MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Syed Huq reported that we have a total of 26 confirmed members. We need to check on a few more member renewals in order to meet our budget for the year. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Syed Huq reviewed the minutes of the April 22, 2005 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. The minutes of the meeting were approved without changes. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq reported that the roster was updated with several entries. There will be new logo updates in the poster as new members join. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No update. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Syed Huq reported that he will be chairing the meetings through the end of May while Michael Mirmak is on sabbatical. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES None. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that everything is operating normally. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Lynne Green reported on the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) meeting. There was a presentation by the Device Technology Council, a subgroup of the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) on a process for developing transistor models that are more accurate. SPICE models and silicon performance are differing by a factor of two below the 90nm process node. A member of the Si2 group will be at the DAC Summit and will present on modeling challenges and what is driving them to take this project forward. Ian Dodd mentioned that Si2 is holding a meeting at DAC that deals with the same materials as at the FSA meeting. This is an open meeting, and Ian plans to attend. Bob Ross discussed some pending standards under consideration by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) under the technical committee TC47. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.iec.ch The two standards are: IEC62404 I/O Interface Model for Integrated Circuits (IMIC) as 47A/704/CD (committee draft). Models of Integrated Circuits for EMI Behavioral Simulation 47A/719/NP (new work proposal). This is a follow on to ICEM (ICEM is 62014-3). Some of this activity was moved from TC93 where IBIS used to reside. The documents are available for technical review from Bob. Bob mentioned that because of our related IBIS standard and actual involvement, we are the appropriate committee to review and comment on these documents. In fact, Ross Carlton of Freescale Semiconductor who participates in other related IEC committees has solicited from IBIS some comments and would be willing to convey our comments directly. Their ongoing activities include considering suggestions of merging the documents. Contact Bob Ross if interested in reviewing the material. Bob suggested that this be put on as a regular agenda item for occasional updates. Bob also announced a future EMC Compo 2005 in Munich Germany, November 28-20. They are in a call for paper state. Several of the people active in the IEC effort participate in this conference and also have participated in IBIS Summits. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.emccompo2005.org/ SUMMITS - DAC IBIS Summit, Tuesday, June 14, 2005, Anaheim, CA DAC will be held in Anaheim, California from June 13-17, 2005. The IBIS Summit meeting will be held in the Anaheim Marriot. John Angulo reported that he is still working on room arrangements. The first call for papers went out. Syed Huq reported that he has received four confirmed presentations. These include the IBIS chair report, one from Cisco and Mentor on VHDL-AMS and IBIS 4.1, a paper by Arpad Muranyi, and the OMC paper from Si2. The second call for papers needs to go out next week and include mention of the election of officers. - DesignCon East IBIS Summit DesignCon East will be held in Worcester, Massachusetts from September 19-21, 2005. September 19 will be the IBIS Summit. IBIS will be an associate sponsor. Bob Ross reported that plans are proceeding. No contract has been signed yet. The IEC will provide a meeting room in the DCU conference center. There is a teleconference bridge planned for the summit. This may have to be paid for by the IBIS committee and costs about $150-$200. Lunch is provided as part of the Monday keynote speaker lunch speech. Ian Dodd is coordinating the booth and can arrange for its transfer to Massachusetts as long as someone in Massachusetts can get it setup. Lance Wang is checking with his management about possible sponsorship. Sponsorship opportunities for DAC and DesignCon East are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. Bob Ross mentioned the potential of an IBIS Summit meeting in China. He thinks we should work with DesignCon who has interest in a DesignCon Asia a couple of years out. Bob mentioned this idea to Huawei, and they said they are very interested in hosting an IBIS Summit near Hong Kong. This has potential to be a very large summit and could even be hosted as early as December of this year. Bob is forming a team to help coordinate and invited everyone to participate. Lance Wang is already working with Bob on this. S2IBIS3 STATUS Bob Ross reported no new update. The executable has been uploaded. S2IBIS3 V1.0 executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm IBIS VERSION 4.1 PARSER STATUS Bob Ross proposed raising the parser price to $2500 for new parser license purchases to help fund future parser work. Lynne Green said that the last time the parser was put out for bid, it was only priced for parser development, with no extra money for fixes and enhancements. Raising the price would help pay for this type of work. Any further purchasers of 4.x parsers would pay this increased price. There will be a vote on this at the next meeting. ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Bob Ross proposed deferring the ICM reading until the next meeting due to lack of focus on the subject. Bob Ross summarized that Kelly Green had developed the ICM parser under a GNU public license. This license is not conducive to use of the source code by EDA software companies. Kelly has turned over the license to the IBIS committee. It has been proposed to offer a paid license option of $1000. There was a call for vote on the paid license option. The vote passed unanimously with the following vote tally: Cadence - yes Cisco - yes Intel - yes Marvell - yes Mentor Graphics - yes Micron - yes Siemens - yes Sigrity - yes Teraspeed - yes IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Mike Labonte reported that review of the specification was completed in the last phone teleconference. There are several action items to look at the golden parser checks and how they relate to the IBIS specification. The next call will discuss a parser BUG document to highlight potential bugs in the parser. They are also adding information on [Pin Mapping] to the document. There are 63 people on the mailing list and about 5 people on each phone conference. The next meeting is June 7. The link to the quality committee checklist is at: http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/quality_wip/ IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green reported that two models came in for review. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Syed Huq reported that minutes have been released. Bob Ross reported that discussion at the last meeting was on several of the BIRDs that are going to be discussed next. Arpad Muranyi received some feedback on the cookbook and has a few items to correct. The next meeting is May 19. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES None to report. BIRD94.1: CLARIFICATIONS ON [DIFF PIN] PARAMETERS Arpad Muranyi has not heard any comments since the last meeting. He is waiting for any comments for or against so that a vote can be scheduled. Bob Ross mentioned that he would like to review the BIRD further, and this will hopefully be discussed more in the next meeting. BIRD95.5: POWER INTEGRITY ANALYSIS USING IBIS Syed Huq opened up discussion. Lance Wang sent an email to the reflector expressing concern on Cadence's part that they have some issues with technical content of the BIRD and would like to postpone the vote. Lance said that the BIRD focuses on one buffer, but in SSN and PI analysis, there needs to be a tie in to multiple buffers. Crowbar current is very load dependent and can not be accurately estimated in an SSN simulation. Lance was worried that BIRD95.5 in its current format may not correctly model a larger system. He requested that Syed Huq share the SPICE circuits originally used in development of the BIRD. Syed responded that Cisco wants to understand all concerns. Syed will run simulations on any publicly available model so that it can be shared amongst all the participants. Arpad said he had the circuits available in his class, and these could be used for the simulation work. It was mentioned that the buffer used needs to have a good amount of pre-driver current. Also, there are many publicly available encrypted HSPICE models available, however there was concern with using these models unless they are specifically donated for the purpose. Zhiping Yang asked Lance to comment on what might be incomplete about BIRD95.5. Lance reiterated his concern on looking at only one buffer, when if you hook multiple buffers together that would include power distribution network parasitics, the [Composite Current] table would no longer be accurate. Arpad Muranyi questioned whether BIRD97 on Gate Modulation Effect should scale not only the I-V curves but also the I-t curves of BIRD95.5. Syed agreed on postponing vote on the BIRD and will look at how the BIRD scales with multiple buffers. Cadence has agreed to share their simulations and findings with the committee as well as any proposal of improving this BIRD. BIRD97: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Arpad Muranyi has received more information from Katja Koller on modifying the gate modulation equation. Bob Ross mentioned that this is a scaling coefficient. Donald Telian asked Arpad if he had considered including a table as opposed to variables in an equation, as this allows more flexibility. Arpad said that this would simplify the model creator's work. IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS No report. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS No report. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held June 3, 2005 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. The meeting will be chaired by Syed Huq. A vote is scheduled on the IBIS parser license fee increase proposal. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
