The meeting was attended by seven of the nine software simulation tool vendors who have announced support of IBIS modeling. The meeting was again fruitful in that we were able to: (1) close on the IBIS ASCII 1.0 hardcopy [Telian will make minor changes, and distribute electronic version at DAC], (2) formalized plans for a face-to-face Open Forum at DAC, and (3) collaborated on a plan to get the "Golden Parser" written by a software contractor. Other items were discussed, as noted below. Open Issues: Various issues were brought up during the meeting. I'll use this section to track those issues, and site when they'll most likely be addressed # | Description | Owner | On Agenda When? | Done 1 | New Keyword under pullup/pulldown | Powell | During V/I disc. on 5/7 | 5/7 2 | tri-state v/i curve | GD/JP | 5/21, Quad presents | 5/21 3 | Hierarchical model/file structures | Doyle | During V/I disc. on 5/7 | 5/7 4 | How is v/i and ramp data derived | Wong | During V/I disc. on 5/7 | 5/7 5 | IBIS 1.0 to stds committee? During this time, Cadence noted that CFI should be also considered as a standards body that we could work with. Cadence also mentioned that they would like today's meeting to cover a proposal faxed out by Jon Powell of Quad Design addressing enhanced ramp time measurement techniques. II. IBIS Simulation Tool Vendor Support/ IBIS Capable Update: Refer to spreadsheet "IBIS Simulation Tool Vendor Support." Telian pointed out that both Cadence Design Systems and Contec Microelectronics were both added to the list of companies that "Intend to Support IBIS" on 5/25/93. Companies that have demonstrated "IBIS Capability" include: Hyperlynx, IntuSoft, Meta- Software, MicroSim, and Quad Design. Both IEI and Quantic are re-simulating a couple configurations, due to confusion over what defines a "best" and "worst" driver model. Telian has clarified, and their waveforms are expected soon. Note also, a new column: "IBIS ASCII 1.0 Parser Ready." This is defined as "Company has software parser ready to read IBIS ASCII 1.0 files, and automatically create models." Each tool vendor should let Telian know when their 1.0 parser is ready. III. TEMPLATE.IBS 1.0 hardcopy final review: The group walked through the 0.9 version, keyword by keyword, and found the following minor issues. Telian will correct these, and distribute the final electronic version at DAC. 1. "Statement of Intent": a) Add paragraph on commitment to backward compatibility. b) Add the list of companies, names, and phone numbers of the parties contributing to 1.0. 2. [Model], sub-param "Model_type": Detail list of types available. Replace "Tristate" with "3state". 3. [Pin], "Usage Rules": Change: "...through 6, the default packaging value is used". To: "...through 6, the default packaging values must be used." 4. Add list of Open Forum Companies, Contact Names, and Phone Numbers. 5. Add statement on commitment to backward compatibility. With these changes, the 1.0 specification was approved. Off-line from the meeting, Telian's group also added the following further clarifications. Please check them over for any issues you might have. a) Keywords such as [POWER_clamp] are only "Required" in the [Model] if they exist in the device. For example, an input [Model] would not need to specify the [Ramp]. b) The derivation of V/I curves for bipolar devices would have temperatures opposite from the CMOS curves for min and max. c) Model_names must have an associated [Model] keyword, EXCEPT for the reserved model names POWER, GND, and NC. d) Temperatures called out in the last section are meant to be device junction temperatures. e) To simplify parsing and readability, instead of allowing the comment character to become literal when typed twice, we clarified that the [Comment char] keyword can be used at other places in the file to temporarily redefine the comment character, if desired. Congratulations everyone, and thank you for your contribution to the IBIS ASCII 1.0 file! There was also discussion at the meeting about a proposal faxed out by Jon Powell of Quad Design. This proposal detailed a measurement technique to enable model developers to quantify the phasing between output pull up/down transistors turning on and off. This feature will get rolled into the list of enhancements for the 2.0 revision. IV. DAC plans / logistics: The group finalized plans for DAC, they are: 1. The next meeting will be face-to-face, at DAC, on June 17, 1993, from 12 -2 pm. 2. Quad Design will host the meeting in their hospitality suite. Jon Powell will send out invitations to all for RSVP. 3. Attendance is limited to Open Forum contributors, or special guests (such as Charles Small to discuss EDN bulletin board...). 4. Quad will try to get the meeting on to the DAC schedule of events. The agenda for the June 17 meeting at DAC was agreed to be: 12:00 Welcome, Introductions Telian, all 12:10 Short recap of IBIS Open Forum's accomplishments Telian 12:15 6/4 Minutes review, BBS, Open time for new issues Telian 12:20 IBIS ASCII 1.0 ver1_0.ibs Electronic File Distribution and Update Telian 12:30 Golden Parser Update and Schedules Telian 12:40 IBIS Futures (items/schedules for 2.0, group participants...) Hobbs, all 1:50 Wrap-up, action items all V. Golden Parser Discussion: Agreement was reached to have all companies pay $500 for the creation of the "Golden Parser". Telian will send a fax to collect signatures from all Open Forum companies, arrange logistics with a third-party software contractor, and present plans at the DAC meeting. Two potential contractors are ready to bid on the job, and the selected contractor will invoice all ten companies directly. >>>> Update on Golden Parser, 6/11/93 <<<< All simulation vendors have confirmed, in writing, (exception: Meta-Software is still only a verbal confirmation) their commitment to help pay for the Golden Parser. As such, the contractor started the task on 6/9/93. His name, company, schedules, are: Name: Paul Munsey Company: PCware Address: 102 Duncan Way, Roseville, CA 95678 Phone: (916) 784-7821 (home number) Email: I'll forward to him, for now, so use don_a_telian@ccm.hf.intel.com Schedule: First complete copy of code delivered 7/2/93, then Two week Open Forum Member review period for comment 1-2 weeks to roll all the comments into final rev., delivered late July Feel free to forward any concerns you might have about the Golden Parser to Paul. >>>>>> <<<<<<<<< VI. IBIS Industry-wide Bulletin Board: Charles Hymowitz informed the group at the meeting (and followed up with Telian on 6/9) that the following IBIS bulletin boards are available, and already in use: Compuserve: It is ok for all companies to use the general CADD/CAM/CAE Vendor Forum on Compuserve for IBIS activity. To access this forum, use the "go" word and, when prompted, enter "CADDVEN" to go automatically there. When uploading files/information, there is a form that must be filled out. All vendors should be sure to specify "IBIS" as a keyword. This allows global searches within Compuserve for anything related to IBIS. Note that anything uploaded is delayed for 1 day for a virus check. Charles also noted that is will be possible to create a separate IBIS forum on Compuserve when the number of accesses and downloads reaches the correct level. EDN BBS. Charles Small at EDN has created an IBIS "SIG" on the EDN BBS. The BBS phone number is (617)558-4241, and typing "SS\IBIS" after login will take you to the IBIS area. All vendors are invited to use this BBS, as there is plenty of disk space. Uploads can occur by either: (1) sending a floppy to Charles Small (phone: (617)558-4556), or (2) following the upload procedure published under the "\SIG_INFO" area. Other Notes: Jon Powell is compiling a list of how to reach Open Forum participants through email. All participants are encouraged to send their email address to Jon at: jonp@qdt.com IBIS was noted in the following articles in the press: EDN May 27, 1993 pages 15, 110, 112.
