Subject: RE: [IBIS] BIRD85.1 - Slew Time Estimate Clarifications

John,

I read the BIRD and have a comment.

I am missing a statement on what to do with the Rload subparameter in
the case when the buffer doesn't fall into the category that can use the
Rload subparameter. In other words, reading your usage rules I do get
the idea that for new buffers we may need to use something other than
Rload to Vcc or GND when generating the [Ramp] values, but I don't know
whether I supposed to use Rload to describe this "different" load (which
would be quite impossible), or what am I supposed to do with it. As a
newbie, this usage rule keeps me hanging without an answer. I think you
should state that in these situations Rload must not be used to describe
the load, and explain that the reason for that is because the [Ramp] in
this, and only this case (when used with [External Model]) is not used
for modeling algorithms, only for initial estimates for time step.

Of course, the next question in my mind is: Are tools using this
keyword only for this purpose when not using it for modeling? I.e.
should we rather not say "for time step" but be more vague about what it
is used for?

Thanks,

All,

The enclosed BIRD85.1 is posted on behalf of John Angulo of Mentor
Graphics. It will be discussed at the November 14, 2003 IBIS Open Forum
teleconference.
