RE: [IBIS-Users] 5V tolerant pad

Just a clarification: a 5-volt tolerant I/O may not necessarily
use a 5V supply. There may not be a 5V supply, and thus, there
may not be an ESD diode to a 5V supply.

Frank

Garry,

You don't need to use the [Model Selector] for that. The 5V safe feature
usually comes from the clamp diode (and/or the ESD circuit) being connected
to 5V while the pullup is at 3.3 V. This can be modeled with the
[*** Reference] keywords which basically define which rail the IV curve
is connected to.

Answer is yes. Use the Model Selector switch. But do you need to?

I thought 5V tolerant meant that the input of a chip with 3.3Vcc would not
be damaged by a 5 volt signal.
