CALL FOR PATENTS Syed Huq called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.0 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Syed Huq reported that the GEIA has received a payment from Teraspeed. Bob Ross said that this brings the paid and confirmed memberships to 22. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Syed Huq reviewed the minutes of the March 11, 2005 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. Bob Ross pointed out that four names in the teleconference minutes were misspelled. These will be changed in the uploaded version. Syed also reviewed the minutes of the March 11, 2005 European IBIS Summit. The minutes of the meetings were approved with the noted spelling changes. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq had no update. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE Syed Huq reported for Lance Wang that Lance ran through all the model links and fixed/updated some links. The links should update within a few days. No new links have been added. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Syed Huq reported that he will be chairing the meetings through the end of May while Michael Mirmak is on sabbatical. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES Bob Ross asked that an update from John Angulo be given on the booth. John Angulo asked for a discussion on Quality Committee documents being moved to a more neutral location. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross had no update. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Bob Ross made an announcement about the 9th IEEE Workshop on Signal Propagation on Interconnects May 10-13, 2005. C. Kumar is scheduled in Session 9. His talk is entitled "Behavior MacroModels Using Circuit Templates." More information about the workshop can be found at the link below: http://www.spi.uni-hannover.de/ Arpad Muranyi reported that he attended the VHDL-AMS meeting at DATE. There were about 20 people present. Attendees were very interested in seeing what IBIS is and how the VHDL-AMS language is being incorporated into IBIS. Three main items were discussed at the meeting. They were retriggerable functions, language translation, and table model functions. It was suggested by the VHDL-AMS working group members that the presentation be repeated at a meeting in the U.S., since many U.S. members could not attend this European meeting. Bob mentioned that this would be at DAC. SUMMITS - DATE European IBIS Summit, March 11, 2005, Munich, Germany Bob Ross reported that Ralf Bruening delivered a positive report and looked forward to a meeting again next year. Bob mentioned that the meeting will be held in Munich again next year. Arpad Muranyi called into the Open Forum teleconference after the meeting. He mentioned that calling into the Friday Open Forum teleconference was difficult for European participants, because the time is the beginning of the weekend. We might want to consider moving the teleconference at some point. - JEITA IBIS Event - Japan, March 24, 2005, Tokyo, Japan Syed Huq reported that Michael Mirmak, Syed Huq, and Lance Wang attended. There were over 40 attendees, and participation was limited to two representatives per company. In the morning session, IBIS Open Forum members gave three presentations. Another presentation was given in the afternoon. Three other presentations discussed EMI, Power Integrity, and Signal Integrity technology developments. It was a very organized meeting. There were a lot of questions and interest in IBIS. EETimes Japan also attended the meeting. JEITA is hoping to continue collaborating with the IBIS Open Forum. Bob Ross mentioned that presentations will be uploaded at some point in the future. Lance saw the need to establish relationships with "local" SI/Electrical Engineering Associations in China, Korea, Hong Kong and India, etc. This would give us an easy access to have local IBIS Summits there as shown at the JEITA-IBIS joint meeting this time. - DAC IBIS Summit, Tuesday, June 14, 2005, Anaheim, CA Bob Ross reported that DAC will be held in Anaheim, California from June 13-17, 2005. John Angulo reported that Mentor should get a room reserved next week. The IBIS Summit meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14. DAC has a free day on Monday. This is the election of officers meeting as well. - DesignCon East IBIS Summit Bob Ross mentioned that SiSoft will probably be organizing this meeting. A discussion on the IBIS booth ensued. John Angulo said that Ian Dodd is taking physical possession of the booth and plaques in Longmont, CO. Now it can be shipped to any Mentor office easily. It should now be available for anywhere we need it. Sponsorship opportunities for DAC are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS ANSI BALLOT STATUS Randy Wolff reported no new update. S2IBIS3 STATUS Bob Ross reported no new update. The executable has been uploaded. S2IBIS3 V1.0 executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER STATUS Bob Ross reported that the parser has been released, and a BUG was discovered. This will be discussed later in the meeting. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS No update from Lynne Green. Bob Ross talked about licensing status. Kelly Green developed the parser under a GNU public license, and Kelly wants to turn over the work entirely to the IBIS committee so that he is not managing it. The parser is uploaded as freeware, so no commercial company can do anything with it as far as integrating it into their tools. So, there is a need for licensing it for a cost. There will be a licensing fee proposed of probably $1000 for the right to use the code. Bob Ross requested that this issue be dealt with further when Michael Mirmak returns. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross reported a meeting was held March 8, and the next one is April 15. Final specification work is being done. John Angulo mentioned that the link to the Quality Committee documents is stored on the SiSoft website. It is desirable to have the documents in as vendor-neutral a place as possible. It is possible to move some documents to eda.org or to move an advertising sidebar on the current page on the SiSoft website. Bob Ross recommended that a duplicate work in progress site be put together on the eda.org website. IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE No update. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Syed Huq reported that the next meeting is April 7. Arpad Muranyi mentioned that the Cookbook will not be completed until Michael Mirmak returns. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES None to report. BIRD94.1: CLARIFICATIONS ON [DIFF PIN] PARAMETERS Arpad Muranyi summarized the BIRD. Clarifications on text and removal of conflicts in the [Diff Pin] parameters are the only items in the BIRD. New examples are also included. Arpad's intention is not to change any rules. Bob Ross requested more time to analyze this BIRD. More discussion will ensue at the next meetings. BIRD95.3: POWER INTEGRITY ANALYSIS USING IBIS Syed Huq mentioned that new keywords have been added: [R Equiv], [L Equiv], [C Equiv], and [G Equiv]. A new tree diagram was added to show where the four new keywords exist in the specification. Many points have been clarified in terms of model support. Arpad Muranyi asked about [Power Clamp Reference] and [GND Clamp Reference] terminals. The RLGC elements are not currently allowed to connect to these. Itzik Peleg mentioned that the clamp currents will not effect SSO. Arpad thinks that on-die terminations that would connect to power and ground clamp references could cause significant power supply noise that would be effected by the on-die decoupling, so this should be considered. Bob Ross mentioned that you could model the RLGC connections through the series keywords already available. Arpad mentioned that perhaps these parameters should be more pin specific and not buffer specific, due to the difficulty of measuring these parameters in the lab. Syed requested that more discussion continue later. Bob suggested this be done at the Futures meeting. BIRD97: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Arpad Muranyi said that much discussion on this topic occurred at the DATE Summit meeting. Feedback was that the way the BIRD is written now, it may not be that accurate. A higher level equation may need to be included. Arpad mentioned that Katja Koller had presented an equation on the reflector. Arpad's feedback on the equation is that the data can not be shared due to legal reasons. Also, the equation is good for CMOS technologies, but it may not be accurate for other technologies. Arpad suggested maybe including a table of scaling coefficients for different supply voltages. Bob Ross asked what improvement you would gain from going to a non-linear scaling equation. Arpad said this will need to be looked into further. Bob suggested that maybe an equation could be included just for CMOS technologies. IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS Bob Ross reported that version 4.1.0 has a BUG due to the BUG82 fix not being included in the parser. This is due to the old baseline code being used to start the new parser development that did not include the fix. A fix will be implemented shortly. This new BUG is labeled BUG87 and will be classified as moderate, high, and open. Bob will work with John Powell and John Angulo to get this fixed. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS None to report. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held April 22, 2005 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. The meeting will be chaired by Syed Huq. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
