CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, or ICM 1.1 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak reported that we are still 31 members strong. He has received a ledger from the GEIA showing that we are currently $2000 behind, but we are receiving a parser payment of $1000 shortly. There is very little change from the last report. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the October 7, 2005 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. The minutes were approved without change. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Michael Mirmak reported for Syed Huq that the tools page on eigroup.org currently does not list the cookbook version 4.0. This change is in progress. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that everything is normal. Michael Mirmak mentioned seeing a lot of SPAM email bounces coming mostly from one email address. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE Michael Mirmak that a set of updated pages were received from Lance Wang and updated today. Bob Ross noted some links broken on the new page. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS John Angulo mentioned that he has found a new BUG related to IBISCHK4 to discuss. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES None. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS There continue to be two pending standards under consideration by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) under the technical committee TC47. Each of these standards have links back to IBIS. We are the appropriate committee to review and comment on these documents. The documents are available for technical review from Bob Ross. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.iec.ch The two standards are: IEC62404 I/O Interface Model for Integrated Circuits (IMIC) as 47A/704/CD (committee draft). This is a competing standard with IBIS and is an enhancement to spice languages. Models of Integrated Circuits for EMI Behavioral Simulation 47A/719/NP (new work proposal). This is a follow on to ICEM (ICEM is 62014-3). Bob Ross mentioned that IEC TC47/SC47A held some working group meetings in Austin, Texas at the Freescale Semiconductor facility on October 17-19 for WG9 and October 20-21 for WG2. These meetings included IMIC and ICEM advances and had international participation. Bob Ross expects to get a report shortly on the meetings. Bob also said that EMC Compo 2005 (5th International Workshop on Electromagnetic Compatibility of Integrated Circuits) is being held in Munich, Germany on November 28-30, 2005. Modeling topics include topics of interest to the IBIS community. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.emccompo2005.org/ EIA/ANSI APPROVAL ACTIVITIES Randy Wolff reported that he has been unable to get any updates from GEIA on the status of the ICM 1.1 EIA balloting. The extended comment period ended October 26, so official word on approval of the ballot should be received shortly. Also, ICM 1.1 should be automatically submitted for ANSI approval. SUMMITS - Asian IBIS Summit December 6, 2005 is the official date of the Summit. It will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Shenzhen, China near Hong Kong. The steering committee is headed by Jiang Xiang Zhong of Huawei. The financial sponsors include Sigrity, Huawei, Cadence, Mentor, and SiSoft. Bob Ross reported that planning is ahead of schedule. The program is fully packed with 13 papers now. The committee is planning on a high quality booklet of presentations for all participants as well as gift bags. Bob needs closure on sponsorship payments. Also, they are still working on getting a feature speaker from China. About 30 people are signed up at this point. November 25 is the deadline for signing up. - DesignCon The DesignCon Summit will be held February 6, 2006 in Santa Clara, California. The DesignCon organizers have already sent documents related to co-sponsorship agreements. One presenter related to power delivery from Intel is already scheduled. Deadlines for papers and sign-ups have not been established, but January 31 would be appropriate. Bob Ross asked about shipping the booth to the conference. Ian Dodd said that he currently has possession of the booth. Michael Mirmak mentioned that member companies should make sure they have a logo for display in the booth. Ian will inventory the current logos. Sponsorship opportunities for the Asian IBIS Summit and DesignCon are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Mike Labonte reported that they conducted a voting process to pick essential checks to submit as parser BUGs at the last meeting. Mike said that they found that the parser does check package RLC values for a maximum range, but the committee would like to see these values reduced. He also asked if anyone has discussed required ordering for min, typ and max values so that min is always the smallest value. The quality committee may look at introducing a BIRD to clarify the specification with relation to ordering of min, typ and max values. The link to the quality committee checklist is at: http://www.ibis-information.org/quality_wip/ IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green reported that a model was received and is being reviewed. Michael Mirmak asked how customer reviews of the review committee have been. Lynne responded that most reviews have been favorable. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that meetings have happened every week for these committees. No work has been done with the cookbook. The last futures discussion was about the future plans of the IBIS specification. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ MACROMODELING LIBRARY COMMITTEE Arpad Muranyi reported that the Verilog-A version of the library is mostly finished, and they are working on the VHDL-AMS library now. They may need to write a BIRD to handle definitions of A-to-D and D-to-A elements for use with the AMS languages. Mike Labonte mentioned that he has tested some of the library, and it is working well. Arpad said that if anyone wants to test out the library, the Verilog-A and VHDL-AMS libraries are available. Committee material can be found at the following url: http://www.ibis-information.org/macromodel_wip/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES None. BIRD97.2: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Arpad Muranyi reported that he has no update at this time. Arpad is waiting for some feedback from Antonio Girardi before starting further discussion. Michael Mirmak requested that a discussion on the technical questions occur at the next meeting. Arpad mentioned that the presentation he gave in a previous meeting detailed how the BIRDs are currently not taking into account AC switching effects related to gate modulation. BIRD98: GATE MODULATION EFFECT (TABLE FORMAT) See BIRD97.2 for discussion related to BIRD98. OPTIONS FOR NEXT IBIS VERSION DISCUSSION Michael Mirmak reported that the committee needs to decide how to handle future versions of the specification. There are many BIRDs that are ready for inclusion in the next version of the specification. There are a few of the approved BIRDs that would require parser updates, the rest are simply clarifications to the specification. There are also several pending BIRDs that are in development, and these need to be considered as well. The question becomes, does the next version become 4.2 or 5.0? The recommendation from the futures committee is to release a 4.2 version of the specification that adds only clarification BIRDs and submit this version for EIA/ANSI standardization. Then, a version 5.0 would be released to include all BIRDs that require parser updates. This would allow the committee to raise enough funds to pay for the parser development. The downside of this is that a 5.0 version of the specification will take a long time to complete, so some BIRDs will not be implemented in the spec for awhile. Any new BIRDs that will only be clarification BIRDs should be submitted soon if they are to be added to a 4.2 version of the spec. Ian Dodd mentioned that he would like to see the addition of another keyword in version 4.2 that would allow Verilog-A as a multi-lingual option. He thinks this would allow a higher adoption rate of AMS models in the industry. A BIRD may be submitted for this. Bob mentioned that Figure 12 in the 4.2 work in progress specification shows linkages with ICM models that are not currently defined. A couple lines of text could be added to the document to clarify that the Figure 12 shows linkages not currently supported. Michael would like to have further discussion on the specific BIRDs for IBIS 4.2 in the next meeting so that everyone has an opportunity to look at his presentation. Michael's presentation given at the futures meeting can be found at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ibis-future-plans.ppt IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS John Angulo raised the issue of whether a BUG report should be logged against ibischk4 for its treatment of I-V tables inappropriate to the [Model] type. Specifically, there should be no [Pullup] table, or at least no non-zero currents for the [Pullup] table in a model using open drain/sink topology, and there should be no non-zero [Pulldown] table in a model using open source topology. If an inappropriate I-V table is present (with non-zero currents), ibischk4 issues a warning message. However, it goes on to check I-V/V-t endpoint agreement using all the model's I-V tables. Bob Ross suggested that the parser should report an error when the model type is inconsistent with the data tables provided in the model. John plans to write up a BUG report to submit. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS Michael Mirmak mentioned that the only BUG filed on ICMCHK1 was for a text block overflow related to a debug mode of the parser, and this was closed out in March. Michael believes that he has found another test case that fails with the fix. Lynne Green asked about the importance of the BUG given that the BUG is related to a debug mode. Michael responded that this is a problem for anyone who has purchased the ICMCHK1 code. Michael will file a BUG report. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held November 18, 2005 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-1046 michael.mirmak@intel.com Senior Analog Engineer, Intel Corporation FM6-45 1900 Prairie City Rd.
