ELECTION RESULTS AND 2005-2006 OFFICERS Michael Mirmak announced that the officers have not changed from the previous year. The officers are: IBIS Chair: Michael Mirmak Vice Chair: Syed Huq Secretary: Randy Wolff Librarian: Lance Wang Webmaster: Syed Huq Postmaster: Bob Ross Michael expressed thanks to the officers for their work over the last year. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Michael Mirmak reported on the IEEE P1076.1 presentation at DAC. This presentation was a result of Arpad Muranyi's presentation at the DATE conference. The goal of Michael's presentation was to alert the AMS working groups that IBIS is using their languages in the new IBIS specifications. These presentations have fostered good communications between IBIS and the AMS working groups. See the "Meetings" link: http://www.eda.org/vhdl-ams/ Bob Ross discussed some pending standards under consideration by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) under the technical committee TC47. Each of these standards have links back to IBIS. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.iec.ch The two standards are: IEC62404 I/O Interface Model for Integrated Circuits (IMIC) as 47A/704/CD (committee draft). This is a competing standard with IBIS and is an enhancement to spice languages. Models of Integrated Circuits for EMI Behavioral Simulation 47A/719/NP (new work proposal). This is a follow on to ICEM (ICEM is 62014-3). Some of this activity was moved from TC93 where IBIS used to reside. The documents are available for technical review from Bob. Bob mentioned that because of our related IBIS standard and actual involvement, we are the appropriate committee to review and comment on these documents. Bob Ross mentioned a Workshop on Electromagnetic Compatibility and Signal Integrity that is being held in Bangkok, Thailand July 18-22, 2005. The workshop is conducted by some people active in the Signal Propagation on Interconnects (SPI) and EPEP conferences and as a joint European/Asian activity on EMC/SI to help improve university courses in Thailand. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.aunp-emctraining.polito.it/events/seminar.asp Lynne Green mentioned that a speaker from the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) gave an update at the DAC IBIS Summit on how their initiative aimed at improving silicon modeling is related to IBIS. EIA/ANSI APPROVAL ACTIVITIES Randy Wolff reported that he has inquired from the GEIA on the status of IBIS 3.2 reballoting for ANSI approval. The GEIA has so far not responded as to when the public review period associated with ANSI approval will be complete. S2IBIS3 STATUS No new update. S2IBIS3 V1.0 executables can be downloaded from: http://www.ece.ncsu.edu/erl/ibis/s2ibis3/s2ibis3.htm ICM SPECIFICATION AND PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak opened up the third and final official formal reading and comment period. Some minor editorial changes such as spelling and date changes have been made to the specification since the last review. No new comments were made. A vote will be scheduled for the next meeting for release to the GEIA as approved and open for release for comment. Bob Ross asked about adding in the unit Siemens as a base unit for conductance in the specification. This was discussed and approved for addition to the specification. SUMMITS - DAC IBIS Summit, Tuesday, June 14, 2005, Anaheim, CA Michael Mirmak summarized the Summit. There were 31 people representing 17 organizations in attendance. Presentation materials with the exception of the minutes are online. There was a heavy concentration on power delivery issues, but other topics included ICM and IBIS linking, a library proposal, I-V curve usage, and a call for book reviewers. Michael expressed thanks to co-sponsors Cadence and Mentor and everyone else that helped out. Bob Ross mentioned that he would like to see ad-hoc presentations titled without the ad-hoc reference when posted online for searching purposes. Lynne Green mentioned that one book reviewer came forward following her presentation at the summit, and she encouraged others to help out. - DesignCon East IBIS Summit DesignCon East will be held in Worcester, Massachusetts from September 19-21, 2005. September 19 will be the IBIS Summit. IBIS will be an associate sponsor. Bob Ross reported that plans are proceeding. Michael Mirmak will take care of the contract signing soon. The IEC will provide a meeting room in the DCU conference center. There is a teleconference bridge planned for the summit. This will be paid for by the IBIS committee and costs about $140. Lunch is provided as part of the Monday keynote speaker lunch speech. Cadence/Sisoft are co-sponsoring the event. Ian Dodd is coordinating the booth and will arrange for its transfer to Massachusetts. Local setup of the booth needs to be coordinated. - Asian IBIS Summit Bob Ross mentioned that very preliminary planning has begun. Plans are focusing on Shenzhen, China near Hong Kong, tentatively in early December. Many active Chinese and US based companies are there. It looks to be a large meeting, maybe up to 200 people. Sponsorship is planned from Huawei and Cadence as well as others. There are many financial logistics issues to work out. Sponsorship opportunities for DesignCon East are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross confirmed that July 12 is the next meeting. The last meeting was June 7. Eckhard Lenski mentioned that [Pin Mapping] was being talked about. The link to the quality committee checklist is at: http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/quality_wip/ IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green reported that one model came in. She recommended several changes to fix problems. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that there were meetings of both committees yesterday. The time of the meeting was changed to Thursday mornings. There were discussions of BIRD99, BIRD94, and a very brief discussion of BIRD95. Members also discussed a proposal for linking of IBIS and ICM specifications. The Cookbook was briefly discussed. The last section on splitting C_comp was added by Arpad. It is very close to being posted for review. Michael would like to see it reviewed and approved shortly for release. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES A discussion ensued on licensing activity. Michael Mirmak reported that official documents particularly for ICM check are being drawn up. The license of the private version of the ICMCHK software was released to the IBIS Committee from Kelly Green. Bob Ross felt that the documents had too many signature requirements for the GEIA. BIRD99: AMS LANGUAGE VERSIONS Arpad Muranyi introduced BIRD99. The BIRD attempts to lift an exact version number from being mentioned in the IBIS specification regarding AMS languages. The version number is removed and replaced with a statement that the latest version should be supported. This is so that the latest features of the AMS languages will automatically be available for use by IBIS model writers. Arpad mentioned that Mentor had expressed concern with the BIRD, so he would like to start a discussion on the IBIS reflector. Ian Dodd said that he supported having a specific version in the specification, otherwise the model user would have to check with the software vendors to see what AMS version is supported. He felt this would make the specification more consistent. Bob Ross mentioned that there was never any intent to support "later" versions of SPICE. The fixed baseline in the specification was chosen as a common public base-line since most vendors have adopted unique syntaxes beyond that baseline. The discussion is planned to continue on the reflector and will be cross-posted to other reflectors. BIRD94.1: CLARIFICATIONS ON [DIFF PIN] PARAMETERS Arpad Muranyi reported that Bob Ross sent Arpad some comments. Bob mentioned that different differential switching values were originally in the specification to indicate differences between drive and receive modes. Arpad is planning to make some changes to the BIRD now. Arpad understood that Vdiff is for the receiver input threshold parameter only, however it appears that it could be used to indicate a differential Vmeas value for flight time measurements of an output. The language will need to be cleaned up, and this will be discussed offline. The vote will be postponed. BIRD95.5: POWER INTEGRITY ANALYSIS USING IBIS Syed Huq reported on events at the IBIS summit at DAC. Cadence expressed concern over modeling SSO simulations with BIRD95.5. Zhiping Yang presented information on this type of simulation at the summit. Syed has not seen any requests for changes to the BIRD recently. Bob Ross expressed that the focus of BIRD95.5 seems to be on SSN simulations. He also summarized other concerns that came up with relation to the ground bounce simulation presentation given by Sigrity. Syed asked how to proceed from this point. Ian Dodd suggested contacting Cadence and asking them to present a schedule for addressing their concerns. Michael Mirmak took the AR to contact Ken Willis at Cadence. BIRD97.2: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Discussion deferred. BIRD98: GATE MODULATION EFFECT (TABLE FORMAT) No discussion due to time constraints. IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS No update. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS No update. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held July 15, 2005 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
