NOTE: "AR" = Action Required. --------------------------------MINUTES----------------------------------- INTRODUCTIONS AND MEETING QUORUM Nilesh Kamdar from Agilent introduced himself. He is an R&D manager in the EESoft division. He is new to signal integrity and IBIS, but he is very interested in learning more about it. CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or ICM 1.1 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak reported that we have received some updates from the GEIA. Based upon internal tally, we have 24 paid members at this time and have received one ICM parser payment. There is also an IBIS parser purchase in process. There are other member payments still being cleared. This makes income of about $19,000 with a budget of $23,000. Bob Ross mentioned that the ICM parser payment was supposed to be credited to last year's income, but it has been credited as 2006 income. Also, Bob mentioned that he expects to see another 5-7 memberships yet to come in. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the June 2, 2006 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. Lance Wang mentioned that KAW has been renamed as Cybernet Systems. It was also noted that Zhiping Yang's name should be in brackets, as he is no longer with Apple. The minutes were approved with the noted changes. PRESS AND WEB PAGE UPDATES Syed Huq reported that several links have been changed to vhdl.org to fix issues with the eda.org domain name. He also updated the subcommittee page. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that the eda.org mailing address is not working, and we should send a note to the mailing lists to use the eda-stds.org domain name instead. Michael Mirmak took the AR to send out an email after the meeting. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No update. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS None. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES None. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS Bob Ross mentioned two upcoming conferences as described in previous meeting minutes. The IEEE EMC conference is Aug 14-18 in Portland, Oregon. There may be peripheral interest in IBIS. More information on the conference can be found at the following url: http://www.emc2006.org/ The Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging (EPEP) conference is October 23-25, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona. There are sometimes presentations related to IBIS at this conference. More information on the conference can be found at the following url: http://www.epep.org/ Bob mentioned that the IEEE 1076.1 group has passed the 1076.1 specification in committee and is beginning the balloting process. This relates to the VHDL language. The balloting is open through July. EIA/ANSI APPROVAL ACTIVITIES Randy Wolff reported that he sent the IBIS 4.2 specification to the GEIA to begin the GEIA/ANSI balloting process. The GEIA sent out the official ballots by email to member company main contacts on Wednesday, June 14. The balloting officially began on June 15 and closes on July 21. The specification is labeled as EIA-656-B by the GEIA. Randy took the AR to check into the voting next week and see if any responses have come in with comments that need to be responded to. SUMMITS - DAC DAC will be held July 24-28, 2006 in San Francisco. The Summit is planned for July 25. Michael Mirmak reported that arrangements have been made for the meeting room. The meeting will be in the Argent Hotel in the City room. Mentor Graphics has agreed to co-sponsor the meeting. A second "call for papers" will be sent out soon. Lunch arrangements are still being made. Michael also mentioned that the officer's election will be held at this meeting. There will be a presentation on encryption from John Fields. Bob Ross mentioned that we should include a list in upcoming minutes of officer nominations. Syed Huq mentioned that he has 5 or 6 signups so far. There is a full day of presentations planned. - Japan Summit Michael Mirmak mentioned that there has been much talk on sponsorship to make sure there is wide participation across the industry. Bob Ross reported that both October 24 and October 31 are being looked at as possible dates, but they are leaning towards October 31 to not conflict with the EPEP conference. They are looking at holding the meeting at the JEITA building, and approximating attendance of 50 people. Bob is working on estimating expenses to figure out what sponsorship is required. - China Summit The China summit date is finalized as Friday, October 27 in Shanghai. The location is being finalized, hopefully near People's Park. Bob Ross has requested that some people in China go to prospective hotels and check out the rooms to find one appropriate for up to 200 people. The first announcement is planned to go out August 1. - Other Events Michael Mirmak reported that there is a possibility of IBIS participation at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), held September 26-28 in San Francisco. Booth space is a possibility and also participation in a breakfast. Michael will have more information on this at the next meeting. Sponsorship opportunities for DAC and the Asian IBIS summits are available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. IBIS QUALITY COMMITTEE Mike Labonte reported that the committee is currently reviewing the specification. Roy Leventhal has put together a nice list of all the checks to help in this process. They are not planning on a presentation for DAC. Their meeting last Tuesday was cancelled, but there is one coming up next Tuesday. The link to the quality committee checklist is at: http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/quality_wip/ IBIS MODEL REVIEW COMMITTEE Lynne Green had a model submitted recently, and it was reviewed. She mentioned that she will be doing an IBIS class in the Bay area in early August, and the class would be appropriate for people creating models that have limited experience and would normally need help from the IBIS Model Review committee. FUTURES AND COOKBOOK COMMITTEES Michael Mirmak reported that at the last meeting, they reviewed changes to the Cookbook proposed by Lynne Green. There is also some background work on ICM /IBIS links ongoing. A discussion on handling of the Touchstone format is planned. Recent committee material is stored at: http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/futures/ The Cookbook version 4 is stored at: http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/cookbook/cookbook-v4.pdf MACROMODELING LIBRARY COMMITTEE Arpad Muranyi reported that the meeting last Tuesday had excellent attendance. They discussed a proposal from Cadence on API modeling for advanced buffers. Mike Labonte mentioned that the committee is talking about three different modeling techniques, AMS language models with encryption, the API approach that lets you model advanced buffers with some protection, and macromodeling, mostly with AMS. Arpad has been working on a library update to cleanup initialization problems, and will be releasing this soon. Committee material can be found at the following url: http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/macromodel_wip/ IBIS 4.2 PARSER STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that Jon Powell has volunteered to finish up work on the parser. This is close to being finished and is being reviewed before an official release soon. NEW ISSUES None. BIRD97.2: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Arpad Muranyi reported that he has not made any more progress on the BIRD in the last three weeks. He is hoping for more feedback on his latest findings and does plan to make a presentation at the DAC IBIS summit. BIRD98: GATE MODULATION EFFECT (TABLE FORMAT) See BIRD97.2 for discussion related to BIRD98. IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that at least three BUGs are being addressed in the new parser for IBIS 4.2, but most BUG fixes are being deferred to a later version of IBISCHK. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that the ongoing discussions about Touchstone files in ICM will determine if any changes will happen to ICM that will require a parser update. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held July 14, 2006 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. The next IBIS summit will be held July 25, 2006 at the DAC Conference. No telephone bridge is currently planned. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-3788 michael.mirmak@intel.com Server Platform Technical Marketing Engineer, Intel Corporation FM5-79 1900 Prairie City Rd.
