloting process. Balloting should start next week once the GEIA budgeting is completed. S2IBIS3 STATUS No updates. Michael Mirmak mentioned that S2IBIS2 1.1 is the most prevalent tool currently being used, so hopefully use of version 3 picks up. S2IBIS3 beta executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm Feedback on the current version is appreciated and encouraged. IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that the beta version is done and available to parser purchasers. Finishing the parser will involve creation of a validation suite to check out the new changes. This is expected to be completed in the early part of next year. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS No update was available from Kelly Green. Parser development is on hold until all recent IIRDs are taken care of. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE No update available. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green reported that a new model had been received. The model creator was informed of errors, these were fixed, and the new model was sent out to other committee members. Lance Wang mentioned that he had not received the model, and Lynne found that he was not on her distribution list. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that a meeting was held last Thursday. The Futures committee discussed IBIS 4.1 tweaks to multi-lingual extensions. This may result in a future BIRD. Potential methods for linking ICM and IBIS were discussed and will need BIRDS as well. A differential section in the latest draft of the cookbook is taking shape. The [Series element] keyword section is also done. The largest section in need of editorial fixes is the differential section. The cookbook should be finished early next year. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES None. BIRD90.2: MULTIPLE A_TO_D SUBPARAMETERS CLARIFICATION There were no changes to report. John Angulo called for a vote. The BIRD was approved unanimously by the members present. BIRD91.2: MULTI-LINGUAL LOGIC STATES CLARIFICATION John Angulo summarized BIRD91.2. It consolidates text for [External model] and [External circuit] keywords into single description above those keywords. The text was also reworded slightly to flow better. The BIRD addresses the problem that tools need to know allowed states of digital ports and analog ports. The language may need to be changed in the future to mention compatibility with future versions of Verilog AMS. The BIRD will be scheduled for a vote at the next meeting. IIRD4.1: REMOVAL OF EXTRANEOUS ARGUMENT FOR [END ICM SECTION] KEYWORD Michael Mirmak summarized the IIRD. It removes a text string argument that was a mistake in the 1.0 ICM spec. A vote was called for. The IIRD was approved unanimously by the members present. IIRD5: REMOVAL OF RECOMMENDED LINE LIMITS Michael Mirmak summarized the IIRD. Currently, there is a line limit recommendation for the disclaimer and redistribution text. However, the line length limits are not enforced by the ICM parser, so they should be removed from the specification. A vote was called for. The IIRD was approved unanimously by the members present. IIRD6: [TREE PATH DESCRIPTION] REQUIRES TWO PINMAPS Michael Mirmak summarized the IIRD. The parser looks for pin descriptions for both ends of tree paths. Bob Ross recommended rejection of IIRD6 in favor of IIRD 8, which provides better links between ICM and IBIS. A vote was called for. The IIRD was rejected by a vote of 5 to 1. IIRD7.1: CLARIFICATION OF OFF-DIAGONAL MATRIX TERMS Michael Mirmak summarized the IIRD. It fixes the language of off-diagonal matrix terms in relation to resistance matrices. Descriptive text is added. This specifies zero in a diagonal means ideal short and in an off diagonal means no coupling. This language is consistent now with the rest of industry. If something is not listed, it is assumed to be zero. A vote was called for. The IIRD was approved unanimously by the members present. IIRD8: DISTINCT MODEL_PINMAP AND MODEL_NODEMAP NAMES Michael Mirmak summarized the IIRD. The proposed changes demand unique pinout descriptions at the beginning and end(s) of interconnects under both the [Tree Path Description] and [Nodal Path Description] keywords. Arpad Muranyi questioned whether this is the most efficient method of creating pinout descriptions for large models. It was decided to defer the vote until the next meeting. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES No new issues raised. NEXT MEETING An Open Forum teleconference has been scheduled for November 19, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
