============================================================================== IBIS INTERCONNECT TASK GROUP Mailing list: ibis-interconnect@freelists.org ================================================================================ Attendees from May 7, 2025 Meeting (* means attended at least using audio) ANSYS Curtis Clark, Wei-hsing Huang, Juliano Mologni Arista Networks Jim Antonellis Broadcom James Church Intel Corp. Michael Mirmak*, Xiaoning Ye Keysight Technologies Ming Yan Marvell Steve Parker MathWorks Walter Katz* Micron Technology Justin Butterfield Siemens EDA Weston Beal, Arpad Muranyi*, Randy Wolff* Simberian Yuriy Shlepnev ST Microelectronics Aurora Sanna Synopsys Ted Mido, Edna Moreno University of Illinois Jose Schutt-Aine Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared. Michael reviewed the minutes of the April 30 meeting. Arpad Muranyi noted that there was an extra word in the sentence beginning with "Randy asked whether, for each of these, whether ...". In addition, Michael noted that the word "suggested" was misspelled. Arpad Muranyi moved to approve with corrections; Randy Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved without objection. Michael noted that he had a discussion with Pete Pupalaikis regarding his presentation on referencing and connections between different S-parameter networks; his presentation also discussed connections to SPICE networks and conversions between SPICE and network parameter data. Michael took the AR to contact Pete about presenting at the upcoming IBIS Summit. [AR] Michael stated that his notes from the previous meeting included an incomplete reference to an AR regarding "(pin name, signal name, designator name.signal name), as well as *.signal name. Michael took the AR to add text from pp. 391-392 of IBIS 7.2 for summary." Should he copy the IBIS text into the Port Mapping draft? Randy replied that the assignment was to make sure that the format is the same between the two documents, including shortcuts with asterisks. Michael asked if, for the Interconnect activity summary at the IBIS Summit, whether the team had a specific request of the participants. Review of the existing documents was mentioned. Michael took the AR to ask Steve Parker to update the Interconnect documents on the IBIS website. [AR] Arpad mentioned the issue of issuing SPIM as part of IBIS or as a separate specification. He asked whether this should be raised as a question during the summit. He noted that the most recent IBIS-ATM meeting included questions on SI/PI co-simulation; should this be supported in SPIM? He added that this would "send us back to the drawing board", as SPIM excludes anything that resembles a signal. No pads, buffers, or traces would be described. He asked whether industry is examining this as a serious option. Michael asked whether this would be better included in the IBIS-ATM Task Group update. Arpad replied that such an update had not been planned, but could be added. Walter Katz commented that he advocated discussion on SPIM being a separate specification, as IBIS is I/O-focused. Arpad added that co-simulation requires buffer information. Michael suggested this should be part of a discussion related to the ATM team's activities. Randy reviewed his changes to draft 13 of the port-mapping proposal. Many of his changes focused on clarifications to the examples. Inclusion of SPIM or PI features is still controversial for extensions and references. There was some discussion regarding Example 3 of the draft, focused on the context and meaning of Group and Reference. Arpad noted that Group can be used for positive voltage supply or ground (negative) references. Randy asked whether the keyword "Physical" was needed for Group declarations. Arpad replied that "Reference" was intended only for Physical connections. Michael noted that the next meeting time would conflict with the European IBIS Summit schedule, and that several regular Interconnect attendees would be at the Summit. Arpad moved to cancel the next meeting; Randy seconded. The motion was approved without objection. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 21, 2025.
