CALL FOR PATENTS Michael Mirmak called for any patents or pending patents related to the IBIS Version 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or ICM 1.1 specifications. No patents were declared. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND TREASURER'S REPORT Michael Mirmak reported that we had a recent correction to the membership list due to problems with recording Panasonic's payment. Panasonic is now listed as an official member. We are at 31 members. There were two ICM parser purchases and one IBIS parser purchase this year. We are about $4000 in the black, so we need to figure out a way to use that money. One additional renewing membership this year is also expected. There are some small items to settle related to the recent summits. REVIEW OF MINUTES AND ARS Michael Mirmak reviewed the minutes of the October 6, 2006 IBIS Open Forum teleconference. The minutes were approved without changes. WEB PAGE UPDATES Michael Mirmak reported for Syed Huq that both the events page and the roster page have been updated. MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATION Bob Ross reported that ieee.org accounts were bouncing due to IEEE changing their aliasing, and confusing the Stanford-based server. This issue has been fixed. Bob also noticed that all Cadence and Synopsys e-mail addresses occasionally bounced since the ieee.org problem occurred, but he has not observed any recent problems. NEW MODELS AVAILABLE, LIBRARY UPDATE No update. PRESS UPDATE Bob Ross reported that Roy Leventhal and Lynne Green recently released a new book entitled "Semiconductor Modeling: For Simulation Signal, Power and Electromagnetic Integrity." This book has a lot of IBIS information with particular attention to IBIS quality. More information about the book can be found at the following link: http://www.springer.com/west/home/?SGWID=4-40109-22-77145088-0 Bob also mentioned that Siemens has a public website with IBIS information on it. It includes hints about making good models. The link for the site is: http://ibis.siemens.com/home Bob also had a discussion with EETimes editor Rick Merritt about reporting on the Asian IBIS Summit in China. Bob may submit a 2-3 paragraph write-up. Michael Mirmak requested that the Committee review the article. MISCELLANY/ANNOUNCEMENTS Bob Ross mentioned that our main GEIA contact Marina Spivey has retired. Phyllis Call is the new contact. Michael Mirmak mentioned recently looking into working with the newly formed IEEE Council on EDA (CEDA). CEDA works with all EDA related teams within IEEE to coordinate between them. They are currently trying to put together a reflector and beginning discussions on the current IEEE standardization process and how it might be improved. OPENS FOR NEW ISSUES A new issue to be discussed is how to handle our budget surplus. INTERNATIONAL/EXTERNAL PROGRESS There was no update available on the Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging (EPEP) conference held last month. EIA/ANSI APPROVAL ACTIVITIES Randy Wolff had no update on when the IBIS 4.2 standard will complete the ANSI approval process. Michael Mirmak asked randy to check the ANSI bulletin for status information. Randy took the AR to do this. SUMMITS - China Summit Review Michael Mirmak gave a review of the China summit, held Friday, October 27 in Shanghai at the Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World. Huawei was the primary sponsor, with Ansoft, Cadence Design Systems, Intel, Mentor Graphics, Signal Integrity Software (SiSoft), Sigrity and Synopsys as co-sponsors. 172 people from 52 organizations attended. There was a full program covering a wide array of topics. A Shanghai municipal government official gave an opening talk. The committee is already looking into next year's planning. Bob Ross mentioned being caught off guard by the vendor tables not being setup in the morning. Overall it was very successful. Next year, they may look into organizing smaller technical sessions. - Japan Summit Review Michael Mirmak gave a review of the Japan summit, held Tuesday, October 31 in Tokyo at the JEITA offices. JEITA was the primary sponsor, with ATE Service Corp. (Sigrity), Cadence Design Systems, Cybernet Systems, Mentor Graphics, and Synopsys co-sponsoring the event. 38 people from 20 organizations attended. Many were from JEITA. The program was similar to the China Summit, but specific questions were discussed related to IBIS quality, power delivery, and ways to improve education in IBIS. There is talk of a spring time Japan Summit next year. - DesignCon 2007 We are currently scheduled to hold the DesignCon summit on Thurday, February 1, 2007 from 8:00am to 5:00pm. We will send out the first announcement soon. We will have booth space for the conference. Ian Dodd will coordinate the booth transfer to the conference. Ian requested having more items available at the booth, perhaps printing out some pictures of the Asian IBIS summits. Cisco is officially sponsoring the event. Bob Ross mentioned that December 15 is the date for early, discounted signup for the conference. - DATE Date is April 16-20 with the summit scheduled for Friday from 9:00am-2:00pm. DATE is being held in Nice, France. Ralf Bruening is handling the logistical arrangements again. So far at least two companies will be co-sponsors. Sponsorship opportunities for the DesignCon and DATE summits are available, with sponsors receiving free mentions in the minutes, agenda, and other announcements. Contact the IBIS Board for further details. IBIS QUALITY TASK GROUP Mike Labonte reported that activity is picking up. The group is meeting almost weekly, and the distribution list is about 70 email addresses now. There is interest in reviewing the Quality Specification document, and in parallel, there is great interest in correlation. The link to the quality task group checklist is at: http://www.eda-stds.org/ibis/quality_wip/ IBIS MODEL REVIEW TASK GROUP No update. ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY MODELING TASK GROUP Michael Mirmak hosted the last meeting, and the discussion was of C. Kumar's presentation on how to get API into the IBIS specification. Cadence agreed to begin writing a BIRD. There was discussion on methodology of channel analysis. There was also discussion of how spice could be better supported through the specification without breaking any standards. Arpad Muranyi noticed that IBIS lists parameters for external models, but these are only lists of names without any values. This may be troublesome for useability, and it may be better to list parameter values in the IBIS model. Walter Katz took the AR to look into parameter passing for spice. This should be extended to all external models. Michael Mirmak mentioned the need to perhaps mix some parameters with values and some parameters without values assigned. Ian Dodd mentioned wanting to see a range specified for parameters to facilitate creation of a GUI. The discussion will be continued in the ATM meeting. Task group material can be found at: http://www.eda-stds.org/ibis/macromodel_wip/ AD HOC TASK GROUPS (INTERCONNECT) Michael Mirmak reported that the group met October 17. Discussion focused on Touchstone referencing. There is a lot more to discuss. NEW ISSUES None. BIRD97.2: GATE MODULATION EFFECT Arpad Muranyi had no new report. He has not heard any new updates from Antonio Gerardi. Arpad will recontact Antonio. There was some discussion on whether this effect was worth modeling in legacy IBIS. It appears that a compromise solution may improve accuracy of the modeling, but it will not fully model the effect. Bob Ross mentioned that the process for modeling this effect also needs to be very repeatable and not too difficult to do, otherwise it isn't worth the effort to model. BIRD98: GATE MODULATION EFFECT (TABLE FORMAT) See BIRD97.2 for discussion related to BIRD98. IBISCHK4 BUG STATUS No update. ICMCHK1 BUG STATUS Michael Mirmak reported that there is a new sub-version of the parser. Kelly Green fixed all the open BUGs. Michael plans to release an announcement shortly. Bob Ross mentioned that we need to find an HP UNIX machine to compile the code on. Lance Wang took the AR to help with this. NEW TECHNICAL ISSUES None. OPEN ISSUES Michael Mirmak discussed options for using the $4000 extra income that the committee has this year. Some options include improvements to the website by buying website creation software, a parser contract for BUG fixes, setting aside money for the next China summit, and purchasing a projector and screen or producing items for the conference booth. Bob Ross suggested that any unspent money could be moved into an account already set up for China Summit finances. It was discussed to contact one of the previous parser developers about doing some BUG fixes for a fixed sum in a short timeframe. Will ask Syed Huq for a price quote for the web development software. Final decisions will need to be made at the next teleconference. NEXT MEETING The next IBIS Open Forum teleconference will be held December 8, 2006 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM US Pacific Time. ============================================================================ NOTES IBIS CHAIR: Michael Mirmak (916) 356-4261, Fax: (916) 377-3788 michael.mirmak@intel.com Server Platform Technical Marketing Engineer, Intel Corporation FM5-239 1900 Prairie City Rd.
