All,
When a User wants an EDA Tool to do an analysis using any models the User
does the following:
1. The User reads the Models Owner's Manual
2. The User understands the channel that this model is going to work
in
3. The User decides how to set up simulations based on the channels
operating conditions and the Models Owner's Manual.
4. The Model Owner's Manual needs to explain to the User what the
models can do, what its inputs are and what its outputs are. The model has
to explain to the User how to set the inputs to the model, and the model
has to explain to the User how to use the outputs of the model.
5. The User decides how he wants the outputs of the model to be
used.
In order for the User to be able to do this:
1. IBIS is responsible for setting a standard for Model Makers to
define the capabilities, inputs and outputs of their models.
2. The Model Maker is responsible defining the capabilities, inputs
and outputs of his model, and to do that according to the standard set by
IBIS. The Model Owner's Manual needs to explain to the User what the
models can do, what assumptions it is making about its operating
environment, what its inputs are and what its outputs are. The Model
Owner's Manual has to explain to the User how to set the inputs to the
model.
3. The EDA Tool is responsible for enabling the User to implement
how the User wants to do an analysis and how the user wants to use the
outputs of an analysis,.
This applies to AMI Models, IBIS Models, ISS Models, Verilog Models, VHDL
Models.
I do not know how it can be any other way.
