MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that everything is running normally. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No update. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Bob Ross mentioned that the eigroup.org server is being upgraded on Tuesday. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES None. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS There continue to be two pending standards under consideration by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) under the technical committee TC47. Each of these standards have links back to IBIS. We are the appropriate committee to review and comment on these documents. The documents are available for technical review from Bob Ross. More information can be found at the following url: http://www.iec.ch The two standards are: IEC62404 I/O Interface Model for Integrated Circuits (IMIC) as 47A/704/CD (committee draft). This is a competing standard with IBIS and is an enhancement to spice languages. Models of Integrated Circuits for EMI Behavioral Simulation 47A/719/NP (new work proposal). This is a follow on to ICEM (ICEM is 62014-3). EIA/ANSI APPROVAL ACTIVITIES Randy Wolff reported that he has no new update on ANSI approval of the ICM 1.1 specification. He last heard that the close date for ANSI review is June 9, 2006. Michael Mirmak asked him to find out why the ANSI review is taking so long. Randy also mentioned that changes are being made to the Cookbook version 4, and these should be finished before we consider any voting on turning the Cookbook version 4 into a GEIA engineering bulletin. SUMMITS - DesignCon The DesignCon Summit will be held Thursday February 9, 2006 in Santa Clara, California. Fred Balistreri is handling the registration. Cisco will be a primary sponsor of the event and is hosting the lunch. Applied Simulation Technology is a secondary sponsor. Bob Ross reported that he estimates 25 sign-ups at this point. Fred Balistreri reported 12 official sign-ups so far. He encouraged everyone to sign up soon. The fourth announcement was sent out yesterday. Michael Mirmak is awaiting details on the room assignment. Ian Dodd is handling the booth. There are eight presentations so far. There are presentations related to AMS and IBIS 4.1 modeling, macromodeling, and other technical topics. There will be time for ad hoc topics as well. Papers should be submitted by Wednesday, February 1 to accommodate making copies for distribution. - DATE The summit will be Friday, March 10, 2006 in Munich, Germany. Registration is being handled by Ralf Bruening. Bob Ross encouraged participation from US companies. There was no update on planned presentations. Sponsorship opportunities for DesignCon and DATE are still available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Bob Ross reported that a meeting was held January 10. They reviewed the Quality list and are still re-grouping with Bob Haller leaving as the chair. Michael Mirmak requested that the new chair officially notify him so that he can report to GEIA. The next meeting is February 14. The link to the quality committee checklist is at: http://www.ibis-information.org/quality_wip/ IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE No update. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that meetings have been held every Thursday. The last meeting was held yesterday. Discussion centered around closing IBIS 4.2 and agreeing on which BIRDs will go into IBIS 4.2 and which will go into IBIS 5.0. In the previous meeting, Lynne Green reported on fixes to the Cookbook that need to be made. Lynne took the AR to revise the document for review at a future meeting. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/futures/ The Cookbook version 4 is stored at: http://www.ibis-information.org/ibis/cookbook/cookbook-v4.pdf MACROMODELING LIBRARY COMMITTEE Arpad Muranyi reported that he announced the completion of the first VHDL-AMS macromodel library yesterday. He plans to make a technical introduction of this at the DesignCon Summit. He also mentioned that an NCSU student wrote a Perl script that reads parameters from IBIS models to aid in creation of the macromodels. This is for the Verilog-(A)MS library only currently. Mike Labonte mentioned that there are many files that need to be posted to the website as well. Committee material can be found at the following url: http://www.ibis-information.org/macromodel_wip/ NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES None. BIRD97.2: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Arpad Muranyi reported that he has had some email discussions between himself and Katja Koller. Arpad plans to devote more time to this BIRD now that the macromodel library work is finishing. BIRD98: GATE MODULATION EFFECT (TABLE FORMAT) See BIRD97.2 for discussion related to BIRD98. BIRD100.2: ALLOW PURE ANALOG *-AMS MODELS Ian Dodd summarized that the BIRD deals with AMS extensions of IBIS. Currently, you can use full AMS models, but control signals to the models must be digital. Full support for AMS is not standard yet, so this BIRD provides a stepping stone by allowing support for the analog portions of VERILOG-AMS and VHDL-AMS, designated Verilog-A(MS) and VHDL-A(MS). It specifies how to use analog control signals in IBIS. Arpad Muranyi reported that changes in BIRD100.2 were incremental. Minor technical changes were made. It was found that BIRD93.1 was affected by the BIRD, so minor changes were made to accommodate this. The BIRD received considerable review in the Futures meeting. There was a call for vote on approval of the BIRD text for inclusion in the next version of the IBIS specification. The vote passed with the following vote tally: APSIM - yes Cadence - abstain Cisco - yes Intel - yes Mentor - yes Micron - yes Siemens - yes Teraspeed - yes Texas Instruments - yes BIRD102: FILE NAME LIMIT EXTENSION Michael Mirmak introduced the BIRD. He had received several requests from companies for extending the limit on file names to greater than 20 characters. This BIRD will extend the limit to 40 characters plus the extension. Bob Ross mentioned that this character extension must be limited for the case in EBD files where you must have the component name, reference designator and file name on the same line and not go over 120 characters. Changing this file name length can affect the sizes of dialog boxes in EDA software as well. Aubrey Sparkman mentioned that we should be compliant with the lowest common denominator, i.e. the operating system with the most restrictive file name length limit. Michael will conduct a survey to see what the limitations are. The BIRD will be scheduled for a vote at the next meeting. IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS Randy Wolff gave an overview of BUG92. It is related to non-monotonic warnings in [Submodel] I-V curves. Specifically, separation of On-die Termination (ODT) characteristics from normal [POWER Clamp] and [GND Clamp] characteristics leads to non-monotonic regions in the ODT I-V curves. The recombination of the curves results in a monotonic curve, however the parser does not combine [Submodel] curves with the [Model] curves to check for overall monotonicity. Arpad Muranyi and Bob Ross agreed that it could be very complicated for the parser to handle all the combinations of driving, non-driving and other [Submodel]s. Bob Ross suggested fixing the non-monotonic regions in the curves to eliminate the warnings, as these occur in areas of little interest to the simulation. Mike Labonte felt that checking of only the static tables would be appropriate, and these cases are limited. Bob expressed concern with cases where you have multiple [Submodel]s, and then all the combinations must be checked. It does appear straightforward to check only static cases once the logical checking combinations are determined. The BUG will be categorized as Open, Moderate and Medium with detailed resolution to be determined. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS Michael Mirmak mentioned that one potential solution to ICMBUG2 is to remove documentation of using very, very verbose mode. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Summit will be held February 9, 2006 at DesignCon. No telephone bridge is available. The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held February 17, 2006 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. A vote is scheduled for BIRD102. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-3788 michael.mirmak@intel.com Server Platform Technical Marketing Engineer, Intel Corporation FM5-79 1900 Prairie City Rd.
